Chapter 30 The Wedding

Chapter 30 The Wedding

Alaric’s outfit finally came, and while mine was black and purple, his was red and black. Distinctively similar and yet it has different colors.

Getting ready for this formal event was exciting for I never been to a wedding, or even had these types of garments to wear. While Alaric was changing, Lira, as the servant girl came to call herself, said that it’s typical for men to wear sherwani to weddings. Alaric came out of the bathroom wearing his sherwani and pants, I felt little butterflies in my heart as he was walking towards the mirror. Lira put a flower pin in my hair while leaving my natural waves fall free over my shoulders.

“You look beautiful Violet”, Alaric said once Lira left us alone. I looked down at myself, holding the edges of my skirt, slowly swaying my hips seeing the beads shimmering under the natural light. He came up to me, put his hand under my chin lifting my head up to see his yellow red eyes. Looking into those eyes, I knew I was safe wherever I was with Alaric. He kissed me softly on the lips and whispered, “Let’s go Violet before things escalate making us late”. I felt my face go hot instantly, but thankfully Alaric didn’t notice for he was already opening the door for me.

Following Lira, who was waiting for us outside our room, through the underground passageway to the Sun Chamber. Feeling the walls with their polished stones under my hands while the aurelite crystals lighting our way. I’ve only read about these crystals, and now that I see them for the first time, I was not disappointed for the aurelite casted a soft light to the passageway making this small journey feel like walking through ancient history.

I heard music coming down the hallway which meant we were coming close to the Sun Chamber. “Will you be joining us Lira?”, it would be a shame if she came all this way just for her not to join us.

“No Princess. This type of events aren’t my type of events I like to attend.

I nodded and asked her, “where did you get your blue eyes?”. She seems to be the only nythari in this place to have blue eyes. Not even the Queen with royal blood has blue eyes.

She smiled and said, “My father, a merchant by the sea met a sea creature. They fell in love, and thus I was born”.

I wanted I know more, but we arrived at the chamber. The walls were polished stone with sands coming out of holes in the walls, almost like a waterfall made out of sand. There were people seated in the center of the room, with an empty space going down the seated people. Towards the front of the room, sat a podium where I’m guessing will stand today’s bride and groom. On top of the podium was a red spherical  ball that seems to be floating on midair. Seemed to be the only light in the room, but still did the job of lighting this entire chamber. I was so entranced by this spherical object, that I didn’t noticed that Alaric was nudging me forward so we can take a seat where the Queen mentioning us to sit, next to her which I was very surprised.

“Lilith, my dear. You look gorgeous. And Alaric handsome as ever”, we bowed as she said this. “So glad you came. Come come. Sit next to me. Watch the magic”.

We saw three nythari males come to the podium, all wearing tan sherwani and wide pants underneath. Then a tall broad nythari male came to stand in front the podium. He was wearing a red sherwani with wide red pants underneath. He was slightly tan, almost like Alaric shade, with curly brown hair and kind eyes. They were also brown, meaning he must be from the Mujari Empire.

The Queen leaned over to me and whispered into my ear, “That’s Neric, he’s a sailor. My hopeless romantic daughter saw him while visiting the docks to talk to the merchants. I, of course did not approve of this relationship for I saw no future for them. Then my daughter got sick from the rain from escaping to see him. I would see him coming every night to take care of her. Right as the sun was rising, I stopped him and asked what was he doing with my daughter. He said he taking care of her since it was his fault that she got sick. I saw how tired and worn his features looked but still he came. From that moment on, I respected him for he put my daughter above all else”.  Why was the Queen telling me this story, I’ll never know.

Just then, the light from the sphere dimmed and the aurelite crystals that seemed to appear out of nowhere, lit the pathway in the middle of the seated guests. Soft music was playing from a geetar from the corner of the room. The first nythari female to walk down this aisle wore a simple skirt and top like my attire, but hers was tan. Two more nythari females paved the way for the bride to walk across the aisle. Her dress was beautiful. Skirt and a really short top, but it was red. She had brown drawings on her hand and across her forearms. She has bracelets and necklaces that adorned her neck and wrist. She had a big nose ring hoop that connected to beads surrounding her head. In the middle section of her head, was another trail of beads coming down to forehead where a golden looking jewelry hung from the beads. She looked so gorgeous in her wedding dress, which I supposed this was it. Walking down the aisle, she walked towards me which confused me, but then the Queen got up which only made me feel foolish. The bride hugged the Queen and whispered small words to each other which I couldn’t hear.

She continued walking towards the podium, and the poor groom was tearing up slightly, but since I was in the front I could see the tear streaked cheeks on him.

The nythari male in the middle seemed to be adjoining the couple in which he began to speak, “We are gathered here today to join two young nytharis who found love through in the mist of these sand lands and now their love will be for filled”, he paused before continuing, “Under the eyes of our majesty, our ancestors before us, and the sun above us, see forth of this joining today. Do you promise to love each through sand and storm that might tear you apart?”.

The couple said yes together while looking at each other with heartfelt smiles. “Then by the laws of the Mujari Empire and the force of the wind, I bind you for life”. The spherical sphere that was floating in the air started to glow a bright red when the couples sealed the kiss. Then everyone stood and started clapping.

Then I started to notice the air around me got thicker and full of sand. That’s when everything went wrong. Both bride and groom were bleeding from their stomach. Looking behind me, the Queen seemed to be in pain, holding her stomach. Everything was happening so fast, I was trying to look for Alaric but that’s when I felt a deep pain in my stomach.
