Chapter 56 Chapter 56
RUBY
As we finished dinner, Robert and Cassie got ready to leave since it was getting dark.
"Sorry Cassie. I'm sure Robert will not do any shit with you" Sebastian said.
"it's fine" Cassie replied.
"Maybe you can throw me out of the car now" Robert smirked.
Cassie huffed and stormed toward Robert’s car without another word. I knew she didn’t want to be in that car, but she had no choice when Sebastian told her he couldn’t leave me alone in the house. That wasn’t completely true. Robert had asked to be the one to take her back to the dorm.
"Thank you, Ruby. I promise I'll take care of her"
"Good" I smiled.
''See you tomorrow, man" Robert told Sebastian before getting into the car and driving away.
As Sebastian and I stepped into the house, I saw Noelle walking toward the kitchen with a few dirty plates from the dining table.
Sebastian’s phone rang just then, he pulled it out of his pocket, stepping away as he answered it.
I started toward Noelle, intending to help her clean up, but then I remembered Warren’s jacket.
I had left it in Sebastian’s car earlier, and knowing how irritated he was with Warren’s scent on it, I had no doubt he would throw it away if he found it. He had already told me to get rid of it, and if he saw it again, he wouldn’t hesitate.
As much as I didn’t have the best feelings about Warren, he had saved me from drowning, and I owed him at least enough to return his jacket.
Turning toward the door, I stole a quick glance at Sebastian. He was still on the phone, his expression hard.
"Get me every detail on him. I want to know every damn job he's juggling," I heard him say in a low, commanding voice.
Something about his tone sent a strange feeling through me, but I pushed it aside as I stepped out, closing the door quietly behind me.
I made my way to his car, opening the passenger side and grabbing the jacket.
Turning to go back inside, the door suddenly opened, and Sebastian stepped out. His face was tense, his eyes dark with anger.
"I'm going to the packhouse," he muttered, barely looking at me as he walked past.
Frowning, I turned and followed him, my feet moving before I could stop myself. "Seb, what happened?" I asked as he reached for the car door.
"I need to see the Alpha," he said as if that explained everything.
Before I could ask more, he slid into the driver's seat, slamming the door shut.
I stood there, watching as he started the engine and drove off, his frustration clear in the way he gripped the wheel.
What could have happen between him and Alpha? Did the Alpha tell him not to play hockey tomorrow?
As his car disappeared from my sight, I sighed, walking back inside.
Noelle was still in the kitchen, rinsing off some plates.
I handed her the jacket. "Can you wash this for me?"
She nodded. "Sure."
It had been almost an hour since Sebastian left, and I was still worried about what had happened. I was sitting in the living room, trying to reach Kiara to find out when a knock came at the front door.
I quickly made my way over and pulled it open, only to be met with a surprising sight—Graham.
He stood there, his face battered, his lips swollen and bruised, like he’d been in a fight.
I stared at him for a beat, wondering what had happened to him.
"Ruby," he said quietly. It was the first time he’d said my name in weeks.
Why was he even here?
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice colder than I intended.
He sighed, holding my gaze. "I'm sorry, Ruby. I know I failed you"
Sorry? After everything?
"Why now, Graham?"
He opened his mouth to respond when the sound of a car approaching made us both turn.
Headlights flashed across the driveway as Sebastian’s car pulled up.
