Chapter 81 Crumbling Wall
Chapter 81 Crumbling Wall
\[Gianna’s POV\]
I remain silent while Noel and Grant begin to bicker. It’s amusing honestly, but when Noel’s gaze comes to me, I realize that she has asked me something.
“Blink once if you want rescuing.” She says and Grant lets out a growl of warning. “I know how awful this man can be.”
“Can he?” I ask, eyeing Grant.
“Don’t listen to her.” He tells me. “And we should get going.”
“Yeah,” I respond, smiling. “We should.”
After seeing him be so normal, the wall that I couldn’t help but notice between us seemed to be slowly crumbling and with it so was my guard.
I was finding that I wouldn’t mind getting to know him a bit differently and if I was being honest, I wouldn’t mind being intimate again.
I could blame it on the pregnancy hormones, the sudden desire I feel for the man in front of me, but I know deep down they aren’t the reason.
I just want him.
I wanted to experience that night again with him and I wanted to get to know him on a level that was different than where we were now.
You’re so wishy-washy. I sigh inwardly. First you want to avoid him like the plague and now you’re wanting to get closer, but what could I say, peoples thoughts changed and mine was slowly changing.
“Thank you for examining me.” I continue now, turning my attention to Noel. “Would it be too much to ask that you prescribe a prenatal for me?”
“Not at all,” she smiles. “Is there anything else?”
“Well,” I begin, my cheeks flushing ever-so-slightly. “About that sex thing…”
I trail off, embarrassment moving through me, but this was part of the reason we came today, right? Well, part of the reason, but now that we knew the baby was fine and growing, this was the next thing that needed addressing.
“Ugh,” Noel shivers, shooting Grant a look of disgust. “You know you could do so much better, honey.”
“Maybe,” I agree and I bite back on the laugh that wants to escape from the look that Grant gives me. “But, since he is the father of my baby and my husband, I should at least give him a chance, right?”
Growing quiet, I turn my gaze to Grant and when our eyes lock I feel butterflies erupting in my stomach.
You’re screwed, Gianna. I tell myself. You can pretend that you are in control of your feelings, but that man has you dangling on a string.
“I suppose,” Noel grumbles. “But if he ever gives you issues, you know where to find me.”
“Thanks,” I smile. “So, about sex,” I continue realizing that she avoided the question. “Is it a thing for us right now?”
“It is,” Noel responds. “You’re almost out of your first trimester and the baby is growing perfectly. You can have sex, but you shouldn’t be too rough.” She continues, shooting Grant a look of warning. “Any freaky stuff is out of the question until she is in her second trimester, you hear me?”
“I hear,” Grant assures her. “Funny that you assume I enjoy things like that though.”
“Don’t try to play innocent.” Noel warns. “I know about your habits…”
“Habits,” I repeat. “What…”
“That’s enough,” Grant warns, wrapping his hand in mine. “We’re leaving.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Noel laughs. “I’ll see you soon, honey!”
“Y-yeah,” I manage as Grant gently pulls me and then we are moving, heading out of the exam room and then out of the doctor’s office altogether.
Only when we are outside does Grant stop and turn his gaze to mine and when I see the nervousness in it, I feel a bit of satisfaction.
“I’m not some freak.” He says, his voice earnest. “Don’t listen to what…”
“It’s fine,” I tell him, appreciating how much he wants me to believe him. “We’ve already been together once.” I remind him. “And I’ve never said that I was opposed to certain things.”
At my words, Grant’s eyes darken with desire and I can’t help but wonder what he is imagining.
“Should we hail a cab?” I suggest, wanting to get somewhere more private.
“No need.”
I watch as Grant pulls his phone from his pocket and after typing a few things, he pulls me toward the street where we wait until a car arrives for us.
“Sir,” the driver says after rolling down the window. “Please, get in.”
The ride to our loungings is a quiet one filled with tension so damn thick that it can be cut and when we arrive at our destination and are in the elevator, Grant is attacking.
Gasping, I don’t fight him as he pins me against the wall, his hand clutching my hips as his mouth claims mine, initiating a kiss that leaves me both breathless and dizzy.
“Gr-grant,” I whimper as one of his hands slides around to my ass so that he can squeeze. “What if…”
“No one is going to come in here.” He tells me and I pull back enough to take him in. “It’s a private elevator to our penthouse.” He explains and I am once again reminded that this man is rich.
I mean, I never forgot he was rich, but when he flaunts his money like this, it makes me feel slightly insignificant.
“What?” The man in question asks, not missing the shift in my demeanor. “Where’s your head?”
“Nowhere,” I lie, though I’m sure he can see right through me. “I was just soaking in the situation that I’ve gotten myself into.”
“And what situation is that?” Grant asks, eyeing me curiously.
“That I’m now the wife of a billionaire.” I say slowly while feeling like I’m reading lines from some TV drama, but it isn’t a drama, it is my new reality, and I can’t help but wonder if I’ll be able to survive this new identity.
“Don’t tell me you’re having regrets now.” Grant chuckles as the doors behind us slide open. “Because legally we are husband and wife and you’re carrying my child.”
“I know,” I say. “I’m not regretting.”
It isn’t a lie, but it isn’t the truth either. However, for now, it was the best answer that I could give.
