Chapter 93 You Are My Family Now
"You..."
In that moment, Olivia had many questions she wanted to ask, but her throat tightened, making it impossible to voice any of them.
She sat down in a daze, her fingertips brushing against the warm bowl. The fatigue in her heart seemed to dissolve like sugar in warm water, replaced by a wave of warmth that made her nose sting inexplicably.
Olivia looked at all the delicious food on the table, swallowed hard, and said hoarsely, "You really didn't have to do all this."
No wonder Alexander's office had been empty when she passed by at ten o'clock. He had come home early to cook for her.
An indescribable feeling swirled in her chest as Olivia lowered her head, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Alexander ladled some chicken soup into a bowl for her. He was about to tell her not to stand on ceremony when she said, "Alexander, you're my family now."
She gave him a profound look before accepting the soup and drinking it in one go.
That look contained too many emotions for Alexander to process, leaving him momentarily speechless.
He withdrew his hand, taking a moment before responding, "It's just dinner."
"Don't tell me you consider all your servants family?" he asked with deliberate skepticism.
Olivia shook her head, saying earnestly, "You're different."
She could feel his kindness toward her. She wanted to cherish this kindness, which was why she didn't want to avoid him anymore.
"Don't flatter yourself. I'm merely checking in on an exemplary employee," Alexander said coldly, yet his hands betrayed him as he placed a slice of perfectly cooked roast beef on her plate. "Eat quickly and get some rest. Your dark circles are about to touch your shoes!"
Olivia knew he was being stubbornly gentle, so she didn't argue. She obediently began eating with gusto.
The next morning, although her relationship with Alexander had improved and they had grown closer, Olivia still chose to commute to work alone to avoid raising eyebrows.
"Olivia." Just as she turned off the engine and prepared to exit her car, she saw James Kent approaching.
There he was again. Lately, they seemed to coincidentally meet several times a day. She never thought fate would tie them together like that.
Olivia rolled her eyes, quickly rushing toward the elevator and immediately pressing the close button.
"Olivia!" By the time James reacted, the elevator doors were already closing.
Watching James's furious face through the narrowing gap, Olivia returned a calm smile.
James was truly impossible to shake off.
The elevator went straight to the Design Department. Olivia composed herself and threw herself into her work for the day.
By lunch break, Olivia finally had time to check her phone.
When the screen lit up, dozens of messages from an unknown number popped up. Without looking, she knew they were harassment texts from James.
After blocking the number, she took her mug and headed to the break room.
The door was slightly ajar, and as she approached, gossip seeped through the crack.
Olivia paused, but surprisingly, she wasn't the subject of their gossip this time.
Her thoughts turned to Alexander.
During this period, James had repeatedly shown up to harass her, and they had had several public altercations, yet no one at the company was gossiping about her. She knew Alexander must have intervened behind the scenes.
Olivia couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips, feeling something inside her soften.
To thank Alexander, the next day at noon, Olivia brought a homemade lunch to the CEO's office.
She placed the lunchbox on his desk. "Mr. Blake, thank you for your help. This is for you."
Alexander nodded slightly. When he opened the container, the aroma of the food wafted out along with the steam. As he looked at all his favorites, including eggs shaped like little rabbits, he flashed a smile.
He closed the lid, feigning complaint, "Next time, don't make so much. It's wasteful if I can't finish it."
No wonder the housekeeper mentioned Olivia had been up early that morning. She had been in the kitchen preparing this. With her already exhausting work schedule and limited rest time, she didn't need to put so much effort into his lunch.
Seeing him accept it, Olivia's eyes curved with joy. "Alright, I'll let you get back to work."
Once he confirmed she had left, Alexander immediately moved the obstructive documents aside and carefully retrieved the lunchbox he had just pushed to the corner.
He took dozens of photos and only then did he begin eating at a leisurely pace.
For several days afterward, Olivia continued to bring lunch to Alexander.
One day, after leaving the CEO's office, Olivia didn't immediately return to her department. Instead, she detoured to Simon's desk, smilingly placing coffee and a sandwich in front of him.
Simon gave her a suspicious look before teasing, "What's up? You never bring me food without a reason."
"I do have something to ask you," Olivia admitted, directly inquiring whether Alexander's legs had any chance of healing.
At her words, Simon's expression changed dramatically. He immediately pushed the items back toward her.
"I have work to do," he said coldly before standing up and walking away.
In the days that followed, Simon's attitude toward Olivia grew increasingly distant. Whenever she tried to engage him in conversation, he would brush her off.
This left Olivia increasingly puzzled.
Looking at the pastries she hadn't been able to give him, she glanced back toward the CEO's office before ultimately deciding against asking Alexander directly.
"Could it be because I asked about his injury?" she wondered.
Back at her desk, Olivia carefully reviewed their conversation from that day.
After much thought, she felt her guess was probably right.
But why would Simon react so strongly just because she mentioned Alexander's legs? It wasn't as if his injury was some sort of taboo.
Unless... there was a secret she didn't know about?
Determined to uncover the truth, Olivia went to the hospital after work, specifically making an appointment with Dr. Allan Jennings, Alexander's doctor friend.
When her appointment number was called over the PA system, Olivia nervously entered the examination room.
"Nice to see you. What seems to be bothering you?" Allan said, eyes fixed on his computer screen as he routinely asked about her condition.
Olivia, not wanting to waste time, immediately stated her purpose. "Dr. Jennings, I'm not feeling unwell. I'm here for something else."
Only then did Allan realize she was Olivia, the woman his good friend Alexander Blake was in love with.
He hesitated before cautiously asking, "What can I help you with?"
Olivia placed her hands on her knees and asked with a serious expression, "Do you know how Alexander injured his legs?"
Allan contemplated silently for a moment before advising, "Your amnesia hasn't resolved yet. I recommend not asking too many questions. Maintaining your current state is best."
As a doctor, he was certain her amnesia was genuine. It was precisely because of this that he could advise her so calmly.
"What does this have to do with my amnesia?" Olivia was even more confused now. "Does that mean... the truth might trigger something?"
If that was the case, it suggested that Alexander's injury was probably related to her. Perhaps even... caused by her?
Olivia's questions multiplied, but Allan kept repeating. "I recommend not asking too many questions. Focus on resting and recovering. When your memory returns, you'll understand naturally."
Seeing that she wouldn't get useful information from him immediately, Olivia changed tactics. "I'll wait for you outside then."
"Even if you sit in the hallway until dawn, it won't help." Unfortunately, Allan wasn't falling for her strategy.
To ensure Olivia left, he personally escorted her to the door. "Go home. If Alexander finds out about this, I'll be in trouble."
Seeing her disappointment, he added, "If you're really determined to know, you could ask him directly."
After a moment of silence, Olivia sighed, "...Fine."
After Allan left, Olivia was about to order a ride-share when James suddenly appeared from nowhere, pointing an accusing finger at her. "Well, well! You shameless woman, I finally caught you meeting with another man!"
