Chapter 191 Finding Kira

Chapter 191 Finding Kira
IVY’S POV
"Kira isn't missing," Adam said. "I have her."
The admission fell like a bomb even though we knew already..
"You what?" Elena demanded.
"I took her six months ago," Adam explained. "The Preservation Alliance was hunting her. I realized they had leads on her location, the same way they found Lucas. So I got to her first."
"You kidnapped her," Damon said flatly.
"I saved her," Adam corrected. "She's been safe. Protected. But yes, essentially imprisoned because I couldn't risk the Alliance finding her."
He pulled up coordinates on a display.
"Northern Canada. Near the Alaska border. I have a research facility there. It’s small, off-grid, and equipped for genetic work. Kira's been there for six months."
“He's been experimenting on her,” my wolf snarled.
But Adam shook his head like he'd heard the thought.
"I haven't touched her. Just kept her safe while I worked on the cure. She knows why she's there. She agreed to wait."
"A fourteen-year-old agreed to imprisonment?" I asked skeptically.
"A fourteen-year-old agreed to temporary isolation if it meant survival," Adam said. "She's showing symptoms. The degradation is visible, the weight loss, fatigue, cellular breakdown. She knows she's dying."
Elena stood abruptly. "I'm coming with you. To get her. To see both my children."
"Elena…" I started.
"They're all my children, whether I gave birth to all of them or not." she interrupted. "I lost them fifteen years ago. I'm not losing them again."

We organized the extraction within hours. Small team; me, Damon, Marcus, Elena, and Adam to guide us. The flight to northern Canada took most of the day. The coordinates led to a remote wilderness, accessible only by small aircraft landing on improvised strips.
Adam's facility appeared gradually through the trees. It’s a small research station, well-camouflaged, completely isolated.
"I built this five years ago," Adam explained as we approached. "After I faked my death as Adrian Voss. Needed a place to work without Council oversight."
Inside, the facility was surprisingly well-equipped. Genetic sequencers, medical equipment, living quarters for one or two people.
And in a small room at the back, we found Kira. She was so thin that her bones showed through skin. Her silver eyes sunk into her gaunt face.
The degradation was visible in ways it wasn't with Maya yet. Kira had been symptomatic longer, suffering without medical care.
When she saw Adam, her face transformed. She ran to him despite everything. Despite months of isolation. Despite being essentially imprisoned.
Maybe we were really wrong about Adam.
"You came back," she said, voice cracking. "You said you'd cure me. Did you?"
Adam's expression softened, and for the first time, I saw some softness to him. "Almost," he said, holding her carefully like she might break. "I need you to come with me. Back to Crescent City. Be brave a little longer."
Kira noticed Elena standing behind us.
She froze. "Who is she?"
Adam's voice was quiet. "Our mother. She didn't abandon us. She was protecting someone else's child… just like I was protecting you."
The explanation was simple but weighted with pain.
Elena stepped forward, tears streaming.
"Kira. I'm so sorry. I didn't know you existed until days ago. I thought you were gone, lost with Adam during the Purge."
Kira looked between Elena and Adam, confused and scared.
"I have a mother?"
"You have a family," Elena said. "A sister, Maya. An aunt… me. People who love you even though we've never met."
The reunion was painful to watch.
Elena trying to embrace a daughter who didn't know her. Adam remaining distant, protective of Kira but unable to accept maternal comfort himself. Kira confused about whether to trust any of this.
“Fifteen years of separation,” my wolf observed sadly. “Can't be fixed in minutes.”

We prepared to transport Kira back to Crescent City immediately.
She was weak, barely able to walk without assistance. The degradation had progressed further than we'd realized.
"She needs medical care," I said to Adam. "Why didn't you treat her symptoms?"
"Because treating symptoms accelerates the underlying degradation," Adam said. "Any intervention that slows one aspect speeds up another. I learned that watching other subjects die."
He looked at Kira with something like guilt.
"The only real solution is the cure. Everything else just prolongs suffering."
We were loading supplies into the aircraft when alarms blared. Some sort of proximity sensors Adam had placed around the facility, detecting movement, heat signatures, multiple targets approaching.
Marcus was at the window instantly. "We have company. Twenty wolves, moving in coordinated formation."
"The Preservation Alliance," Adam said, his face going pale. "They found us."
"How?" Damon demanded.
"They've been tracking me," Adam realized. "Waiting for me to lead them to Kira. I walked us right into a trap."
The attackers appeared through the trees. Twenty armed wolves, half of them radiating Phantom energy.
“They want the Project Nightshade subjects,” my wolf said. “All of them.”
The assault began immediately.
But they weren't trying to breach the facility. They were surrounding it, taking positions in a wide perimeter.
"They're not attacking," Marcus observed. "They're containing us."
"They want to burn us out and force us into the open where they can capture everyone at once." Damon said grimly.
Standard siege tactic. We'd faced it before with Storms.
But we were outnumbered, isolated, with two Project Nightshade subjects who could barely fight.
I caught Damon's eye across the room. We needed to break the siege fast, before Alliance reinforcements arrived.
"Ideas?" I asked.
Adam stepped forward. "I can conceal all of us. Walk us right through their lines invisibly."
"You can conceal seven people?" Marcus asked skeptically.
"I've never tried concealing more than three at once," Adam admitted. "But theoretically, yes. Extend my abilities over the entire group, maintain perfect concealment while we move."
"And in your condition?" Damon asked pointedly.
Because Adam was showing strain. The degradation accelerating, his body breaking down faster than Maya's or even Lucas's.
"It'll be difficult," Adam said. "I might not maintain it all the way to the aircraft. But it's our best chance."
Elena made a decision before anyone could debate further.
"Do it. I'll help you."
"Mom, you don't have concealment abilities," Adam said.
"No. But I have Phantom energy. Use me as a battery. Draw on my strength to maintain the concealment longer."
Adam hesitated. "That could kill you. The strain of channeling that much power…"
"I've lost you twice already," Elena interrupted. "I'm not losing you or Kira again. Use whatever you need."
The weight of her choice hung heavy. We either risk Elena's life to save everyone, or fight our way out and potentially lose Kira to capture.
"Ivy," Damon said quietly.
He was asking for the decision. Asking if we gambled on Adam's abilities and Elena's sacrifice.
I looked at Kira, barely conscious, dying by degrees. At Adam, desperate to save his siblings. At Elena, finally reunited with her children and willing to die protecting them.
“This is what family means,” my wolf said. “Impossible sacrifices for the people you love.”
"Do it," I said. "Adam, Elena… get us out of here. Everyone else, stay close and stay quiet."
Adam nodded, already reaching for Elena's hand.
Silver energy began to glow around them both, his concealment abilities amplified by her raw Phantom strength booming. The room started to fade from sight.
And outside, twenty Alliance soldiers were  waiting for us to open the door.
