Chapter 318 Nora Strikes Back
Chapter 318 Nora Strikes Back
Electra sat in the main seat—she was the richest man's wife.
This was the culture of the wealthy ladies' circle. Every wealthy lady had to attend these gatherings, carrying expensive bags, with higher status meaning a more central position.
Seeing Jada pulling Nora in, Electra frowned. Why did Jada bring her here?
But she still had to appear friendly on the surface. "Nora, what brings you here?"
"Mommy, I brought Nora to meet everyone," Jada answered Electra.
Electra frowned. Why bring her to meet the wealthy ladies?
Then catching Jada's cunning look, Electra understood—Jada knew Nora hadn't learned proper etiquette and deliberately brought her here to embarrass her.
For example, eating French cuisine had its rules. If she hadn't learned them, how would she know?
So Electra said nothing and went back to chatting with the wealthy ladies.
"Nora, let me introduce you to all the ladies. These kinds of gatherings happen quite often, so you should get familiar with everyone's faces early on." Jada pulled Nora's hand to meet people.
"This is Mrs. Turner from Horizon Ventures Inc." Jada started introducing from Electra's right side, so Brenda would be last.
"Hello." Since she was here, she couldn't be impolite. Nora greeted everyone politely one by one.
After going around the circle, they reached Brenda.
Jada said with a smile, "Nora, this is Mrs. Brenda Mellon, wife of the former richest man, Mr. Brandon Mellon."
Nora glanced at Brenda and smiled slightly.
Brenda gave her a faint smile without saying anything, seeming to be in a bad mood.
Electra noticed and turned to ask Brenda, "Mrs. Mellon, have you found your diamond ring?"
"Not yet. The staff are looking for it." This was why Brenda was in a bad mood. Her pink diamond ring had just gone missing. She'd already notified the staff to help search. She sat here waiting, which was why the atmosphere in the room wasn't great.
"That ring seems to be the engagement ring Mr. Mellon gave you?" another wealthy lady asked Brenda.
Brenda nodded. "Yes, that diamond ring means a lot to me."
"It must be worth quite a bit." The people at the table started discussing in low voices.
Jada listened from the side, her eyes flashing. She walked to Brenda's ear and whispered, "Mrs. Mellon, I just saw something. I don't know if I should mention it."
Brenda glanced at Jada's face. "Go ahead."
"Your diamond ring is pink, right?"
"Yes."
"I think I just saw Nora looking at a pink diamond ring in the restroom. I don't know if it was yours..." Jada left her words hanging.
Brenda narrowed her eyes and looked at Nora, who still didn't know what had happened and was standing to the side taking a phone call.
James called Nora to tell her that Steven was still in a meeting and would come over a bit later.
"That's impossible, right? She seems to have a pink diamond ring too—the diamond Steven bought from Brandon. What you saw, could it be her own?" Brenda looked at Jada, one arm resting on the chair back, looking slender and elegant.
Jada said, "It didn't look like it. I remember the pink diamond Steven gave Nora was square-shaped, but the one she was looking at in the restroom just now was round."
Hearing this, Brenda's eyes turned cold. She raised her eyebrows and asked Jada, "So you suspect Nora stole my pink diamond ring?"
"I'm not really sure..." Jada put on an uncertain look.
"I'll just call her over and ask, then we'll know." Brenda saw that Nora had finished her call and waved her over.
Nora walked over and nodded politely. "Mrs. Mellon."
"Just call me Brenda." Brenda's expression was kind, and she said in a moderate voice, "Jada just said she saw you looking at a round pink diamond ring in the restroom?"
As soon as she said this, everyone at the table gasped and looked over.
So the pink diamond ring Brenda lost was stolen by this girl called Nora?
Jada hadn't expected Brenda to be so direct about it. Her face stiffened a bit.
Nora was stunned for a moment. So this was what they were waiting for.
No wonder when she came in, she heard several ladies talking about Brenda losing her ring.
Electra frowned, confused, and asked Jada out loud, "Jada, did you really see it?"
"Yes!" Jada nodded firmly. "I saw it in the restroom. Nora was holding it in her hand. I thought it was strange too—Nora's pink diamond is square-shaped, so how could it suddenly become round?"
After everyone heard this, their eyes fell on Nora.
"I didn't," Nora answered, then looked at Jada. "Jada, why are you falsely accusing me? We just met in the lobby. When did I go to the restroom?"
"Nora, Jada and I ran into you in the restroom first and saw you holding a pink diamond ring, but we didn't make a fuss about it. We only met you in the lobby later." Jada's friend Gaia Fox came out to back her up, making the story seem real.
Nora looked at the two of them in disbelief. "I never went to the restroom at all. You two are falsely accusing me."
"Jada and I saw with our own eyes that you put Mrs. Mellon's pink diamond ring in your bag." Gaia pointed at the bag in Nora's hand.
"I didn't take it at all." Nora didn't want to talk to them anymore and turned to leave.
Gaia stepped out to block Nora. "Don't leave. Nora, why do you feel guilty and want to leave as soon as we mention the diamond ring? If you want to prove your innocence, open your bag and show us."
Nora protected her bag. "Why should I show you? I didn't do anything."
Her flustered appearance made her look very guilty.
Electra saw the smile on Jada's face and understood—this was Jada's setup. Right now, Brenda's pink diamond ring should be in Nora's bag.
She curved her lips. Jada wasn't mature enough, but she definitely took after her in getting revenge.
If this came out today, Nora's reputation in the wealthy ladies' circle would be ruined, and she'd also offend Brenda.
"If you didn't do anything, you don't need to feel guilty." Gaia said, "Everyone's here right now. Just dump out what's in your bag, and we'll know whether you're innocent or not."
Nora laughed mockingly. "I think you did this on purpose, tricking me here and then falsely accusing me of stealing."
"We're not that bored." Gaia glared at her.
"I think we should just call the police on this," Jada said, as if making a suggestion. "Since Nora won't cooperate, let the police handle it."
Nora's expression became flustered.
Jada knew it—girls from small households like Nora were most afraid of the police.
She gave Gaia a look, and Gaia said, "Nora, if you didn't steal it, just let us check your bag now. If there's nothing there, then nothing happened. But if this gets reported to the police, it won't be so easy to handle."
Nora still clutched her bag tightly. "Go ahead and call the police. I'm not afraid. I didn't steal anything."
Jada's eyes flashed. "Fine, then we'll call the police."
Nora was the one who wanted to make this big—Jada was just helping her along.
Ten minutes later, police officers arrived.
Jada took the initiative to talk with them, explaining the situation. The officers nodded and went to talk with Brenda.
Brenda glanced at Nora without saying anything, just told the officers about the situation.
The officers nodded and went to talk to Nora.
"I can cooperate with the investigation, but I have one requirement. If you're going to search bags, everyone in the room has to be searched. Otherwise it's not fair to me." That's what Nora said.
The officers looked a bit troubled and walked to the table to explain this to everyone.
People hesitated, but Jada stood up and said proactively, "Fine, then search everyone to prove everyone's innocence."
Jada had said it all.
The people at the table had no choice but to cooperate.
The wealthy ladies took out their bags one by one for the police to check. None of the bags on the table contained Brenda's missing pink diamond ring.
Now, it was Nora's turn.
Nora frowned.
Jada said with a smile, "Nora, it's time for you to prove your innocence."
Nora saw the smile on her face and seemed to understand something. She took a step back. "I won't let you check!"
She gripped her bag tightly.
Jada's eyes turned cold. She and Gaia grabbed her bag away.
Nora's face paled slightly. Gaia had already lifted Nora's bag and handed it to the officer. "Officer, here!"
The two looked so confident. Alarm bells rang in Nora's mind.
When the officer searched the bag, everyone's eyes turned over.
Jada showed a triumphant smile.
She was definitely going down!
The officer searched for a while, then said, "There is no pink diamond ring in this young lady's bag."
Jada's face changed dramatically.
"How can there be nothing?" She walked to the officer's side in a few steps, almost losing her composure as she dumped out everything in Nora's bag. There was only a pack of tissues and a lipstick—no pink diamond ring at all.
Jada's face turned pale. She turned to look at Nora. "How can there be nothing? You clearly put it in your bag just now."
Nora said gently, "I already said there wasn't anything. You just wouldn't believe me. Now it's your turn, Jada. Open your bag and show it to the officer."
Jada frowned.
The officer had already walked to her side. "Miss, please cooperate. Please let us see your bag."
Jada looked at the bag hanging at her waist, feeling irritated. She took it off and handed it to the officer.
She didn't know why the pink diamond had suddenly disappeared. She was annoyed that she hadn't managed to harm Nora.
The officer searched Jada's bag for a while and pulled out a pink diamond ring.
Everyone's faces changed, including Electra's.
"Mrs. Mellon, is this the pink diamond ring you lost?" The officer brought the ring to Brenda.
Brenda's eyes turned cold. "It's mine."
Everyone was shocked and all looked at Jada.
Jada's face changed dramatically!
How could this be?
How could Brenda's pink diamond ring be in her bag?
Brenda's pink diamond was indeed stolen by her.
At the time, she and her mother were sitting next to Brenda. Brenda took off the ring and put it in her bag. Jada saw her bag on the chair and stole the pink diamond when she went to the restroom.
But she regretted it right after stealing it, because this pink diamond was one of a kind. She couldn't wear it out even if she stole it, and she'd taken the risk of theft.
Originally, she wanted to throw the pink diamond ring in the women's restroom without anyone knowing, pretending Brenda had accidentally lost it there. But then she ran into Nora.
Thinking about Steven having someone beat her up, Jada decided to get revenge on Nora and stuffed the pink diamond ring into Nora's bag.
But now, this pink diamond ring wasn't in Nora's bag—it was in hers.
Jada seemed to think of something and suddenly turned to look at Nora.
Nora looked deeply back at her.
