Chapter 110 Nora Admires Her Husband
Nora waited anxiously at the hospital.
To avoid disturbing Olivia, the two sat in the hallway.
Steven took her hand. "How's Olivia doing?"
"Same as before. She cried all day today—cried when she woke up, slept when she got tired..." Nora's cold hand was held by Steven, her expression gloomy.
Having Steven by her side at a time like this really moved her.
All these years, she'd been carrying everything alone. Now with Steven, she finally had someone to lean on.
At first, Nora thought it was unlikely Tanner would get bail.
But when Alton showed up with Tanner in front of Nora, she was completely shocked.
Were Steven and his people... a bit too capable?
It seemed like no matter what happened, as long as he stepped in, everything got solved easily.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Bridges!" Nora thanked Alton first. As for Steven, she'd thank him properly in private later.
Alton smiled. "It's nothing. How's Olivia doing now?"
"She's asleep."
Alton didn't say anything more. From Nora's expression, he could tell Olivia wasn't doing well, so he tactfully didn't ask further.
Nora noticed some blood drops on Tanner's clothes and asked, "Tanner, are you hurt?"
"I'm fine. But that bastard Willie—I beat him black and blue." Tanner didn't regret hitting Willie.
For a man to be that blindly devoted to his parents, he deserved a beating, or he'd think the Adams family had no one to stand up for them.
Tanner's gaze fell on Steven and Alton.
When Alton came to bail him out earlier, Tanner thought he had a strong presence. Now seeing Steven, he felt even more intimidated.
Nora introduced them: "Tanner, this is Steven, my husband. Mr. Bridges is Steven's friend. Steven asked Mr. Bridges to bail you out just now."
"So you're Steven." Tanner had heard Marcella mention that Steven was Nora's husband—that he was really good-looking and had a great presence. That day, he visited their home, he even bought Lily several outfits.
Today, he got a lawyer to bail him out of the police station. Not only was he kind and capable, but also handsome...
Tanner genuinely liked and admired Nora's husband.
"Tanner." Steven nodded slightly, polite but distant.
Though he seemed a bit aloof, Tanner really liked him and thought he was way better than that jerk Willie.
Tanner said to Nora, "Your husband's great, way better than Willie."
Hearing Tanner praise him to his face, Nora blushed a little.
She sneaked a glance at Steven.
Steven still had that calm, indifferent look, but you could tell he was in a pretty good mood.
It was already past midnight, and everyone needed to go home.
Alton offered to drive Tanner back.
Tanner nodded, also being polite to Alton. "Mr. Bridges, thank you so much for tonight. You're really thoughtful!"
Tanner thought this educated man looked especially sharp and impressive.
Alton smiled warmly. "I also feel we really click. That Steven of yours really deserved that beating."
"Exactly!" Tanner got angry just thinking about Willie. "He's total trash! My biggest regret is not stopping my sister from marrying him. She's been bullied by his family until she's worth nothing."
"Ms. Adams was bullied badly by his family?" Alton seemed quite interested in hearing more.
Tanner felt like he'd found a kindred spirit and started telling Alton about the Reed family.
Alton drove while listening carefully...
Meanwhile.
Nora walked Steven down to the hospital entrance.
They stood face to face. Nora quietly looked at her husband, her heart full of admiration at that moment.
If he hadn't come, she really couldn't have handled this. After all, she didn't have any lawyer friends. With Tanner bailed out, Nora felt relieved.
Steven couldn't figure out what she was thinking. He just felt her gaze was intense. Had she figured something out?
Steven felt a bit guilty and flicked her nose. "What are you looking at?"
He broke the silence.
Nora snapped back to reality and smiled. "I just think you're amazing. You can solve anything, like you're my magic lamp."
Steven raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Then how are you going to thank your magic lamp?"
Hearing this, Nora knew he was asking for a reward.
She smiled, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed the corner of his lips. "Thank you for tonight."
Steven's lips curved up. "Actually, I think Tanner did the right thing."
He actually said Tanner did well?
Nora paused and looked up.
Steven looked at her. "Someone like Willie deserves to be beaten."
Being watched by him, Nora suddenly smiled, and all the gloom in her heart was swept away. "Right, I also think Tanner did the right thing. He was just a bit impulsive. He should have handled it more carefully."
"How so?" He wanted to hear her thoughts.
"He should have found some thugs to give him trouble on his way home from work. That way, he wouldn't get into criminal trouble." Nora said, "But since Tanner just beat him up today, we can't arrange for people to bother Willie anytime soon, or he'll get suspicious."
"You're pretty smart." Steven praised Nora while quietly watching her profile.
Nora felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze and turned her head away. "Alright, it's really late. You should go. I need to get back to Olivia's room."
"Okay, call me if you need anything." Steven got in his car, looked at Nora one more time, then drove away.
Three days later.
Olivia's health had improved a lot. She wasn't crying as much anymore and had learned about Tanner going to beat up Willie for her.
Olivia was touched, but still sent Tanner a message: "Tanner, don't go looking for trouble with Willie anymore. You have to support Mom and Dad, plus two kids. Don't be impulsive. I'll handle this myself. You guys don't need to worry too much about me."
After sending it, Olivia looked at Nora.
Nora was pouring soup for Olivia.
Olivia felt comforted. At least she still had a good brother and a good sister.
Olivia grabbed Nora's hand. "You too, don't act rashly and go cause them trouble, or you might fall into their trap. I know how to handle this."
"Olivia, do you already have a plan?" Nora asked her.
"Yes, I've just been too weak these past few days to deal with it."
Hearing Olivia say this, Nora felt relieved. She could clearly sense that Olivia's mindset had improved a lot. Everything was getting better.
On the fourth night of Olivia's hospital stay, Willie finally showed up.
He had filed a police report, planning to wait for Olivia to humble herself and contact him, sweet-talk him a bit, then he'd let Tanner go. Who knew Olivia never contacted him? Willie still didn't know that Tanner had already been bailed out.
Nora was having dinner with Olivia in the hospital room when she saw Willie walk in carrying a fruit basket. She glared at him coldly.
Knowing Olivia had just had surgery not long ago, what was the point of buying fruit?
If he really cared, he should have at least brought a pot of chicken soup!
And he hadn't come these past few days. If Nora hadn't been at the hospital, would Olivia have just been left here with no one to care for her?
