There's a stiffness in my shoulder and I shift in my bed. The smell of green, like a freshly cut lawn, hits my nose and I feel myself frowning. My sheets don't smell like that. I open one eye and someone's face is right in front of mine. Dylan's sleep face is soft with his thick brows slightly drawn together. His full lips are stuck in a pout and I smile at how innocent he looks. Both eyes are open now and I'm blinking to wake myself up. My hands meet wet grass when I sit up. I glance around and remember we came to the park in a drunken attempt to stay up until sunrise. It's still dark and when I look at my phone I see that it's four in the morning. There's no way I'm staying out here any longer, especially not in the dew-covered grass. I shake Dylan slightly. "Wake up." He moves a little before he has the same reaction to the wet grass. He opens his eyes and when they land on me he smiles. "What time is it?" "Almost four-thirty." He pushes himself up and rubs his eyes. "Damn." "I think we should get going," I say as I feel a headache coming on. We both stand up and start walking towards downtown. Few people are out, probably stragglers from the bars. Maybe early-birds. "Where are you staying?" I ask Dylan. "Some hotel off Main Street. I took an Uber to the bar. How are you getting home?" he asks, rubbing his eyes. "I usually take the bus home." He makes a face. "I don't trust people on the bus. I'll go with you." "But then you'll have to come all the way back into town to your hotel," I point out. I don't want him going through all that trouble. "It's fine," he waves it off. "I don't want some creep bothering you." I shrug it off and we catch the next available bus. Once we're dropped off by my apartment complex, I feel bad again for him coming with me. "This is me," I point to my building. "Um, do you want to crash on my couch? It's better than bussing back to your hotel or waiting for an Uber." He smirks and I feel heat in my cheeks. Damn, why is he so cute? "You're inviting me in?" he teases. His voice is lazy and I can tell he's still a little drunk. "I'm doing you a favor," I shove his shoulder. "Come on." We take the elevator to my floor and I thank my anxious self for cleaning before I left. I unlock the door and let Dylan in. He looks around like a kid in a toy store and a broad grin spreads on his face. "I love it." I gesture to the couch. "It isn't a pull-out, but Casey slept pretty well on it. I'll grab a blanket." I rush to my room and find a blanket in my closet. Once I come back out I find a pant-less Dylan lying on the couch already. My cheeks warm again when I catch sight of his boxers. "Here," I say as I hand him the blanket, trying to seem unfazed by his naked legs. He smirks, probably knowing that he caught me off-guard. "Thanks." He takes the blanket and opens it up, covering himself from the waist down. "Good night," I say, backing out of the living room. "Night, Lace," he smiles. I take off to the bathroom to start my nightly routine. I quickly remove my makeup and add my moisturizers before coming back out. In my room I peel off my clothes and step into my pajama shorts and t-shirt. As I lay in my bed I feel like I can't fall asleep. I never would've imagined Dylan sleeping on my couch. Imagining him coming back into my life was something I only thought about right after we broke up. It's strange to think we've ended up like this. My eyes close and the last image in my mind is of Dylan. ~ A pounding headache wakes me up along with the sunlight streaming through my curtains. I roll over in my bed and rub my temples to ease the pain. I slowly open my eyes and try to recall last nights events. When I move again I catch sight of something. On my nightstand is a pill and a glass of water. I sit up and stretch as the events come back to me. Dylan and I got drunk and slept for three hours at the park. And we missed the sunrise. The pill is a regular painkiller and I take it quickly. I smooth my hair as I walk out of my room into the living room. The blanket I'd given Dylan is neatly folded on the couch and the place is dead silent. Did he leave while I was sleeping? The clock on the wall reveals it's just after eleven. I thought I was going to sleep longer than that. The apartment is just how I left it, with no signs another person was here besides the blanket on the couch. Dylan is an easy guest. As I'm pulling out some orange juice from the fridge my phone starts to ring. Anthony's name comes up and I answer the call. "Please don't talk loudly," I tell him. "Hungover again? Damn, I'm missing out," he laughs. "While I forgive you for not telling me that Dylan was there with you, Casey isn't so forgiving." My heart beat speeds up. "How do you know?" "I just talked to him. He let it slip to me and I let it slip to Casey." Shit. I glance at my phone and see that I have missed calls from Casey and Cora. "Such a gossip, Anthony," I say, avoiding the actual conversation. This is exactly why I didn't want to tell anyone. "I'm just looking out for my best friend, aka you. So you and Dylan, huh?" He makes it sound suggestive so I shoot that down. "Nope. We got drunk together, he slept on my couch, and that's that." There's a knock at my door and I quickly think of who it could be. Dylan wouldn't come back would he? "I knew you two couldn't stay away from each other," Anthony teases. "I called it, once again." "There is no it," I say as I walk to the door and open it. Cora and Dylan are standing at my door together and I feel a little blindsided. The two of them together is a sight to see. "Anthony, I'll have to call you back," I say, hanging up on him. I look to Cora and Dylan for answers. Cora, who's dressed in jeans and a cute red top, gives me a bright smile. "Look who I ran into in the elevator," she gestures to Dylan. His hair looks slightly damp, meaning he probably showered at his hotel. He's wearing a white t-shirt and some light-wash jeans. Meanwhile, I most likely look like death. Dylan flashes me a smile. "I almost got lost until I ran into your friend here." This is all overwhelming. "Um, sorry. My head is not in any condition to process this," I say, rubbing my head again. Cora steps forward. "That's why we're here to take care of you," she says, leading me back into the apartment with Dylan close behind. "Did you take the medicine I left?" Dylan asks. I nod. "I literally just woke up." I'm still in my pajamas, no bra, and I haven't even brushed my teeth.
