In the Eye of the Storm
In the Eye of the Storm
Wind slashed down their faces like daggers, as they held on to ropes that burned lines on their palms. The tempest of the storm seemed to grow ever worse, the Pirates running through the whipping winds to do their necessary tasks in order to get the ship moving back again. “How can we possibly even know if we’re following the correct path!” Zara shouted in the storm.
Seraphina scowled looking up at where the Captain stood his hands gripping the wheel with as much strength as he could. Rafe stood beside him consulting the map underneath the jacket he held over his head. Seraphina ran for them, slamming her body on every surface she could to keep from falling off the ship. She grabbed a long coil of rope, as she made her way up to where the Captain and Navigator stood.
“Where are we supposed to be!” Seraphina shouted as she clenched the top of the stair. Rafe looked at her startled before he realized her meaning.
“Southwest!” he shouted back.
Seraphina took a breath and then threw herself to the captain leaning on the wheel heavily. “I have an idea!” she screeched.
The Captain looked at her and then at the rope with a twinkle. “Please tell me it’s not what I think it is?” he asked.
“Storms from the air has never bothered me. Let me help you get to where you need to be so I can finally finish this hell of a mission.” Seraphina shouted through the maelstrom.
“Give me the rope!” he yelled back.
Seraphina handed one side of the rope stepping back two more steps uncoiling the rope as she did. “Rafe, when she transforms, tie the next knot of one of her legs!” Aariz demanded. He tightened the last knot, nodding to Seraphina who grinned widely before she transformed into her dragon form gently allowing the wind to raise her body slightly off the ground. Rafe carefully stepped towards her, tying a ships knot to one of her feet. They watched as she lifted off the ground flying for the sky, the ship slightly rising, as she adjusted where it needed to be sailing, before she widened her wings as far as she could, becoming another sail for the ship much to the Captain’s delight.
Zara and Nasir whooped, throwing a single hand in the air, as they traveled through the storm in this unique way before they could see land in the form of more dark caves before them. Seraphina pulled them into one of the caves lowering herself down, before transforming back, landing in the rooster’s nest, next to a very surprised Pirate. From there she yelled out directions for Aariz to follow much to his aggravation.
Zara watched as the darkness gave way to light, as they ended up in a cove of some sort, the ship lazily drifting in the water. Seraphina jumped out of the nest landing heavily beside Zara looking none the worse, after hauling an entire ship through a storm. “We will never speak of this again.” She murmured staring down Nasir and Zara who threw their hands up in the air.
“We saw nothing.” Zara stated her eyes wide.
“NOW WHERE THE HELL ARE WE?” Aariz shouted from where he stood by the wheel.
Seraphina scowled. “WHERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!”
She watched as Rafe hurriedly shoved the map Aariz’s way, marking where they were in relation to where they needed to be. “I’m hungry.”
Nasir raised his eyebrows. “What do Dragon’s eat?” he asked.
Seraphina rolled her eyes and jumped off the ship much to everyone’s surprise.
“DID WE JUST LOSE OUR DRAGON?” Aariz shouted.
Zara and Nasir looked down for a moment, before Seraphina rose up with a large tentacle in her mouth. The other pirates wisely went back to their tasks, their eyes scanning the still water warily. Most likely wondering what beastie below was now missing a tentacle.
Seraphina flew around the cove looking for where their next heading should be, her thoughts moving back to the missing link in her heart where she should’ve felt Shazir. She wondered if he was okay, and whether he had fallen to some monster in the dark realm. Her eyes caught a gleam further in the cove and she pulled her wings closer to her to give her speed as she moved towards the gleam, she hoped was the hidden Dragon horde.
