Chapter 136: Steven Is Jealous of Chris Again
"Dr. Green, you sit here." Nora had Chris sit in the last empty seat at the table, right next to her.
Chris sat down gracefully. Steven was across from him, his gaze turning cold.
"What are you doing here?" Steven asked Chris.
Chris covered his stomach and looked at Alton, "I need to talk to Alton about something."
"Wait until after we finish the hotpot," Alton replied.
Nora sat at the table, eating while listening to the three men talk.
"Nora, come here for a second," Olivia called Nora over.
Nora thought Olivia wanted soup, so she ladled her a bowl.
Olivia said, "I see Dr. Green's stomach seems upset. Take this bowl of oatmeal porridge over to him. I can't eat that much."
"Okay."
Nora didn't think much of it and brought it over, placing it in front of Chris. "Dr. Green, your stomach's bothering you. Have some oatmeal porridge."
Chris's eyes fell on the oatmeal porridge in front of him.
His eyes softened as he looked at Nora. "Thank you. I haven't had dinner yet. You're so thoughtful."
"You're welcome." Nora smiled.
Steven's face completely darkened, and he glared at her coldly.
Last time at his place, she was so warm toward him, and now she notices Chris's stomach hurts, and brings him oatmeal porridge?
Being this enthusiastic—does she really have no feelings for Chris?
Nora turned her head and caught the coldness in Steven's eyes. Her heart skipped a beat. "What's wrong?"
"I want oatmeal porridge too," Steven said.
The two men at the table both laughed when they heard this.
Here we go again.
That damn competitiveness and possessiveness!
"What?" Nora was confused. "Isn't the hotpot good? Why do you suddenly want oatmeal porridge?"
"I suddenly feel like it," Steven replied.
Nora had no choice but to check with Olivia, but there was none left.
She said, "There's none left, Steven. That was the only bowl of oatmeal porridge, and I already gave it to Dr. Green."
Steven glared at her, his eyes heavy.
Chris deliberately said, "Ah! This oatmeal porridge is so good."
Steven's handsome face tensed up.
Nora came back and sat down, whispering in his ear, "Just eat the hotpot. Dr. Green has gastritis, that's why he's eating oatmeal porridge. There's nothing wrong with you."
Steven's gaze was dark. His hand reached over and pinched her waist under the table.
The others couldn't see.
But Nora's waist went soft from the pinch. She glared at him and lowered her voice to a level only the two of them could hear. "What are you doing?"
Steven's gaze was sharp and cold.
She was being nice to another man, and she's asking him what he's doing?
Steven pinched her again.
Nora got a bit angry. She simply stopped eating, put her hand under the table, and grabbed Steven's hand.
The kind of grab where you pinch a bit of flesh with your fingernails and twist it—really painful.
Steven's face darkened from her pinching, and his hand moved toward her thigh.
Nora jumped in fright and quickly pressed down on his hand. Then somehow, their fingers ended up interlaced.
Both of them froze.
But neither wanted to let go. Under the table, where no one could see, their fingers were tightly interlaced.
Steven used some force, locking her small hand firmly in his large palm.
Nora frowned slightly from the pain. "Why so hard? It hurts."
"Teaching you a lesson." His voice was soft, as if he wasn't angry anymore.
The anger came out of nowhere and disappeared just as quietly.
Nora didn't even know he'd been angry. She held hands with him, watching the others at the table chat.
Before she knew it, he pulled her hand and pressed it against his pants.
Nora's eyes went wide.
Damn it!
This guy!
Doesn't care about dignity anymore?
There are five people in the room!
He just brazenly pulled her hand to press against his pants like that—what is she supposed to do?
Her face was completely red, okay?
"Not eating anymore?" Alton glanced over.
Suddenly caught!
Nora's face turned completely red!
Chris scooped up a spoonful of oatmeal porridge and said meaningfully, "You're not doing something bad under the table, are you?"
"No!" Nora's face flushed as she tried to pull her hand back to eat hotpot.
Steven wouldn't let her. He held her hand tightly, a triumphant smile spreading across his lips.
So childish!
Nora felt very awkward and whispered to him, "Steven, let go of me."
"Call me honey." Steven looked completely calm, as if she were the only one doing something bad under the table.
Nora's face turned bright red. She said shyly, "Honey, let me go..."
Steven finally moved her hand away, but still held it, fingers interlaced, not letting her pull back.
But at least it was away from that dangerous place.
Nora breathed a sigh of relief and extended her other free hand back to the table to eat with one hand.
The one under the table remained in Steven's palm.
Steven also extended one hand to the table and even served her some food. "Have some beef, this is pretty good."
Nora couldn't taste the hotpot anymore after his antics, especially with the two men across from them looking at them meaningfully.
Nora felt completely exposed, particularly embarrassed, and just focused on eating her hotpot.
Steven kept serving her food, and she kept eating.
Soon, her stomach was stuffed.
She put down her utensils. "I can't anymore. I'm too full. I can't eat anymore. Steven, stop serving me food."
Only then did Steven stop.
Chris sighed. "You two look so in love."
Steven glanced over and, in front of Chris, deliberately lifted Nora's hair and kissed her forehead, asserting his claim.
Chris fell silent.
Alton just wanted to laugh. Chris had pushed this cold man, Steven, to the point of publicly showing affection.
Before, he hardly had any emotions.
Now that he has Nora, he has so many more emotions. People in love really are different.
After the meal.
Alton and Chris habitually put down their utensils and wanted to move to the sofa.
Steven stopped Chris, looking down at him. "You clean up after eating."
Chris pointed at himself. "Why me? I only ate oatmeal porridge just now. I didn't eat hotpot."
"You clean up," Steven repeated, pulling Nora to the sofa.
"You were the one who set it up earlier. After eating, you go to rest. You don't need to work. Let Chris do it."
Chris fell silent.
"Clean up, Chris." Alton patted his shoulder. "Who told you to tease Nora?"
"I'm a sick person!" Chris said pitifully.
No one paid attention to him.
Steven was already on the sofa, talking to Nora.
Alton was also playing on his phone, acting like he saw nothing.
Chris felt like he was an orphan now!
He has gastritis and still has to be enslaved!
He sighed and resigned himself to cleaning the table.
Nora sat on the sofa. After eating her fill, she felt lazy. She hugged a pillow and played on her phone.
Steven watched her.
She was playing a little game on her phone. It was actually kind of boring, but Steven still kept her company. "Click these two first, then click the one below."
As he watched, he gave her a pointer or two.
Nora propped up her chin and said, "Level two is so hard to pass. I tried all night and couldn't get through it."
"Let me try." Steven took her phone.
Their heads leaned together.
After cleaning for a while, Chris said, "There are two boxes of uneaten beef here. What should I do? Throw them away or keep them?"
Steven was about to say throw them away when Nora interjected, "Keep them! There's a fridge here. Give them to me."
She was about to walk over to get the beef.
Steven immediately pressed down on her hand. "I'll go."
He was now determined not to let Nora have any contact with Chris. He tossed the phone to Nora and went over to take the beef himself.
Nora fell silent.
Chris fell silent.
Steven put the beef in the freezer, walked over, and said to Nora as if asking for credit, "I put the beef in the freezer."
"That's where it's supposed to go."
"I'm smart, right?"
Nora looked at him. "Isn't that common sense?"
Steven fell silent.
"Keeping leftover beef—you guys are pretty thrifty, huh?" Chris walked over and said.
Steven glanced at Chris coolly. "Thrift is a virtue."
Chris fell silent.
Why does it feel like Steven is targeting him at every turn now?
Whatever he says, Steven has to contradict?
Steven gets jealous way too easily.
After a while, Alton and Chris were about to leave.
Steven was still in the hospital room.
Chris and Alton walked to the door. Chris deliberately called out to him, "Steven, aren't you leaving? Let's go hang out."
Steven said casually, "Not going. My honey won't let me."
The two at the door fell silent.
Nora fell silent.
After they left, Nora quietly asked him, "When did I say you couldn't hang out with them?"
She wasn't the type to not give her husband any space.
Her husband has his own social life. She's fine with him hanging out with friends occasionally.
"I don't want to go." Steven wanted to stay here, be with her, sit together on the sofa, lean against each other, and talk.
Olivia, the actual patient, had become the extra person instead.
She felt a bit awkward and lay down pretending to sleep.
Nora thought Olivia wanted to sleep, so she patted Steven's hand to get him to go out. "Steven, Olivia wants to sleep. Let's go outside for a walk."
"Okay."
The two walked out.
Behind the hospital was a garden.
The two walked slowly through the greenery. There weren't many people around.
The wind was strong. Nora shivered.
Steven took off his coat and had her put it on. "You wear this."
"Aren't you cold?" With his coat on her, he only had a shirt left.
Steven smiled. "I just finished hotpot. I'm pretty warm."
"You must be really healthy." As Nora spoke, the strong wind blew her hair into a mess.
Nora was about to reach up to fix it when Steven grabbed her hand.
"Let me." He tucked her hair behind her ear.
Nora looked up at him.
After tucking her hair, he was still fiddling with something, not sure what, using both hands to work on it.
"What are you doing?" Nora wanted to reach up to touch.
Steven said fiercely, "Don't raise your hand!"
"What's wrong?" Nora was a bit confused. What was he doing? And he wouldn't let her reach up to touch.
Steven was trying to put a hair clip on her, but he didn't know how to use it. After fumbling for a long time without getting it on, he ended up poking Nora.
"Ah!" A sharp pain in her scalp made Nora cry out. "What is that thing? It hurts so much."
Hearing her cry out, he looked at her. "Does it hurt a lot?"
"A little. It poked my scalp." She reached up to feel it and touched something cool. She took it down.
It was actually a rhinestone hair clip!
And it was in the shape of a rabbit—her favorite animal!
