Chapter 34 - Mr Morgan's companion
Chapter 34 - Mr Morgan's companion
~Harriet~
“You–who are you?” Jackson yelled, not noticing the killing intent emanating from Kai. Even I was left speechless.
“Who gave you the right to lay a hand on the young miss?” Kai asked, making Jackson's laugh reverberate throughout the air.
“You never ceased to amaze me, Harriet. After ruining my reputation, you went ahead to find a sugar daddy for yourself. And I just say, he seems quite capable. Wait…or did you always have a sugar daddy even while we were dating?” He muttered, making me roll my eyes.
“I suggest you leave unless you want your face unrecognizable within seconds.” I threatened, feeling the anger that surged in my veins. I couldn't believe there was once a time when I loved this man. There was once a time I believed his every word even while he was screwing some blonde haired bimbo. I'd been really clueless.
Jackson, seeing Kai's threatening stance, cast one glance at me before huffing and walking out.
The attendant immediately apologized for having such a person around the premises before offering her services.
After picking out a custom dress that had been hidden in the storage room for a long time, Kai drove me back to the mansion.
By the time I arrived, the sun had disappeared completely, and the stars had begun to show themselves.
I freshened up, rubbing my skin with lavender oil before cladding myself in the red, fiery dress that matched my hair, and applying a little make up. I tied my hair up in a messy bun, using some pins before wearing the silver shoes I'd also gotten from the store.
Once I was done, I stared at myself in the mirror, a subtle smile coming to rest on my lips. I'd always been beautiful. It was only that I'd never gotten the treatment that Kylie had that made people believe I was an ugly duckling compared to her. Staring at my reflection in the mirror now, I couldn't help but see a hint of my mother. She was beautiful.
Shaking my head to get rid of the thoughts, I finally headed outside.
Rael stood by the sleek black car, his broad shoulders accentuated by the perfectly tailored tuxedo that clung to his powerful frame. The midnight-black fabric contrasted sharply against his pale, aristocratic skin, making him look like a shadow given life–dangerous and mesmerizing all at once.
His jawline was sharp enough to cut glass, his lips set in that usual firm, unreadable line. But it was his eyes–those piercing, icy depths that always seemed to see right through me. Right now, they were fixed on his phone, his long fingers scrolling absently, the silver cufflinks at his wrists glinting under the moonlight.
Every inch of him screamed power, control, and an effortless elegance that made my breath hitch. Fuck! had he always been this good looking? Or had I just ignored his beauty all this time?
And then, as if sensing my gaze, he looked up. Our eyes locked, making my heart skip a beat. I saw his eyes travel from my face, down to my chest, where a little cleavage could be seen, and down to the slit of my dress before resting on my face again. I thought he'd complement me, tell me how good the dress looked or how I looked, but his curt words jabbed me to reality.
“Let's go,”
Tsk…boring.
I followed as he entered the car, and soon, the chauffeur started it, driving into the night. The ride was quiet as I stared out the window at the scenery that faded as the car drove on. For some reason, having Rael just beside me while I was dressed so extravagantly made something stir in my chest. Was I nervous?
The car suddenly hit a pothole, jolting me. But nothing would have prepared me for the swerve that followed. I found myself in Rael's embrace the next minute, his arms wrapped around my waist to keep me in place.
“Sorry, Sir. There was a bad driver just now,” the Chauffeur apologized, his voice bringing me back to reality. I tore my gaze from Rael's perfect face, feeling the hotness that had come to rest on my cheeks.
I hadn't realized it before, but it suddenly looked as though he was younger than 32. If one saw him, they would guess he was not more than 25. Perhaps that had been the reason I didn't mind seducing him from the beginning.
Soon, the car drove into the vast compound of the Beaumont family mansion. The lights danced around, casting a glow on the entire surrounding. Rael pulled the car door open, stepping out. I'd just followed after him, caught off guard when he stretched out his hand for me to hold onto. Those lean fingers never looked so amazing. I took his hand, feeling him squeeze it a little before we entered the main hall.
It was large and could fit at least 500 people, yet, the people scattered around would not be more than 200, all consisting of various elite families in country M.
As though reality had stopped, the air had turned still as all eyes turned to us. Various surprised gazes, some marred with awe, and some with envy. Some directed at me, and some at Rael. Yet, he didn't care. He merely pulled me deeper into the hall, coming face to face with Mathew Beaumont–head of the Beaumont family.
“Mr Morgan,” the man nodded, making Rael's gaze move to him.
From the corner of my eyes, I had caught someone staring at me, and I turned to see Kylie's gaze on me.
The way her jaw dropped, the way her eyes flickered as though she was going to cry any minute. That look was the perfect revenge so far. My lips curled up.
“This must be Mr Morgan's companion,” Mr Beaumont’s voice cut through my thoughts, and I turned to him, offering my most perfect smile.
He stretched his hand, offering a handshake, and I took it.
“Nice to meet you, Miss–” he trailed.
“Harriet,”
