Chapter 208 From Now On

Chapter 208 From Now On
\[Lilah’s POV\]

Shock rushes through me as Greg’s words settle in and in the moment, I feel like maybe I’m dreaming.

How was it possible that not only were my babies officially in the world, but also that my mother would wake up on the day of their birth.

It’s a miracle.

That was the only way to describe what was happening.

It was a miracle, one that was blessed to me after my almost year of suffering and I could only thank the higher power for this.

“Collin,” I say now, drawing Collin’s gaze to me. “I want to see her. I want to go see her and I want to take the babies.”

Honestly, even if Greg said that my mother was awake, I wouldn’t be able to fully believe it until I saw her face. Saw her eyes that are so similar in color to my own open and alert.

“You need to be sewn up first.” Collin tells me. “And then after you need to go to recovery.”

“No,” I hiss. “I want to go see her right now. I need to see my mom.”

There was no way that I could just wait around somewhere while knowing that my mother was awake. I needed to see her. I needed to confirm with my own eyes that she was awake and well. Well, as well as she could be after being in a coma for so long.

“But…” Collin begins, but a huff escapes Vincent.

“We can make an exception this time.” He says and I feel a wave of relief rush through me. “But you should know that just because Donna is awake it doesn’t guarantee that she will be alert.”

“I understand.” I tell him. “I just want to see her and I want her to meet her grandchildren.”

I was prepared for whatever was waiting for me. I mean, anything was better than her lying in that bed unmoving with her eyes closed to the world.

“Please hurry.”

“I’m going as quickly as I can.” Vincent sighs, continuing his task. “Things like this can’t be rushed.”

And they couldn’t, but even then I couldn’t ignore my impatience as time seemed to drag on and by the time Vincent completes his task I feel like an eternity has passed.

“Here,” Collin murmurs once I’m free to go see my mother. “Let me help you into a wheelchair.”

“Yeah,” I nod as Collin wraps his arms around me and gently lifts.

I wrap my arms around his neck while he carries me out of the operating room and to where Greg waits with a wheelchair and once I’m seated in it, I look toward the room until Vincent and a nurse appear with my twins.

“Would you like to hold one?” Vincent asks as I eye the tiny babies. “Are you able?”

“I’m able.” I tell him and then hold up my arms.

Nodding, he passes me one of the twins and once it is in my arms and I finally get a good look at it’s tiny face, I feel so many emotions rush through me.

“It’s a girl,” Vincent tells me.

Since Collin and I wanted to be surprised, we never had the genders of our babies told to us, but now that they were out we could know.

“And the other?” I ask, looking to Collin who holds the other child.

“A boy,” Vincent beams. “Congratulations on your prince and princess.”

“Thank you,” I beam.

“Do you have names picked out?” Vincent continues as we start heading toward my mothers room. “Or do you need time to decide?”

“Nessa and Theo,” I announce as the names come to me. “Because they are our little miracles that brought about a miracle with their appearance in this world.”

“Nessa and Theo,” Collin repeats. “I like it. Welcome to the world little ones.”

At his words, I smile, but before I can get lost in the calm and contentment that is slowly taking me over, we arrive at my mother’s room and I brace myself for whatever I am met with within.

“It’s going to be okay,” Collin tells me. “She’s going to be okay.”

I nod and then suck in a breath as Vincent pushes me into the room and when I spot the woman lying on the bed, her face turned towards me, her eyes taking me in, I feel like I’m choking with emotion.

“Mom,” I whisper as she just stares at me. “Mom, it’s me.”

“Swee…” she breathes, but stops as the word clearly proves to be a bit too difficult.

“Yeah,” I sob, knowing that she recognizes me and that she is aware enough to understand what is happening. “I’m here and so are the babies.”

As I speak, Vincent pushes me closer so that I can show my mother Theo while Collin comes up beside me with Nessa.

“These are your grandchildren,” I tell her. “Aren’t they perfect?”

For a moment, my mother just stares at them, many emotions in her gaze and when I see tears starting to flow, I feel my own floodgate opening and before I can stop it, I’m crying along with her.

I don’t know how long we sit there crying together, but when the tears finally stop flowing, I feel like a lot of time has passed.

“How do you feel, mom?” I ask, still needing confirmation that she is okay. “Do you hurt anywhere? Do you need anything.”

“No,” my mother responds, her voice so weak. “I’m…okay…”

She doesn’t necessarily sound okay, but I have to believe that she is okay and that with time she will rebuild her strength and become the woman that I remember and even if she doesn’t, that’s fine too because the biggest thing was that she was here with me.

“Mom,” I say now as her gaze shifts to Theo. “This is your grandson Theo and that,” I continue nodding to Nessa. “This is your granddaughter Nessa. They’re absolutely perfect.”

“Theo and Nessa,” my mother murmurs, her gaze sparkling. “They’re perfect.”

They were and they were the biggest blessing that I could receive.

“They were just born.” I continue, breaking the silence that has fallen around us. “You woke up just in time.”

“Mmmm,” my mother murmurs and when her eyes start to flutter, I know that our time together is coming to an end.

“You should rest,” I tell my mother even though I feel a bit of fear that if she closes her eyes again she may never open them again. “You’ve been through a lot.”

“Mmmm,” my mother agrees as her eyes slowly close and when even breaths start to escape her, I just continue to take her in while Vincent, Greg, and Collin remain silent.

“Since she’s sleeping you should also try to rest and recuperate.” Collin finally says, touching my shoulder with his free hand. “We can bring you back to see Donna when she wakes up.”

“Yeah,” I sigh. “I guess you’re right.”

I fight the urge to refuse to leave my mother’s side, because I know that Collin is right and when I finally settle on believing that she will wake up again and when she does, we can catch up, I let Collin take me to my own room where I also fall into an exhausted sleep after having Theo removed from my embrace.
