Chapter 209 New Peace
Chapter 209 New Peace
\[Lilah’s POV\]
For the next few days, I fall into a routine of visiting my mother with the twins. With each passing day, I can see the improvement in her condition and her demeanor and when the third day comes, she is actually able to sit up in bed. Of course, she can’t walk because of the loss of muscle from her long sleep, but to see her able to support herself in an upright position is more than enough for me.
On the fourth day, I’m released from the hospital along with the twins, but even then, I don’t want to go home because I want to stay with my mother. However, Collin wont’ allow that because he insists that I should be resting and recovering from my c-section somewhere comfortable and in the end, we return to the home that we were beginning to build together.
Sure, it isn’t our permanent home and we would eventually have to find somewhere to settle, it is still our place.
It is the home that we built our relationship in. The one where I grew our children and the thought of leaving it makes me a bit sad, but Collin keeps assuring me that our new place will soon harbor many memories.
And when two weeks post birth comes, he finds us the perfect place.
It is a small house just on the outskirts of the city with a large yard and a flower garden. It’s not too big and not too small, just the right size for us and our children.
Once things are settled with it, we move in together and I’m surprised to find that after a few days in it and after settling everything from furniture to decorations to rooms preparation, it is almost like we’ve lived there our whole lives. And, the best part about the place is the small office that Collin sets up for me while insisting that I should continue with my writing career.
Of course, the thought of doing that leaves me a little uneasy given everything that came from my previous writing career, but I know that life goes on and I couldn’t continue to live in the past, but that didn’t mean that I had to start it right away. I could take my time and start it up again when I felt ready.
For now, the thing that was most important to me was caring for my children and building my relationship with Collin, while caring for my mother as she continued to recuperate and eventually started physical therapy with Vincent by her side.
Along with spending time with my family, I also spent time with Rika who visited often.
Given all our time together, we grew quite close while we both waited for Jeremiah’s return, but it seemed like that may never happen.
With each passing day, week, and month, Jeremiah’s task overseas seemed to drag on because the company he was working with was taking their sweet time. Of course, I understood that you couldn’t rush business and things took time, I couldn’t stop the feeling that Jeremiah would never return and if he didn’t…I couldn’t imagine what would happen to Rika.
I understood that their relationship was one formed off of mutual benefit, but just the thought of her being engaged to someone else unnerved me. I hated that thought and I didn’t want that for the woman who had grown to be one of my favorite people.
However, Rika didn’t seem concerned with this possibility. It was like she didn’t even consider it which was amazing. In a way, I was a bit envious of Rika because of her confidence and her ability to keep pushing forward in hard times when I collapsed and wanted to give up when I was faced with them. I guess you could say that while Rika learned to live normally from me, I learned to live authentically through her.
And Collin, Collin also taught me a lot in our time together and he introduced me to feelings that I never thought I could feel, as did our children.
By the time six months post birth passed, I truly felt like I was a whole new woman and I had grown to enjoy and even appreciate the new peace that was brought to me because of all of those around me.
It was strange and if you asked me a year and a half prior if I ever thought I would be in this place, with these people, living this life, I would say no, but here I was.
Now, I enjoy my new peace with Collin and our babies, where my mother and Vincent exist since my mother was finally released from the hospital. And then with Rika who visits regularly and spoils the twins as much as she can.
It is a peaceful existence with peace, harmony, and a promise of a future filled with nothing but happiness. However, I know that we aren’t necessarily guaranteed that peace because certain things still hovered over us, but I somehow convinced myself to take this life of mine day by day with my head held high and my mind focused on the positive that the future held instead of the negative.
I focus on learning, growing, and waiting for the day that my world will truly be complete when Jeremiah returns and everyone that means the most to me surrounds me and brings me peace.
Until that day, I keep pushing forward, living my life as best I can, and I try my best to be the best mother, the best girlfriend, the best daughter, and most of all, the best friend that I can be. And one day, I will also become the best wife I can be since Collin and my mother’s divorce has finalized, allowing Collin and I to move forward with our own relationship that we work so hard to nurture.
It is only a matter of waiting for the day that Collin pops the question and I say the words that will bind us together forever.
