Chapter 31 The Masked Nytharis
Chapter 31 The Masked Nytharis
Alaric’s POV
Everything looks so peaceful and the newlyweds seemed to be happy. Everything seemed to be perfect, almost too perfect. Then everything slowed down for me. I saw when two faceless nytharis stabbed both bride and groom then they disappeared into the wind leaving nothing but golden dust in their wake. More and more nytharis went down holding their stomachs or chest. Someone came behind me and stabbed the Queen, but before this masked nythari could escaped, I grabbed them by the collar which stunned them to say the least. When I turned them around to face me, the nythari looked at me blue eyes, same as Lira’s. Her eyes widened, but quickly regained her composure then gave me a quick slice to my arm.
Holding my bleeding arm, I needed to find Lilith and get out of here. I saw her purple hair before I saw the nythari before her appear then disappear within the blink of an eye. She hunched over holding her stomach, ever so slowly did she fall. I caught her before her body touched the ground. Shit, this was bad. I didn’t know what to do or where to go, not with Lilith in this state. That’s when the Queen knealt at my side and said, “Come Alaric and bring Lilith. Quickly for we don’t have much time”. She seemed to somehow stopped her bleeding.
I picked up Lilith and started walking behind the Queen. “Quickly Amari, Neric, get in here”, she quickly said as she beckon the newlyweds to cover over wherever we were. The Queen led us into a secret room that was hidden behind a curtain. Now that we had a second away from the chaos, I noticed that Amari and Neric seemed to have stopped their bleeding as well, which was strange but nonetheless l needed them to save Lilith. Being just conjoined for the rest of their life seemed to angered someone to attack their royal wedding.
Holding Lilith in my arms is the only thing that is keeping me grounded. The Queen quickly came over to me and went straight to work. “Alaric I need you to hold her hand, for she will be on high alert", then looked at her and mumbled quietly, “you will not die in this kingdom my dear”. The Queen put her hands over Lilith’s wound and started to speak in what must be her native language. A red glow emerged from under the Queen’s hand which intensified as the Queen spoke. Then Lilith gasped and sat up quickly holding on to my hand very tightly.
“Lilith, it’s ok. You’re safe here with us”. Lilith looked bewildered but still ready to fight with a face of determination. Once she noticed me, she calmed down and took in her surroundings.
“Wait, how are you still here. You were stabbed!”, she exclaimed as she pointed towards Amari. “And your majesty, I saw you were stabbed too! How is this even possible? Am I dreaming?”, I saw her go down a spiral as she was holding her head.
I grabbed her shoulders, turned towards me and whispered as loudly as I can to make a point without provoking any more bloodshed from our faceless friends, “Lilith, you have to be quiet. We don’t know if they are still out there. Right now we are safe right and she”, I nodded towards the Queen, “just saved you. We need miracles before they run out on us”.
I saw the realization hit her and that’s when I knew the captain regained her train of thought. She nodded and got up. “You majesty, please don’t get mad for I’m about to ruin this beautiful attire you gave to me”, she said to the Queen before flying out of the room.
She seemed to be dancing or more like weaving through the swords and daggers that were coming towards her. Her black, scaly wings moved with her, wrapping around her body acting as a shield against all weapons directing towards her as she picked up one nythari at a time. I know she couldn’t fight what she couldn’t see for the sanders kept dissolving into sand whenever she came close.
She came back with three nytharis, placed them on the floor and said to me in a rush tone, “I’m going to bring every nythari that I can see out, then you can sent the place ablaze”. She left without me warning her that Lira could be here, but protecting the Queen was more objective at this very moment.
Bringing back the last servant she could find, I hesitated to set fire but we had no time to lose. Fire sprung from my fingertips setting everything ablaze. I could hear the screams from the masked nytharis as the fire overpowered their ability to disappear into the sand. In between flames from the fire, I saw two blue eyes before dissolving itself into the darkness. The scorching heat from the fire came to a dying flame once I closed my hand into a fist calling the fire to come back to me.
Everyone seemed to be in pain, as th Queen, Amari and Neric tended to the wounded. Lilith has fast healing abilities but she didn’t regain consciousness until the Queen healed her. Walking through the burnt corpses, so many questions that were swimming in my head had to be left unanswered for the moment, for I found a body, a live one.
