Chapter 123 The Lonely Steven
Steven really knows how to pick women.
Andrew watched her quietly, thinking to himself: 'Pretty smart. She knew to wear sportswear to this kind of restaurant with entertainment activities. If she'd come in a dress like those delicate girls, it would be inconvenient for everything later.'
"Mr. Hayes." Nora walked over.
Andrew glanced at her, "Ms. Adams, right on time."
"I'm very punctual." As they spoke, the two had already walked inside, and the waiter handed them the activity menu.
The prices were different for just dining versus participating in activities.
Just dining was the price of a meal. Participating in activities meant you could fish, catch chickens, collect eggs, and pick fruit here.
Of course, Nora wanted to choose just dining - cheaper and quicker.
But Andrew was the guest today. She handed him the menu, "Mr. Hayes, take a look at which one you'd like."
Andrew glanced at it. Dining for two was $88.
Participating in all activities was $288.
Andrew deliberately pointed at the most expensive option, "Let's go with this one."
Nora looked at it and almost couldn't keep her composure.
For someone like Nora who'd done farm work since childhood, she really had no interest in this. Making you do farm work and charging $288 - she felt like they were basically ripping people off!
But since Andrew wanted to experience it, Nora could only pay obediently.
She said with a smile, "If I'd known, I should have invited Mr. Wood to join us."
Andrew thought to himself, No way.
If Duke came along, she'd spend all her attention trying to please Duke and probably wouldn't even bother with him.
"There'll be opportunities." Andrew smiled in response, "Come on, let's go have some fun."
"Okay." Nora was here to keep Andrew company today. She turned to get fishing equipment, "Mr. Hayes, should we go fishing first?"
The waiter said with a smile, "Any fish you catch can be cooked here on the spot, or you can take them home."
"Okay." Nora walked back and handed Andrew his fishing equipment.
But he didn't want it. He came here today to mess with her.
Andrew said with a smirk, "Let's catch chickens first, we'll fish later."
Nora didn't think much of it and nodded, "Alright."
The two went to the chicken farm, where hundreds of chickens were running around - a sight that made your scalp tingle.
Andrew backed off right away. He grew up in the city - when had he ever seen so many chickens squawking like this?
He looked disgusted and even took a step back.
Nora could tell he was scared and said with a smile, "Mr. Hayes, are you afraid of chickens?"
He was pretty scared, so he assumed Nora would be too. Suppressing his discomfort, he pointed at one of the chickens, "That one. Ms. Adams, you go catch it."
Nora paused, pointing at herself, "I go down and catch it?"
"That's right, you." Andrew saw her look of disbelief and felt a bit satisfied, "What, you don't dare?"
"It's not that I don't dare, I just don't have the right clothes." She was worried about getting dirty with nothing to change into.
"Borrow from the chicken farm people." Andrew insisted on getting her into the chicken farm, wanting to make her look foolish.
For the sake of the job, Nora had to meet his demands.
She put on the chicken farm clothes and walked into the pen, standing still.
"What are you spacing out for?" Andrew saw her not moving and thought she was scared, breaking into a smile.
"Mr. Hayes, which chicken did you say you wanted again?" Nora had forgotten which one.
"That one!" Andrew randomly pointed at one, holding up his phone, wanting to capture an embarrassing photo of Nora being scared by chickens.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Nora grabbed that chicken, her movements swift and calm.
Andrew was stunned.
Oh my God!
She's not afraid of chickens.
He miscalculated!
He had his phone ready, but didn't get a single embarrassing photo!
She caught the chicken in two minutes, handed it to the farm owner, and had him send it to the kitchen to be stewed for dinner.
Andrew looked bored and pointed toward the chicken coop, "I also want eggs, go get two."
There were a bunch of hens in the coop, looking quite scary.
Of course, that was to Andrew.
Nora had no reaction. She walked over and patted the hens with her gloved hand, "Move aside, I'm taking two eggs."
She skillfully shooed away the hens and successfully retrieved eggs from the nest.
Andrew couldn't help frowning.
Why didn't the hens peck at her?
Their eggs were being taken, and they weren't even angry?
This confusion remained even as Nora came out, looking at him pleasantly, and he still didn't understand.
"Mr. Hayes, all done. Do you need anything else?" She smiled, her pretty face looking very friendly.
Andrew saw she wasn't scared at all and found it boring, his expression dropping unhappily.
As the two walked out, Nora felt a bit worried.
Nora didn't know why he was unhappy when she'd done everything he asked - catching chickens and collecting eggs.
"Let's go pick peaches." Passing a peach orchard, Andrew suddenly spoke up.
Those peach trees were planted on a slope that looked hard to walk on.
Andrew wanted to vent.
He just wanted to see her fall.
Nora still had no objections and went to get rain boots, scissors, and a small bucket from the orchard owner.
She climbed up the slope. The path was difficult - the mud was soft, and each step sank down. Sometimes her feet got stuck in the mud and couldn't be pulled out.
Andrew saw her struggling and finally felt happy, laughing out loud.
Nora looked back at him.
Afraid she'd stop, he said with a stern face, "Hurry up and pick!"
Nora felt like Andrew was deliberately making things difficult for her.
But since she was already here, there was no reason to give up halfway.
She pulled her foot from the wet mud, backed up a few steps, took a running start, and actually made it!
Andrew was somewhat surprised.
She stood at the top of the slope and turned back, a triumphant smile on her face.
Andrew was amazed by her beauty.
Nora skillfully cut the peaches and came back soon with a full small bucket, asking him, "Is this enough?"
Andrew's face darkened, "Enough."
Boring!
She's not afraid of anything!
Coming here today was a mistake - no fun at all!
Meanwhile.
Steven had nothing to do on the weekend.
He'd spent the past two weekends with Nora, and not being together today, he suddenly felt a bit unaccustomed.
He picked up a book to read but couldn't focus, irritably tossing it aside.
After thinking, he called Alton, "Alton, want to play tennis?"
"I'm busy." Alton was dealing with Olivia's situation.
Steven rarely extended invitations, and to be rejected made his expression darken.
He called Chris instead.
Chris was free, but he was taking his girlfriend to play tennis. "I'm going on a date, are you sure you want to come?"
Actually, Chris hoped Steven would decline.
But Steven said, "Yes, I'll come."
He just wanted somewhere to go right now.
Chris was very surprised, "Didn't expect you to be okay with being a third wheel. What's wrong with you? Did you fight with your wife? Lonely?"
"None of your business." Steven didn't want to talk about Nora, that fickle woman - what was there to mention about her.
