Chapter 30

Ethan's POV

I immediately feel a headache coming on as a stunning woman enters the room, dressed in a short flare gown and high heels.

"Hello, everyone," she says, flashing a charming smile as she takes a seat next to her son, who happens to be beside my dad.

Looks can truly be deceiving.

As pretty as she looks, she's a slut! Seducing my-

I glance over at Mum; as feared, she's turned completely white. Dad's body seethes with anger.

Even Uncle Benjamin and his wife are visibly shocked.

And Danielle, well, she's furious.

Shit. I can't just leave now.

"What are you two doing here?" I manage to breathe.

"What do you mean? We're here to celebrate," Violet, Charles' mum, chuckles as she pops a strawberry into her mouth.

Celebrate indeed. They're here to ruin my sister's night.

"You're not welcome here," I assert firmly.

"Why?!" Charles feigns surprise. "We're family. I'm your brother, I'm also Father's son-a part of this family."

"You are not my son!" Dad thunders angrily, slamming his fist on the table.

I feel Spitfire flinch beside me, and I intertwine our hands. 'Be calm, baby.'

"Ouch. That's harsh," Charles remarks, rubbing his chest and clicking his tongue.

"Both of you, out," I order sternly.

They can't just come here and ruin everyone's mood. No.

"I won't repeat myself."

Charles and his mother know very well what I'm capable of. They know not to mess with me.

"We were about to leave, anyway. We only came to congratulate Danielle, but it seems..." Violet sighs.

Charles stands up and throws another glance at Spitfire.

I've noticed-from the moment he walked in, he's been eyeing her.

He's courting death.

"Andrew, see you," Violet flutters her eyes at my father as she rises to her feet.

She did it on purpose, right in front of my mum, to spite her. It takes every ounce of restraint in me not to dash to her side and strangle her right now.

The two nuisances walk away from the dining table. But when Charles gets to the door, he stops and turns to look at Spitfire.

I ball my hands into fists. Plucking out his eyes wouldn't be a bad idea now, would it?

A few seconds later, Charles and his mother, that slut, head out of the house.

After they leave, several minutes pass without a word being spoken.

The room is completely silent.

Spitfire shifts uneasily on her feet. I forgot for a moment that we've been standing for a while now. And she's wearing heels...

"We'll also take our leave now." I announce.

With her hand in mine, I lead her outside, ignoring Anna's intense gaze.

If Anna knows what's best for her, she better stay the fuck away from me and Spitfire. Should she try anything funny…

I guide Spitfire into the car and instruct Carl to zoom off immediately.

The drive back home is silent, aside from the sound of the car engine.

So much for introducing my baby to my family. Well, looking on the bright side, Danielle likes her...

But still, I'm angry. Really angry.

We're almost reaching the mansion when I finally open my mouth to speak. "You aren't saying anything?" I glance at Spitfire.

She looks cute and charming in the dim light. And hot too. In that dress.

She glances over at me meekly. Surprisingly, there's no hint of anger in her eyes.

"What do you want me to say, Ethan Moore?" Her words come out as a whisper.

Hell. The way my name rolls off her tongue. My bulge springs up immediately in response.

Clicking my tongue, I suppress my hunger.

I flash Spitfire a smile, observing her. I know she must have a lot of questions on her mind-about Charles and his mother, about Anna-but she chooses to remain silent. And I'm thankful for that, as I'm not yet ready to tell her about the ugly scar in my family. However,

"About Anna, there's nothing between us. Ignore her," I clarify.

"You don't need to tell me that. Whether or not you have a thing going on with her is your business," she mumbles, and I scowl at her words.

Carl pulls up in the driveway, and Spitfire is the first person to step out of the vehicle.

Hell, she's mad at me. But she was okay a while ago... or so I thought.

I trail closely behind her as she marches upstairs and makes a beeline for her bedroom.

However, when she reaches the door, I quickly grab hold of her forearm and spin her around.

"What's wrong? Can I know my offense?" I rasp.

"Can you know your offense? Do you recall how many times I asked you where we were going before leaving the house? How could you have let me go to your sister's baby shower empty handed?! You didn't let me prepare beforehand and made me make a fool of myself in the presence of your family."

Speechless.

That's true. She did ask…

"I'm sorry, Spitfire. I'm sorry. It won't happen again, I promise." I pause and gently tuck the fallen strands of hair away from her face, "and you did not make a fool of yourself. You were you. You ARE you. You are so gorgeous tonight. Also, thank you for going with me." As I say all these, I'm gazing into her eyes.

For a split second, I think I see her eyes waver slightly.

"Will you like to come to my room and make babies with me?" However, right at this moment, she eyes me, turns around and enters her room, shutting the door hard in my face.

'Oh, okay. You don't.'

Sucking in my teeth, I head to my bedroom in defeat.

General POV

The next couple of days unfold quite peacefully in Ethan Moore's mansion-after he apologizes repeatedly for what happened on the night of his sister's baby shower.

Ethan goes to work in the morning, comes back at night, and spends a while teasing Elizabeth before going to bed.

With this routine, Elizabeth finds herself always eager and anxious, expecting his return from work every day.
