Chapter 94 Suppressed Echoes
Chapter 94 Suppressed Echoes
~Elowen's POV~
The next morning came sharp and clear, the light cutting through the lingering haze of the previous night's chaos.
I led the two Alphas' straight into the Second World rift.
Alaric was on my left, his jaw set in grim determination. Whilst Sylion was on my right, his silver-streaked hair catching the strange violet glow.
Both of them were tense and ready for whatever waited beyond.
The Second World wilds stretched ahead, twisted trees with bark like blackened bone and floating stone paths that shifted underfoot beneath a bruised violet sky that seemed to pulse with malevolent life.
"Stay close," I said as we stepped through the unstable threshold.
"The net suppressing his wings will weaken near the edges. We find him fast, free him, and get out before Valerian's forces fully mobilize."
The both of them nodded without a word and we moved through the wilds with careful silence, boots treading lightly on the ever-shifting ground.
Cages appeared along the path with crude iron structures... holding captives with wings pinned down by glowing nets, their faces pale and hopeless, eyes hollow from days of torment.
I raised my hand, stopping the group. "Free them, every one we can. They deserve a chance to run."
Alaric tore through the first net with raw, brute strength, his muscles straining as the glowing mesh shattered under his grip.
Sylion sliced another with precise cuts from his blade, the steel singing through the air.
The freed captives staggered out, whispering broken thanks as they ran for the exit rift we had left open behind us.
Then my boy's presence brushed my mind... weak but unmistakably there. He sensed me the moment our auras touched.
"Mama," his voice echoed faintly through the link, strained but filled with hope. "I'm breaking it, the net is cracking. I can feel you."
A surge of power rippled ahead, visible as a ripple in the violet air.
The suppressing net around him flickered and sparked. He burst upward suddenly, wings beating hard against the resistance, flying toward us in unsteady, desperate arcs.
"Keep going!" I shouted, my heart pounding as I watched his struggling form. "We're right behind you! Don't stop!"
He reached us at last, landing shaky but free, knees buckling slightly as his feet touched the ground.
I pulled him close for one fierce heartbeat, feeling the rapid beat of his heart against mine.
Then we turned and ran for the exit rift together, the boy's new wings half-unfolded for balance.
But Valerian's forces were already stirring behind us... shouts and the heavy thud of boots echoing through the twisted trees as alarms began to wail in the distance.

~Valerian's POV~
Night fell heavy and absolute over the Second World, the bruised sky deepening to near-black.
I tracked the escapees through the wilds, their trail easy to follow with broken nets, scattered footprints, and the faint scent of fear and hope in the air.
The triad had freed too many captives, but that only fed the chaos I needed to fuel the gate's awakening.
I suddenly cornered them at the World nexus... a glowing convergence of raw energy where multiple paths met in a wide, circular clearing.
Alaric, Sylion, Elowen, and the boy stood ready, backs to the pulsing light, forming a protective wall around the child.
"Elowen," I called out, voice smooth and almost affectionate as I stepped into the open.
"This chase grows tiresome. Yield the children to me and in return, I offer you eternal youth. No more aging and watching them grow while you fade into dust. Rule beside me as my equal in the new world we will build."
She stepped forward, eyes hard as flint, power already crackling at her fingertips.
"I would never trade them for anything! Not youth, power, or even you! They are not bargaining chips, and neither am I."
"That's a shame." I smiled, slow and predatory. "Such noble sentiment in a world that rewards only the ruthless."
She then activated the nexus trap with a quick, decisive gesture... ancient runes flaring bright under my feet.
Energy surged upward in a violent column, meant to drain and age me rapidly.
My skin tightened painfully, wrinkles formed at the corners of my eyes and along my neck. Gray touched my temples in streaks.
"Clever," I hissed, fighting the pull with every ounce of my ancient will. "But traps always bite back, my dear!" I roared.
The energy rebounded hard, the runes reversing their flow in a blinding flash of violet light...

~Elowen's POV~
The trap rebounded in a violent flash that lit the entire nexus like lightning. I felt it hit me like cold fire racing through my veins.
My skin prickled and tightened, lines appeared around my eyes and mouth in seconds.
Maturity settled where youthful smoothness had been, new wisdom and new weight etched into my face in an instant.
I quickly caught my reflection in a shard of floating crystal nearby.
The face staring back showed a woman who had lived through fire and loss, older now, stronger in ways that only hardship could forge.
But the boy stepped forward without hesitation, wings flaring wide.
He absorbed the rest of the rebounding energy, pulling it into himself with a cry of effort. His body surged again, growing taller and stronger in moments.
In seconds, he reached twelve years old, frame filled out with lean muscle, face sharpening into the promise of the man he would become.
His eyes burned with full hybrid power... gold, crimson, and something new, a deeper violet spark at the center.
He stood steady now, wings spread wide, power crackling around him like living lightning that danced along his feathers.
"Mama," he said, voice deeper and steadier than before. "I've got this, let me help you."
The words filled me with both pride and terror as the nexus pulsed violently around us.
Valerian staggered back, his own aging reversed but his expression twisted with fury.
Alaric and Sylion moved to flank the boy, their own scars glowing in response to the unleashed energy.
The Second World itself seemed to hold its breath, waiting to see which side would break first in the heart of the storm we had all helped create...
