Chapter 157 CHAPTER 157

JACK

“Oh my God,” she whispered, eyes wandering everywhere in the open space. “It hadn’t changed one bit since the last time.” I smiled softly at her, guiding her steps to our seat and helping her settle in her chair before I sank into mine.

“Jack, there’s no one here.” She said, her eyes roaming once more across the vast behemoth of the restaurant.

“Exactly baby.” My eyes shot up to hers, smiling on a swift wink. “The owner owed me a favour, I cashed in. You look too beautiful for any man to gawk at. You belong only to me.”

Her hands moved quickly to her face, her palms closing in underneath her eyes. Astonishment evident on those lovely features, then came the gentle roll of tears down her face when she momentarily dropped those gorgeous fingers of hers. If you asked me, I’d say giving birth had only made her even more breathtaking.

“Jesus, Jack…” she trailed, her hands slowly slipping down her profile. “Are you… are you recreating the proposal from last time?”

I smirked, gazing stupidly at her. “Allow the moment to unfold, woman.” She laughed through the tears, inhaling deeply on a satisfied pull of breath.

Nostalgia was going to make this a fucking memory to hold on to forever.

I was fucking elated she was reliving every emotion she’d once felt. But a knot of anxiety tightened in my chest all the same. What if she got cold feet again? I’d tried to propose more times than I could count since the babies were born, and she’d always found one excuse after another to brush it aside.

And though my intentions towards her were never going to change, my devotion never going to falter, my love never going to die, a small part of her still struggled to believe any of this was real. She feared that one day I’d leave her, and considering my past, I understood why. But she also knew she could trust me with her life. She knew I was nothing without her, and there wasn’t a world in which I could survive without her by my side—a world in which my life was worth living if she wasn’t in it.

That much was abundantly clear.

I made a racket scraping my seat backwards, earning me enough space to wriggle myself free to Robin’s side. Her hand clamped around her mouth, her eyes watering.

I went on one knee…

“Oh God,” She breathed, trying to bring down her hand but soon, they went up on her face. Her hand just couldn’t stay still, didn’t know what to do with it.

“Robin…”

“Oh, Jesus.” Her voice broke, her trembling hand trying to wipe her eyes dry but the relentless tears kept coming.

“Before I met you, I never saw myself settling down with anyone, I knew I wasn’t worthy of being a husband, let alone a father. Then you walked into my life and distorted everything, you came into my life and turned my world upside down.” She laughed softly, her teary eyes cemented on my face. “In a good way, I must add. You made me feel alive, whole, better. Worthy of becoming the man I’d never believed I could ever be—for you. You made me a father. You were my angel, I was the devil, a combination that should’ve been rationally impossible to achieve, to explain or to even understand but you made it possible. You derailed my whole being, made me question everything I thought I knew or wanted and infiltrated my thoughts, consuming me day… and night.”

“Oh, Jack.” Her lips quivered, my thumb reaching across her face and smudging her makeup, while gently wiping away the tears pooling beneath her eyes. “You memorised it?”

“I did, and added a few.” I smiled. “Every word I spoke was true then and it’s truer now.” I held her gaze.

“You make me a complete man, Robin. I can’t stress this enough. And I don’t know if you’ve realised but… I don’t know how to function without you.” I slowly pulled open the ring box, a soft gasp escaping her lips.

“Marry me.”

“Yes. Yes. Yes!” She squealed in excitement, joining me down and surrounding me in her arms. My heart pounding so fast I could hear the drumming sound—she’d finally accepted me.

I hiked up her dress to the thigh, straddling her legs around my waist and pulling us up, my hands gripping her backside. I looked into her eyes, exquisite browns staring back at me. I leaned forward, running a deliciously wet tongue across her bottom lip, trampling on her no-kissing rule, and enticing a quiet moan from her. I pushed my mouth into hers, my tongue seeking entry, encouraging her acceptance. Our tongues started a slow dance, maintaining our fluid movement of swirling and lapping in each other’s mouths before I picked up speed, nudging her deeper into my mouth and consuming every inch of her senses, saturating her with the warmth of my tongue. She hummed, following my increasing pace. Her body shifted, and I only knew hell was breaking loose in her knickers, her heat surging. I slowly withdrew my tongue, before plunging deeper into mouth.

“Jack, we’re outside.” She breathed. I dragged her bottom lip through my teeth, refusing to let go.

“We have the whole place to ourselves.” I whispered, doing another swirl of my tongue in her mouth. I could never stop kissing her.

“I’d like you to have me in our bed.” She mumbled on my lips, her voice drank with lust.

“Okay.”

“I love you, my Lord.” She grinned, pulling her hand up to inspect her ring. She loved it, as she should.

It had been commissioned to perfection, fashioned from some of the rarest gem-grade diamonds on Earth and designed exclusively for her. There would never be another ring like it. I’d made sure of that.

I took her hand, kissing each of her knuckles playfully before locking eyes with her.

“I prefer God,” I shot up a brow, a quiet laugh breaking free from my lips.

“You’re that too.” She assured, circling her nose around mine. I dipped, snatching up her bag before making our way out of the restaurant she had no idea I owned.

“And you’re my stubborn lady. My life. My reason to breathe.” I murmured, dragging a long pull of breath before kissing her nose. Today was, without question, the best day of my whole fucking existence.
