I look at Casey. "Are you up for some live music?" I can't see how she'll turn down live music, but I ask anyway. She's intrigued. "Sure." "We'll be there. What time?" I ask Anthony. "They go on at nine." "We'll see you there," I say before hanging up. Casey makes herself more comfortable on her bed. "Where are we going?" "Remember that place I told you about? The one Dylan took me to?" She nods. "There. His brother's band is performing and someone from a record label is going to be watching them, so they're rallying more support for them," I explain. My mind drifts back to Dylan and I wonder if he's with Kay. I have a strong feeling he's with Kay. "That was Dylan?" she asks, raising her eyebrows. "No," I shake my head. Instead of explaining, I glance at the time on my phone, which reads eight-fifteen. "We should probably start getting ready. They go on at nine." Of course, I didn't know we'd be going out so I don't have any nicer clothes to wear. Casey and I start digging through her closet for something to wear. She's pulling out girlier options, and I'm trying to stop her. Girly is not the right attire for Raven's. She doesn't have any band t-shirts other than her One Direction shirt her cousin got at one of their concerts. She ends up in a jean skirt with a plain shirt with simple stripes. I settle for some ripped jeans and an olive-green tank top. I throw my hair into a messy bun and call it combed. The parking lot is full when we get to Raven's and I have to park along the street. I anxiously rubbed my hands together as we're walking up to the door. This has to be a good sign for Derrick and Jared for them to get looked at a second time by a label. "This place is...different than I expected," Casey says as we walk through the door. "It's a good different, I think." Before I can answer, I hear my name being called. I scan the room and see the boys sitting in the corner. I grab Casey's hand so I won't lose her in the crowd. "C'mon." We make our way over to the boys' table and they smile as we approach them. It's the typical group sans Dylan. "Look who made it!" Reece says excitedly. "And you brought a friend." The only time they had met Casey was at Dylan's party, when they watched over her while Dylan helped me dry off from falling into the pool. "Casey, maybe you remember, but this is Reece, Carlos, and Anthony," I introduce her. They wave to her and vice versa. Casey and I get comfy on some stools Anthony pulls up for us and I look at him. "Are Derrick and Jared nervous?" He shakes his head. "No way. They're ready to put on a good show." "Where's Dylan?" Casey asks him. "I mean, it's his brother playing, right?" Anthony's face changes. "I'm not sure if he'll make it." How can he not be here to support his brother? If I had a sibling pursuing something they dreamed of, I'd be there to support them one hundred percent of the time. I guess Dylan doesn't have the same mindset. He didn't even mention their show in class. He's hardly spoken to me all week. I don't bother asking if he was with Kay. I know they're together. More people enter the building as it's nearing nine o'clock. The noise level goes up and Casey leans closer to me so I can hear her talk. "What kind of music do they play?" she asks. "Alternative and classic rock. They're really good." Reece catches my attention. "Are you going to be singing along again?" he asks me. "If you guys are, then yeah," I chuckle. I'm all for singing obnoxiously with them again. Casey gives me a questioning look and I only smile at her. It's fun introducing her to something new. She's usually the one getting me to go out and try new things. I take pride in knowing it's the opposite this time. "Great, we get to hear Lacey sing offkey again," Carlos smirks. I don't want to be the subject of jokes, so I shake off any uncertainty and say, "I don't know, Carlos, you might scare people off with your vocal cords." Everyone snickers and Carlos seems to take the challenge. "Don't start what you can't finish, Lacey." "I can finish. Can you?" I ask him, raising my eyebrow. "You should hear Carlos sing Love On the Brain, that Rihanna song? He sings it pretty well when he's drunk," Reece snitches on him. Casey and I laugh. I can only imagine what that must be like, especially coming from Carlos. "I bet I can do better," I can't help but say. Anthony holds up his hands. "Okay, okay. Just kiss and make up." Pushing on in my confidence, I blow Carlos a kiss. Reece whistles and Carlos and Anthony laugh. "That's all the action he's getting tonight," Anthony says and Carlos punches his arm. "Who's getting action tonight?" We all turn and find Dylan standing behind me. Next to him is Kay in a tight, white crop top and tight jeans. Anthony smirks at me before turning back to him. "Carlos is getting action from Lacey." Carlos flips all of them off. "Yeah, more than any of you bastards." There's no point in disputing. It's fun to play along. Kay gives Casey a strange look and Casey does the same. "Hey, Kay," she says. "Casey," Kay acknowledges her. "This doesn't seem like your type of place." "I brought her with me," I speak up. How do they know each other? This is a twist my brain isn't ready for. "You two know each other?" Dylan asks, practically reading my mind.
