Siege

Siege
Aria's POV

Elena's blood was still warm on my hands when the next wave of gunfire began.
"Move!" Marco shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from his mother's body.
I wanted to stay with her, to shut her eyes properly, but bullets were chewing up the stone walls around us. Vincent's men were pouring into the basement from three different openings.
"This way!" Luca called out, leading us toward a secret passage behind the wine racks.
But Chen Wei stepped into our path, his gun trained on me.
"I don't think so," he said quietly. "Vincent wants the girl alive."
Dmitri moved like lightning, catching Chen Wei before he could fire. They crashed into the wine shelves, bottles bursting around them as they fought.
"Go!" Dmitri yelled, striking a brutal punch to Chen Wei's jaw.
We ran through the tight passage, emergency lights casting crazy shadows on the walls. Behind us, I could hear more explosions as Vincent's assault increased.
"How many men does he have?" I gasped, trying to keep up.
"Too many," Marco answered grimly. "But we have advantages. This is our land."
The tunnel led to the main house's ground floor. Through the broken windows, I could see muzzle flashes lighting up the night like deadly fireworks.
"Status report," Marco barked into his radio.
"North wall is breached," came the crackling reply. "We've lost the garage. Tony's team is pinned down in the east wing."
"Casualties?"
"Eight dead, maybe more. They've got military-grade guns, boss."
Marco's face went stone-cold. These weren't just his employees dying - they were family friends, guys who'd watched him grow up.
"We need to get you out of here," he said to me.
"No." I picked up a fallen guard's gun, checking the clip like Kai had taught me. "I'm not running anymore."
"Aria, this isn't a game," Luca warned. "These are professional soldiers."
"And I'm a Castellano," I answered, surprised by the steel in my own voice. "My family built this place. I won't let Vincent tear it down."
Kai appeared from the stairs, blood streaking his face. "Second floor is clear, but they're regrouping for another push."
"Where's Dmitri?" Marco asked.
"Still fighting Chen Wei in the basement. It's... not going well."
Another blast shook the house. Through the smoke, I could see Vincent's men moving across the courtyard.
"They're trying to surround us," I noticed.
"Let them come," Marco said, his gray eyes hard as winter. "This house has survived three family wars. It'll survive Vincent Torrino."
But I could see the doubt in his face. We were outnumbered at least ten to one.
That's when I remembered something Elena had told me during our first meeting. "The danger room. Does it still have the emergency radio system?"
"Yes, but-"
"I can call the other families. Call for help."
"The alliances are broken," Luca said. "Why would they come?"
"Because I'm going to give them something Vincent can't. Unity instead of fear."
Marco stared at me for a long moment, then nodded. "Do it. Kai, get her to the panic room. Luca and I will hold them off."
"I'm not leaving you," I said instantly.
"You're not leaving us," Marco amended. "You're saving us. All of us."
More gunfire burst from the courtyard. Vincent's words echoed through a bullhorn: "Send out the girl, and the rest of you can live!"
"Like hell," Dmitri's voice came from behind us. He emerged from the basement passage, battered but living. "Chen Wei won't be bothering anyone anymore."
"Is he-?" I started.
"Dead," Dmitri confirmed simply. "One less traitor to worry about."
Kai led me toward the panic room while the others took defensive positions. The room was small but equipped with everything needed to survive a siege - food, water, medical supplies, and most importantly, communication devices.
"You have maybe ten minutes before they break through our defenses," Kai said, setting up the radio. "Make them count."
I took the microphone with shaking hands. This was it - my chance to show I was more than just a victim in this war.
"This is Aria Castellano," I broadcast on the emergency frequency all the families watched. "Vincent Torrino is hitting the Romano compound with military weapons. He's killed Elena Romano and declared war on the Commission itself."
Static filled the channels. Then, slowly, replies started coming in.
"This is Salvatore Benedetto. Vincent killed my nephew last month. What do you need?"
"Maria Santos here. That bastard burned down three of my clubs. Where do you want us?"
"Giuseppe Moretti. My boys are five minutes out."
One by one, the families answered. Not because they loved the Romanos, but because they hated Vincent more.
"Help is coming," I told Kai through the speaker.
"Good, because we're almost out of ammunition."
That's when the lights went out totally. Vincent had cut the main power.
In the darkness, I heard new sounds - helicopters overhead, heavy trucks surrounding the property. This wasn't just an attack anymore. It was a full military attack.
"Kai?" I called into the speaker. No answer.
I tried the radio, but it was dead. Vincent had jammed all contacts.
Through the escape room's reinforced window, I could see flashes of gunfire getting closer to the main house. My guys were being pushed back, step by step.
That's when I noticed something that made my blood freeze. The panic room's door was opening, even though I hadn't opened it.
Vincent Torrino walked inside, flanked by two soldiers.
"Hello, granddaughter," he said with that cold smile. "Ready to come home?"
But it wasn't Vincent that scared me most. It was the person behind him - my great-grandfather Antonio Castellano, very much alive and pointing a gun at my head.
"Time to claim your real inheritance," Antonio said. "The Castellano kingdom was never meant to be destroyed. It was meant to be reborn. Through you."
Vincent's smile widened. "Did you really think this was about revenge? This was about family succession. And you, my dear, are going to help us rebuild everything. Whether you want to or not."
