Chapter 80 A Torrent Of Emotions

Chapter 80 A Torrent Of Emotions
\[Gianna’s POV\]

I stare at the place that Noel is pointing out on the screen, watching as my baby’s heart beats rapidly.

How was it possible that something so miniscule and so random like a blinking spot could bring so many emotions to me? Especially when I was still so unsure about what exactly was happening. However, as I watch that small spot and a loud wooshing fills the room around us, I feel something in me shift.

It isn’t an unpleasant shift and it doesn’t leave me uneasy. Instead, it gives me hope and it makes me feel like even though my life is changing drastically, it isn’t going to be as scary as I thought because…I turn my gaze to the man beside me who is watching and listening intently and to my surprise, I can actually see a bit of excitement on his face.

“That’s our baby,” I murmur, daring a chance to see if maybe I was assuming the wrong things. “Isn’t it hard to believe?”

At my words, Grant shifts his gaze to me and when I see the torrent of emotions flashing through it, I feel like I can’t breathe.

What was that?

What the hell was that?

I had to be seeing things right?

But I realize that I want to believe that I wasn’t.

I want to believe that even if this relationship and this ridiculous marriage were starting off ass backwards, we could still maybe pull through together as a family.

Don’t think ridiculous things, Gianna. I hiss at myself, stopping the ridiculous notion that is threatening to come to me. There’s no way that will ever happen.

Grant made it clear from the start that he didn’t want emotions attached here and we both knew that things wouldn’t be easy.

Just play your part. I tell myself, pushing aside the emotions that want to come up. Play your part and when the time comes, make sure that you keep your baby.

“And we are done.” Noel claps, snapping me out of my head as the room grows quiet. “Do you have any questions for me?”

At her words, Grant opens his mouth, but Noel lets out a huff.

“A question that doesn’t involve intercourse.” She sighs. “Like me prescribing a prenatal. Any questions about the change that is about to take place in your body. Things like that.”

“Nothing like that.” I assure her.

For anything I wanted to know there was always google, but I could use the prenatal.

“How long do you expect to be staying here?” Noel continues. “Have you found an OB back home?”

“We haven’t gotten that far yet.” Grant responds. “But staying here might not be too bad. What do you think?”

“I’m not sure.” I admit.

Honestly, I knew what was waiting for us back home and even though I was more than aware that I needed to deal with it at some point.

And Grant’s job.

I couldn’t possibly make him stay here with me when we both still had work.

But what about his family?

What about that woman who his father claimed to be his fiance? What was her name again…Rachelle? Raileen? I couldn’t quite remember since I didn’t make it a habit of remembering the names of those who didn’t really matter to me.

“We can wait a week and enjoy the island.” Grant suggests when I don’t speak. “We should be able to come up with a decision by then.”

“What about work?”

The words are leaving my lips before I can stop them, but that truly was the most important thing.

According to Anthony, Grant just returned home and was in the process of taking over AandD Industries. I couldn’t possibly ask him to just drop all that and stay here with me.

But I’m his wife. I think and I immediately hate myself for thinking such a selfish thing.

You’re only his wife in name and that’s it.

“Anthony can handle things for a week.” Grant shrugs.

“He’s still in his honeymoon phase too.” Noel huffs, reminding me that we aren’t alone. “Are you really going to take his time away from his wife?”

“Are you suggesting that I take time from mine?” Grant challenges. “Anthony has been married longer, but we just got hitched.”

“Just…” Noel repeats, looking from me to Grant. “Like just now? Like today?”

“That’s right,” Grant smirks. “So, it is time for a honeymoon, isn’t it?”

“Sweetheart,” Noel says, quickly turning her attention to me and grabbing my hands. “Are you in trouble? Do you need save…UGH!”

She doesn’t get to finish her words before Grant is smacking her across the head and when she shoots him a glare, I feel a smile spread across my face.

I had to admit, it was nice seeing Grant act like this, because I was still trying to get a feel of what was the real him.

Was he that cold and calculating man who tried to force me into marriage, or was he actually this person that though they annoyed him, he still stuck around for those that mattered to him?

I guess as time passed I would slowly begin to learn who he was and until then, well, I guess I would just have to enjoy the ride.

“Let’s play it by ear.” I say now, deciding to just go with it. “We were supposed to be here a week for the shoot anyway.”

“You’re working?” Noel asks. “But you’re pregnant and…”

“And I still have obligations.” I finish for her. “It won’t hurt me or the child to strike a few poses.”

“Your boss is a cruel person to make you work in your condition.” She huffs and Grant smacks her again. “What?” She growls, turning another glare toward him. “What now?”

“I’m her boss,” Grant says and I can’t stop the laugh that escapes from the way Noel’s eyes widen.

“You…” Noel stammers. “You’re her boss…You’re her boss and you’re her step-uncle. Honey,” she continues, turning her gaze to me. “Do you have some type of fetish?”

“Not at all,” I sigh. “You could just say that fate is pretty damn twisted.”

And that me need to not lose a bet led me into a new stage in life that I never thought would exist.

“I’m writing you a notice for bedrest.” Noel announces, jumping up from her seat. “No work for you. Focus on resting and enjoying your honeymoon.”

“But that wouldn’t involve resting.” Grant points out and I feel my cheeks flush a ferocious pink.

“Ugh,” Noel grimaces, shooting him a look of disgust. “Maybe I should have her stay with me then.”

“Not a chance.” Grant announces, gently taking my hand and helping me into a sitting position. “She’s mine and I have no intention of sharing.”
