Chapter 169 How Do You Know?
Eleanor's face darkened. "Terry and Bianca are both helping Willie at the company. They work for him. What's wrong with him treating his siblings better?"
"Then he might as well fire them." Nora sneered. "What use are they? They don't know anything about anything. They do nothing at the company - you call that helping? Hire two junior staff members instead. They'd get paid less and still do better than those two!"
Hearing this, Giselle couldn't sit still anymore. Terry was her husband, and she wasn't happy about Nora talking about him like that.
"Terry is Willie's older brother. He doesn't know much because he gave up his college place to Willie back then - that's why he knows less!" Giselle's family had been using this one thing to take advantage of Willie all along.
"Well, you should talk to Eleanor and her husband about that. They're the ones who couldn't afford to send Terry to college. They're the ones who feel guilty about it. What does it have to do with Olivia? Why should Olivia be responsible for his entire life? And another thing - just because he didn't get much education means he can take kickbacks at the company? If this gets reported to the police, he could go to jail." Nora fired back without missing a beat.
The two had nothing to say.
Elizabeth was quite enjoying the show. Nora had good logic - she was really good at arguing.
After a moment of silence, Eleanor said, "Nora, I came here today hoping you would stop stirring up trouble between Olivia and Willie."
She could tell it was Nora causing problems. Otherwise, how could someone as gentle and graceful as Olivia suddenly change like this?
"I don't like what you're saying." Elizabeth shot Eleanor a cold look. "What do you mean, Nora is driving a wedge between Olivia and Willie? You're the one who did something wrong, badmouthing Olivia in front of the media, gaining sympathy so people online would cyberbully Olivia. The way you act, who would dare be your daughter-in-law?"
Nora almost laughed out loud.
Elizabeth was really something - she'd been holding back!
Eleanor glared at Elizabeth angrily. "The one in jail is my sister. Can't I think about her?"
"But the one who died was your own grandson." Elizabeth's gaze was piercing.
Eleanor choked. "Whether he was my grandson or not is hard to say. He wasn't even born yet, who can say for sure..."
Nora threw several walnuts at her.
Eleanor got hit on the forehead. It hurt so much she covered it with her hand. "Nora!"
"Eleanor." Giselle stood up, concerned about Eleanor. "Did the walnut hit you? Is your forehead okay?"
"It hurts!" Eleanor answered darkly.
Nora looked at them coldly. "If you keep talking nonsense, I won't just be throwing a few walnuts."
"Now I finally understand why Olivia wants a divorce. With someone like you, hell is exactly where you belong." Elizabeth snorted. She didn't want to see them anymore and said to Lally, "Lally, show them out."
Elizabeth couldn't listen anymore.
She'd lived this long and never seen such ridiculous people!
"Please leave." Lally walked up to them and made a gesture for them to go. If they didn't leave, she'd have to use force.
Eleanor's face was grim. She said to Nora, "Nora, remember what happened today. When Willie and Olivia get divorced, when Olivia has no one and isn't doing well, and Willie is more and more successful, I hope Olivia won't regret it. And I hope you remember that you're the one who ruined Olivia's life."
Nora's face suddenly darkened.
Elizabeth snorted coldly. "Don't worry. Leaving your family is like escaping from hell - what's there to regret?"
Eleanor's face twisted with anger as she left with Giselle.
After they left, Nora looked at the table, feeling a bit down.
Elizabeth held her hand. "Don't worry, Nora. She's just trying to scare you, deliberately putting this responsibility on you."
Elizabeth had seen this many times. Eleanor was deliberately putting this responsibility on Nora's shoulders. Some people, afraid of being blamed for ruining a family member's marriage and happiness, don't dare take on this responsibility, because no one dares to be responsible for someone else's life - if things go well, there's no credit, but if things go badly, you get blamed.
Elizabeth held her hand and said, "Women nowadays can work and support themselves. Olivia is still young. Getting divorced is no big deal. If she continues living with that family, that would be a living hell."
"Yes." Nora agreed, and had to admit that Elizabeth was really good at comforting people.
Elizabeth said, "Some marriages just aren't worth compromising over. Compromising will only ruin your life. If Olivia were my daughter, I would have made a scene at their house long ago."
Nora felt touched and smiled. "I wish my parents were like you."
The Adams family parents had been weak all their lives, unwilling to stand up for anything. That's why the Reed family thought they could bully them.
"Next time they come, call me. I'm old and experienced. I can help you deal with them." Elizabeth quite enjoyed getting involved. She was usually too bored. It was rare to have something to do, and it made life more interesting.
Elizabeth stayed until the evening before leaving.
Nora asked her to stay for the health tonic, but Elizabeth refused, no matter what. She said mysteriously, "Nora, those supplements I gave you are for you and your husband to take. Don't give them to anyone else, understand?"
Nora didn't understand. After Elizabeth left, she took a bowl of the tonic to her room to study.
After eating it, she felt an indescribable heat.
What kind of health tonic did Elizabeth send? Why did she feel so hot after eating it?
---
As soon as Elizabeth left, she called Steven. "Steven, here's your chance to shine."
"What chance?" Steven was signing documents.
Elizabeth said, "This morning, members of the Reed family came over. What they said really upset Nora. When I left, Nora was still feeling down. Tonight, buy some small gifts, some good food, and cheer her up. Let her know what a good husband you are."
Steven pressed his lips together. "I can't do that kind of thing."
"How can you not? Your wife is sad and upset, and you won't try to cheer her up? And you say you can't do it. What's the use of having a low-EQ man like you?"
Steven fell silent.
Too lazy to listen to Elizabeth, Steven hung up.
But after thinking about it, he still called James in. "Go to Shrimp King Restaurant and order two portions of shrimp, plus two other dishes. I'm taking them home tonight."
Chris said this place was good, but didn't deliver. He told him to definitely try it.
"Okay." James agreed and walked out.
"Wait," Steven called him back.
"Mr. York, is there something else?"
"Order me a bouquet of flowers to give to Nora," Steven instructed calmly.
If Elizabeth heard this, she'd definitely praise him!
When Steven came home, the lights weren't on.
He put the shrimp and bouquet on the table and tiptoed to the master bedroom.
The master bedroom lights weren't on either.
Nora was asleep, slumped over the computer desk.
Steven frowned.
Didn't she know to sleep in bed when she was tired? So lazy.
Now that it was cold, sleeping like this could easily make her catch a cold.
Steven walked over quietly. As soon as he picked her up, she woke up. She was wearing home clothes, and her long hair smelled nice.
"Steven?" Nora rubbed her eyes. "You're back?"
"Yes. Why didn't you sleep in bed if you were tired?" Steven carried her to the bed.
Nora said drowsily, "That online class was so boring, I couldn't hold out, so I just lay down for a bit."
Steven found it a bit funny. "Is it that hard to bear?"
"Maybe the teacher's lecture was too boring." She yawned. "It's already dark. I'll go make dinner."
Steven held her down.
In the darkness, Steven's features looked sharp and defined.
Steven looked so good every day!
"No need to cook. I bought shrimp. It's on the dining table outside."
"Don't we need to make some staple food?"
"I bought that too, plus two other dishes."
"Then we don't need to cook tonight. Let me go see." She got out of bed.
Steven pulled her hand. "Put on your shoes."
"OK!" She put on her shoes and walked out.
On the dining table was a very nice insulated takeout bag - that must be the shrimp - and next to it was a bouquet of flowers.
Nora picked it up.
Just then, Steven walked out. Seeing her pick up the flowers, he smiled and asked, "Do you like it?"
"I like it." She looked down at it.
This was the first time she'd received flowers from Steven.
Other guys had sent her flowers on Valentine's Day before, but she'd never accepted them.
"Why did you suddenly give me flowers?" Nora's smile was sweet. Looking at the bouquet, all her bad mood was healed.
"I heard that members of the Reed family came this morning, and you weren't in a good mood." Steven walked over.
"How did you know?"
"Grandma told me."
Nora was smelling the bouquet. It was pink, with several types of flowers combined together, looking especially beautiful.
"Do you like it that much?" Seeing how much she loved it, Steven felt a bit embarrassed.
However, he didn't expect Nora to be so easily satisfied - one bouquet of flowers could make her happy.
"I love it!" Nora said honestly. "Just looking at it makes me feel better."
She went to find a vase. There happened to be one in the living room. She arranged the flowers and put them on the table, then felt it wasn't quite right, so she brought them over and put them on the dining table.
Basically, she carried it around wherever she went.
Steven couldn't help but laugh. "It's just a bouquet of flowers. Just put it anywhere. Come eat."
"No way." Nora disagreed, moving it around before finally placing it on the dining table.
Steven shook his head helplessly and took the dishes out of the insulated bag. When he lifted the lid, the aroma of shrimp instantly wafted over.
"Smells so good!" Nora looked over. "Wow! These shrimp are really big, too."
Actually, she'd never eaten shrimp before.
"Eat up." Steven opened the lids of the other dishes one by one.
Nora swept her long hair behind her back and reached for the shrimp.
Steven grabbed her hand.
"What's wrong?" Nora looked up.
"You're not wearing gloves?" Steven frowned.
"...I didn't know there were any." Nora had never ordered shrimp delivery before and didn't know.
"You're such a dummy." Steven thought Nora was a bit silly, but it was probably because she rarely ordered takeout and didn't know about these things.
Steven tore open a package of gloves for her. "Hold out your hands, I'll help you put them on."
"Okay!" Nora responded and gave Steven her hand.
Steven helped her put them on. "You can eat now."
Both her hands were wearing gloves. She smiled. "Thank you, honey."
"Hurry up and eat." Steven felt like he was raising a daughter.
