Chapter 307 That’s Right, Marriage to Me Has Only Endurance Left
Chapter 307 That’s Right, Marriage to Me Has Only Endurance Left
Nora felt deeply exhausted inside. In the end, she just went along with him and saw the doctor.
The doctor was a bit speechless - this little burn would be fine by tonight!
But since Steven was a shareholder of the hospital, the doctor could only smile apologetically and say, "Mrs. York is fine, just a little burn. It'll probably be better tonight or tomorrow."
Steven glanced at Nora.
Nora looked impatient - she'd already told him it was nothing, but he insisted on coming to the hospital and wasting resources. Making such a big deal out of nothing!
Back home, Nora tiredly changed into her pajamas.
She'd gotten up early to bake a cake, fought with Vivian, and was now completely exhausted.
She thought she could rest for a few days, but it turned out to be more tiring than going to work.
Halfway through changing, Steven walked in. Seeing her pull down her nightgown, his eyes darkened. "Throw away that outfit."
It was the clothes Louis had given her.
Nora's spine stiffened. She answered coldly, "These are the Bennett family's clothes. I need to dry clean them and return them."
They were designer clothes - Nora wouldn't just throw them away.
"Dry clean them and return them - so you're planning to see him again?" Steven's face was mocking.
Nora frowned, her tone turning cold. "I already told you, today's incident was a conflict between Vivian and me. Louis was helping me solve the problem."
"Yeah, he's already started helping you solve problems." Steven looked at her back and said coolly, "Next time you're moved, are you going to sleep with him?"
Nora thought he was being completely unreasonable.
She'd told him the whole truth, but he still didn't believe her.
Finally, she pressed her lips together and just said, "I've said what I needed to say. Think whatever you want."
With that, she walked toward the bed.
Steven grabbed her hand, his handsome face now covered in gloom. "Didn't I tell you to call me if someone bullies you?"
He suddenly lost his temper.
He'd told her to come to him if anything happened, yet she went to Louis for help?
Wasn't she deliberately trying to upset him?
Nora's hand was gripped tightly. She frowned and looked at his face. "I can handle my own problems. I don't need your help."
She didn't want to owe Steven anything.
Since she'd decided to move toward divorce, she wouldn't rely on Steven's background and resources anymore.
Otherwise, the more she owed, the harder it would be to repay.
In the past, Steven had helped her a lot.
So she still felt some gratitude toward him. If they could part amicably, she naturally hoped for a peaceful resolution.
"So you're throwing a tantrum with me now?" A cold laugh escaped Steven's thin lips.
"I'm not throwing a tantrum. I just don't want your help anymore."
Steven looked down at her. "Tell me, what exactly do you want?"
"I don't want anything."
"You don't want anything, yet why have you been wearing that sour face all day? He sent you cake yesterday, you sent him cake today. Things have gotten to this point, and you're unhappy when I ask you a couple questions?"
Nora let out a long sigh and closed her eyes. "I don't want to argue with you about these meaningless topics anymore. All I want is a peaceful divorce."
"Did you just ignore everything I said to you yesterday?" Steven stepped closer, his eyes dark.
Nora lowered her gaze and said quietly, "If you don't want a divorce, then let's just continue like this. But I hope you understand that from now on, I won't depend on you anymore. I'll find my own ways to solve my problems. Who I see or who I go out with - you can ask me if you want to know, but please control your emotions. Don't lose your temper randomly. Please respect me. I'm an independent person too."
Steven laughed. "You mean I can't interfere in your business, and when you go out with someone, I can only ask but can't be unhappy about it?"
"Isn't that better? It's more convenient for you too. If you want to see Scarlett, go see Scarlett. Whatever happens between you two in the future, I won't ask or care. And I hope you'll stay out of my business too."
"So being with me now, you're just enduring it?"
"Pretty much. We can't get divorced anyway." Nora couldn't help but speak the truth.
As those words fell, Steven's pale eyes seemed ready to seep ink, and he said ominously, "Say that again?"
"You already understand what I mean. Why do you need me to say it again? What's the point?"
Steven's face had no warmth.
She'd said "enduring."
Steven just felt it was ironic.
The woman who once said she loved him, whose eyes were full of admiration for him, was now saying that being with him was just endurance.
Steven laughed mockingly, turned around, and left Riverside Apartment, his figure carrying endless coldness.
Nora watched his departing back, her eyes dimming.
But she told herself she hadn't done anything wrong.
That's how it would be - adjust her mindset, give up expectations, withdraw all feelings, and be cold to the end.
That's how women are - before making up their minds, they're always soft-hearted.
Once they've decided, they'll grit their teeth and move forward.
So when a woman no longer cares whether her husband meets other women, no longer cares whether he comes home at night, it means she's given up on loving that man...
Nora didn't sleep very well that night.
Although she wanted to move toward divorce, when she woke up, she felt deeply lonely.
It was like she couldn't feel happy anymore.
She started thinking - if they divorced, how would she live her future life?
After getting used to having someone by her side, returning to being single was actually quite difficult, even confusing.
It was like... a thick black fog appeared before her eyes, making her feel afraid and want to retreat.
Could she get used to living alone again?
After the divorce, she'd face gossip from everyone around her. By then, her parents' home wouldn't be a place she could return to either.
She would truly be alone.
Nora lowered her gaze.
People are complicated - when in pain and suffering, they want to leave, but when it really comes to that point, they start to miss and feel reluctant.
While making breakfast, Nora unconsciously zoned out again.
Divorce really was an emotional black hole.
It would drag a person's thoughts in at any moment. Sometimes it wasn't about thinking about anything specific - she'd just space out unconsciously.
Her phone rang.
She took it out and saw it was Aria calling. "Nora, can I treat you to dinner today?"
"What?" Nora looked confused. "Why treat me to dinner?"
"About what happened with Vivian last night, I want to apologize to you. Also, I'm going back to Thalassia tomorrow, and I want to see you before I leave."
Nora hadn't expected Aria to be leaving so soon.
She felt a bit reluctant. "Okay, let's meet."
She was in a bad mood anyway - going out might help.
The place Aria asked to meet was a resort with beautiful scenery.
Thinking that Aria was leaving tomorrow, Nora made some cakes by hand, planning to eat them while chatting later.
She drove to the resort and found a parking spot. Just as she was about to pull in, a Maserati cut in front of her.
Nora looked closely - it was Steven's car.
Nora pressed her lips together, feeling a bit speechless.
How did she run into him again?
Steven and James got out of the car. The tall man wore an expensive suit, his eyes pale and calm.
He seemed to have noticed Nora's car too and looked her way.
Nora didn't get out of the car. She gripped the steering wheel, making eye contact with him from a distance.
"Mr. York, that's Mrs. York's car," James reminded Steven.
Steven's refined face showed no warmth. He walked around the car and opened the door on the other side.
A delicate, fragile woman got out - it was Scarlett.
Nora's face went pale in an instant, then she laughed.
Sick like that, and still able to come out and play?
So it was all an act. Otherwise, how could she be fine at the York family on New Year's Eve, nearly dying on the second and third days, then able to go out again on the fourth day?
What great acting skills.
"Isn't that Nora?" Scarlett noticed Nora's car.
"Yes." Steven didn't even glance at Nora, just acknowledged it.
Nora had wanted to drive away, but a car across from her happened to leave, so Nora pulled into that parking spot.
Parking spots at the resort during the holidays were hard to find.
She got out carrying her cakes.
"It really is you, Nora." Scarlett walked over, looking surprised. "Steven is over there. Want to join us?"
"Do we seem that close?" Nora didn't even bother looking at her.
"After all, we're family." Scarlett's expression was gentle, playing the role of a good sister-in-law.
"Family?" How dare Scarlett say that. Nora smiled. "Would family try to ruin my relationship and take my husband for themselves?"
Although she wanted a divorce, she was still annoyed by what Scarlett was doing.
If she were really that seriously ill, maybe Nora wouldn't blame her. But today's encounter made Nora understand - Scarlett was just pretending.
She couldn't possibly be nice to a woman trying to seduce her husband.
Scarlett froze, her face looking sad. "Nora, you really misunderstand me. I never wanted to ruin your marriage."
"Enough, shut up." Nora walked away.
Scarlett returned to Steven's side, her voice gentle. "Sorry, Steven. I tried to explain to Nora, but she wouldn't listen."
"Who told you to explain?" Steven gave her a cold glance.
Scarlett said gently, "Yesterday morning, didn't you say you wanted me to explain things to Nora? I don't want you two fighting because of me. After all, there really is nothing between us. You're just helping me. Nora shouldn't doubt you..."
Steven glanced at her, his eyes gloomy.
Scarlett continued, "I know what kind of person you are. You would never do anything half-hearted. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't doubt you."
Steven snorted coldly and walked away.
"Steven, wait for me." Scarlett caught up with Steven. "Thank you for coming to the resort with me today to find Theo."
"Let's go." Steven's expression softened slightly. "You're his wife. You're sick - he should take responsibility for you."
It was Scarlett who insisted on coming to the hotel to find Theo.
When Steven disagreed, she threatened to drive herself away from the hospital.
Steven was afraid she'd get emotional and have an accident, so he brought her.
After walking a few steps, Nora ran into Louis, who was waiting for her at the resort entrance. Louis wore a light-colored shirt, his features gentle.
"What are you doing here?" Nora was surprised.
"My mom was afraid you couldn't find your way, so she asked me to wait for you at the entrance." Louis had one hand in his pocket, looking refined.
Nora smiled. "Let's go then."
