Chapter 33 - Assassin!
Chapter 33 - Assassin!
~Harriet~
“Are you asking me to be your companion?” I asked, a hint of playfulness playing on my lips, yet Rael gave me the look that said ‘what do you think?’
I rolled my eyes.
“I'll have Kai take you to get a dress,” he stated before leaving the room, not giving me an explanation on why he was here in the first place?
Had we done anything? I searched my body for something– anything that would give out what we'd been up to last night. I found nothing abnormal, making me heave a huge sigh of relief.
I stared at the closed door a bit more before heading to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I was done, I got prepared for school, heading off in an Uber just like yesterday. The man had once again driven off without picking me up.
Once I arrived at school, the students no longer looked surprised by my sudden change. In fact, they all gave me looks they'd never given me before –admiration?
I couldn't be bothered with them, yet how could I miss the hostile look Kylie gave me once I walked into class.
I walked over to my seat, seeing Lena already waiting for me.
“You really have changed, even myself can't believe it. I'd thought I was dreaming yesterday,” she said, and I could hint out the excitement woven into her voice.
I'd wanted to reply, but was suddenly shushed by Lena. She hinted me to turn, and when I did, Malfoy was standing in front of my desk. Took him long enough to pick on me, I thought, my gaze hostile.
“Hey, come with me to my family banquet tonight,” he said, as though I was some lackey he could just command. I snorted, while everyone's eyes widened in shock. I knew what they were thinking–Malfoy the bully was asking me to be his companion.
“Sorry, but I have a companion,” I said, dismissing him, but the latter slammed his palm on my desk.
“Do you not know who I am? You should be begging to have me as your companion. People like you can only dream of even entering the gates.” Malfoy sneered, making my lips lift into a slight smirk. Turns out the banquet was being hosted by the Beaumont family. What a small world it is, indeed.
I saw Malfoy’s face turn ugly, and he glared at me. I thought he would immediately threaten me like he used to? But he only kicked my desk before going to sit.
Soon, the teacher arrived, and the first class commenced. By the end of the class, Lena offered to treat me to a simple meal of hot pot in the food stall just across the university, and I could only agree.
We both walked into the food stall, the old man immediately recognizing us since we always had meals there.
We had just taken our seats when we heard a snicker.
“She thinks she's all big now because she had a makeover. Kylie, do you not have makeovers every weekend?” A voice so familiar muttered, and I didn't need to turn before I knew who it was–Livia. One of Kyle's lackeys.
She and Kylie had walked past the food stall, seemingly heading somewhere. I saw Kylie's fake hesitance as she said,
“It's good that my sister had a makeover. She looks really good.” I almost choked on my own saliva.
“She still thinks she's so big and even turned down Malfoy!” Livia said, and I could tell the hint of something in her voice. She was in love with Malfoy after all, everyone knew it. Yet the guy had always never given her face.
Tsk…poor thing.
“You seem to be so interested. Why don't you ask Malfoy to go with you to the banquet?” Lena said beside me, and I couldn't help but stifle the chuckle that almost escaped my lips when I saw Livia's face.
“You–even if you can attend the banquet due to your family, can you say the same for the ugly duckling? I'll eat dust if she attends,” Livia fumed, and I only shrugged my shoulders. Perhaps she'll indeed eat dust.
Livia harrumphed, being pulled away by Kylie, and they soon vanished from our sight.
I turned to see Lena cast me an apologetic gaze, making me smile.
“I really wouldn't attend if not for my father,” She explained, but I stopped her from going further.
“It's okay,” I muttered. In my heart, I was only thankful that we could still be friends. I was thankful that Kylie hadn't torn us apart completely before I realized who she truly was.
Our meal continued, and I easily stuffed myself until I was full.
By the time we were done, it was already getting late. The sun had hidden beneath the clouds, casting orange and purple rays onto the horizon.
Lena had offered to take me home in her family vehicle, and kindly declined, explaining to her that I wasn't going home directly and would have to pick something up on the way. When I saw her car drive off, my gaze turned dark.
Seeing the black Audi that had been parked not too far away, I walked towards it, pulling the door open as I hopped in.
“Miss, Sir asked that I pick you up,” Kai muttered from the driver's seat, and I hummed in response before the car started, driving off.
Soon, we arrived at the most expensive boutique in the country, yet my eyes remained unchanged. I'd just got out of the car when I spotted Jackson, my ex.
I certainly did not expect to find him in a place like this.
I ignored him, walking into the boutique, not expecting him to follow me, but he did, grabbing me by the arm just as I took two steps in.
“Tell me which sugar daddy you hooked up with, little bitch,”
“Get your hands off the young miss,” Kai's voice sounded in the next second as he shoved Jackson away.
Not just me, but Jackson were surprised at how quickly Kai's demeanor had changed. Was he merely just an assistant? It couldn't be. I could perceive the aura from him. An aura I had not perceived in a long time–assassin!
