Kay wraps her arm around his. "Casey and I go way back." How do I not know this? Casey is avoiding my eyes as more questions come to mind. I know I never told Casey about Dylan and Kay, but this is still a surprise. She's the last person I would expect to know Kay. "Well, are you guys going to sit down, or what?" Anthony asks Dylan and Kay, changing the subject. Dylan looks around and I wonder if he's purposely not addressing me. "We'll grab a seat over here." They walk over to a smaller table behind us and I stare at Casey. "You know Kay?" I need answers now. "Her family are friends with my family," she shrugs. "Why is she with Dylan?" "I'll tell you later." I want to ask her why she got anxious around Kay, but it isn't the time for questions. I put it to the back of my mind for now. Reece makes a funny face at Carlos before addressing the rest of us. "Anyway, the show is going to start soon." "What does this record label person look like?" I ask all of them. Maybe we can watch their reaction to the performance. "No idea," Anthony says. "Maybe he'll be in a suit." "Or she," I point out. Or they if we want to get specific. "Or maybe he'll look like some scrub off the street," Reece says. "It's hard to tell." "Which could be anyone in here," Casey says to me, glancing around. Max climbs onto the stage and announces Derrick and Jared and everyone claps for them. I sneak a glance at Dylan and Kay. Kay is on her phone while Dylan is watching the stage intently. His eyes meet mine and instead of looking away I smile at him. His serious expression breaks and he smiles back. Carlos is watching me before I focus my attention back on the stage. He winks at me before shifting his gaze. These boys will probably be the death of me. I have a feeling their strange stares and crazy personalities are only the tip of the iceberg. The music starts and it doesn't sound like anything I've heard before. It's upbeat and energetic with Derrick doing a little more singing this time around. It fills me with some kind of joy that they're being pursued by a label who likes their style. It's huge. "I think they wrote this song," Anthony interrupts my thoughts. It makes sense that they would break out their original songs. Proving they can write their own music is probably a plus. Casey is dancing in her chair and seems to be enjoying their set. They do a couple covers of other songs and the boys and I sing along. It feels good to have Casey there having just as much fun as I'm having. Towards the end of their set, Kay stands up from her spot with Dylan. She says a few words to him before she walks towards us. She walks directly to Casey and flashes her a smile. "I'll tell Xavier you say hi," she says. It sounds innocent, but who the hell is Xavier? Casey ignores her and watches the set instead. Kay smirks before she walks towards the exit and leaves Raven's. Dylan positions himself next to Anthony and puts his arm around him, nodding his head along to the song. When Derrick and Jared finish they walk off stage, managing to get through the thick crowd. They give people high-fives and hugs, and they seem really pumped. Instead of coming to our table, they go through the door to go to the back of Raven's. Reece nearly jumps out of his seat with excitement. "That was awesome, man. They were great tonight." Anthony nods. "They get better and better every time." "They are so amazing!" Casey is at the edge of her seat. "I'm definitely coming more often to watch them." Dylan finally sits between Casey and Reece and shoves his phone in his pocket in the process. "Look who's finally joining the party," Carlos teases him. "Shut up," Dylan rolls his eyes. The next band goes on stage and plays some more upbeat songs. They start to play a slower song and Carlos stands up suddenly, causing everyone to watch him. He holds his hand out to me. "Let's dance," he says. Carlos wants to dance with me? I look around to see if it's a joke and everyone else seems just as surprised as I am. Dylan doesn't particularly look impressed. It's an unexpected gesture, but I take Carlos' hand anyway and he whisks me to where everyone else is dancing. He's actually a great dancer and I can't help but laugh as he spins me around multiple times. He dips me just as the song ends. "Where did you learn to dance like that?" I ask him when we're walking back to the table. "I'm self-taught," he smiles proudly. He grabs my hand and spins me around one more time, but this time bringing me in closer to his body. "In a lot of things actually." He's close enough that his hot breath tickles my ear and I let out a laugh. He then smirks and walks back around to his spot at the table. Casey is gone from her seat so I turn to Dylan for answers. "Where's Casey?" I ask him. "Bathroom." He's acting strangely, not meeting my eyes when I talk to him. I move into Casey's seat and nudge him. "Why didn't you and Kay dance out there?" "Kay doesn't like to dance." "Kay, or you?" He stares at me. "Fine, you caught me. I'm not Carlos." The way he say Carlos' name makes me twist my mouth into a frown. He sounds...bitter? Does he have something against Carlos? "Didn't you see me out there? I'm sure I looked like a rag doll being dragged around." A small chuckle escapes from him and I smile, knowing I'm making progress with him. "I'm not a good dancer, but I still like doing it," I shrug. "Well, you didn't look so bad with Carlos." "You kind of have to learn fast with him, I guess. Don't tell me you're jealous of his skills?" I make it so I'm teasing him and so he knows I'm joking around.
