Chapter 108 Causes of Miscarriage
He had offered his help before, asking Olivia if she needed a lawyer. He probably wanted to help her.
Nora was surprised, "You mean that Alton who came to our house for dinner?"
"Yes, that's him." Steven nodded.
How come all his friends were so impressive?
They all had careers that ordinary people rarely encountered.
And they were all rich kids.
Nora thought for a moment, "If we need help later, can we ask him for advice?"
"Sure." Steven agreed, "If you need anything, just tell me, and I'll pass it along."
"Okay."
While talking, they arrived at the hospital.
Nora got out of the car and asked Steven, "Are you heading to the office now?"
"Yes." Steven nodded, "I'll come find you tonight."
"Okay."
Nora waved goodbye to him and carried the soup into the hospital.
When she pushed open the hospital room door, Olivia was already awake, lying in bed on an IV drip, her whole face deathly pale.
Her belly was flat.
The baby was gone.
Olivia's heart had died too. She lay there silently, her eyes vacant.
Seeing this, Nora's eyes immediately turned red.
She still remembered how hard Olivia had worked to get pregnant, and now... the baby was gone.
Although they saved her uterus this time, it would be very difficult for her to get pregnant again.
"Olivia." Nora forced herself to stay calm as she walked over.
As soon as Olivia saw Nora, her calm eyes rippled with emotion, and she began to cry.
The entire hospital room was filled with heartbreaking sobs.
Nora didn't know what to do, so she just cried along with Olivia.
The two sisters held hands and cried for a long, long time.
Worried about Olivia's eyes, Nora took a tissue to wipe her tears, "Olivia, stop crying. You just had surgery, crying like this is bad for your eyes. Please stop crying."
She was also afraid Olivia might become depressed.
Losing a child was extremely painful for any mother.
Olivia's face was covered in tears. "Last night, Willie said if we didn't want to stay together, we should call mom and dad over, and everyone could talk things through."
"So I called mom and dad. Mom said she was too busy taking care of Jasmine and Lily to come. I asked Dad to come, and he said he didn't have time. But then I heard the sound of people playing cards in the background. He'd rather play cards than come stand up for me."
Olivia's heart felt like it was being cut with a knife, "But the Reed family? All their relatives showed up. A whole group of people surrounded me, blaming me for everything. They said Willie works so hard, and I'm just a housewife; there's no need to make a big deal out of small things. They also said I have a bad temper, that I'm extreme and aggressive, and that I constantly stress Eleanor out and raise her blood pressure."
"At that moment, with all those people surrounding me and talking at me, it felt so noisy, the air felt so stuffy, I felt like I couldn't breathe..."
Listening to Olivia's words, Nora could imagine how suffocating that scene must have been.
More than ten people surrounding one person and criticizing her - what a devastating situation.
"Later... my belly started contracting again. I didn't want to talk to them anymore. I wanted to go back to my room and lie down. But when I stood up, someone pushed me from behind. I lost my balance and fell to the ground."
At this point, Olivia couldn't continue.
She would never forget that night.
She landed on her belly, and bright red blood gushed out from between her legs.
The pain made her whole body tremble.
She called for Willie, calling several times before he finally ran out of the room.
Yes, after bringing her home, he left her in the living room to face a group of gossiping relatives alone while he went back to his room to avoid the trouble.
After that, Olivia was in so much pain that she became delirious. She heard the sound of an ambulance...
She looked at Nora, her eyes bloodshot, "Nora, just last week I saw my baby in the 4D ultrasound - eyes, nose, mouth, even covering their eyes with their little hands. So alive, so amazing. But in the blink of an eye, my baby is gone."
"Chris said my baby was only 31 weeks, had respiratory failure, and couldn't survive." Olivia gasped in pain. Chris was a good doctor who kept encouraging her last night and stayed with her in the ICU for a long time today.
If Chris hadn't encouraged her, she might not have wanted to live anymore.
The baby was gone.
All she had left inside was pain. She didn't want to live.
But when she thought about how her child died so unjustly, she couldn't swallow this anger.
She felt such hatred!
She told herself she had to at least hold on until she got justice for her child before she could let go...
"Olivia." Nora gripped Olivia's hand tightly. If she weren't lying in bed right now, Nora really wanted to hug her.
Olivia choked with sobs.
After who knows how long, Olivia cried herself to sleep.
Nora wiped away Olivia's tears, her own eyes stinging, her heart heavy.
Once Olivia fell asleep, she left the hospital room.
Nora sat in the corridor.
She sat in silence.
From what Olivia had just said, she learned that Olivia had been pushed down. As for who pushed her, that was still unknown...
She sat there for who knows how long. Outside, the sky grew dark. Her phone rang in her bag.
Nora snapped back to reality and took out her phone. Steven's name flashed on the screen.
"Hello," Nora answered.
"How's Olivia doing?" Steven asked.
"She woke up earlier, cried for a while, and now she's asleep again."
"Can you come downstairs?"
"Yes." She had nothing to do right now.
Nora took the elevator down.
Steven was waiting for her in the pharmacy area on the first floor.
There were several rows of waiting chairs there. Nora walked over. Steven was sitting in the last row, wearing a white mask.
On the chair next to him was a large insulated bag.
She hadn't expected him to come deliver food.
Nora's heart warmed as she walked over, "Steven."
"I figured you wouldn't go home, so I had some dishes sent over for you both." He had a restaurant prepare the food.
Nora checked the time and realized it was already past 7 PM.
"Have you eaten yet?" Nora asked him while checking the food in the insulated bag. Everything was light and healthy, and there was also a pot of soup - all things Olivia could eat.
Steven said, "Not yet. I'll head back after dropping this off for you. I have to work late tonight."
The company had endless work to do.
He had originally wanted to come see Olivia and check on Nora, but since Nora said Olivia was sleeping, he didn't go up to disturb them.
"That busy?" Nora glanced at him, "If you have to work late, why did you come all this way? I could have just gone out to buy food myself."
"I was worried about you." Steven looked at her. She was wearing a mask, and the corners of her eyes were still red.
She must have cried for a long time.
Steven removed her mask.
Sure enough, her nose was also bright red. He softened his voice, "Cried for a long time?"
"Yes." She felt a bit embarrassed and covered her nose, putting the mask back on, "I cried along with Olivia."
Steven could imagine - their relationship was very close to begin with.
Steven felt an indescribable tenderness. He reached out with his long arm and pulled her into his embrace.
