Chapter 105 Rehabilitation Room
Chapter 105 Rehabilitation Room
An accident happened at the venue, and the award ceremony ended abruptly.
The ambulance arrived quickly. Watching the medical staff lift the injured and unconscious Olivia onto a stretcher, Jonathan let out a cold snort and left without a word.
He had hoped Olivia would mention him and the Harper family in her speech to save his dignity, but he never expected her to mess up so badly.
"Dad..."
As soon as he got home, Isabella, who had been waiting anxiously, stood up nervously to greet Jonathan.
The moment he saw her, Jonathan's face turned pale, and he said through gritted teeth. "How dare you!"
Isabella's body trembled at his yelling, tears streaming down her face. "Dad, I really didn't know anything, I didn't bribe the judges..."
Jonathan got angrier the more he listened. He slammed his hand heavily on the coffee table, making the water on it splash out. "Didn't know? Layla already posted evidence of you bribing the judges!"
"Do you know you've completely disgraced the Harper family!" Did she know how humiliated he was! Those contemptuous looks and blatant mockery almost drowned him! If it weren't for Olivia standing on stage with her genuine achievements, he would have been completely mortified!
Isabella's legs went weak and she collapsed to the floor. Tears streaming down her face, she shook her head and kept denying. "Dad, I really didn't know... it was all James, yes! James did it all!"
A light bulb went off in her head, and she didn't hesitate to pin all the blame on James. "A couple days ago I complained to him about how hard the competition was, worried I wouldn't get good results and disappoint you guys. He said he'd help me and promised I'd definitely place. I thought he was just comforting me... he must have secretly bribed the judges to give me high scores!"
"Dad, please believe me, if I'd known I would have stopped him!" Isabella crawled to Jonathan's feet. She looked up at him with her tear-stained face, playing the emotional card. "You've watched me grow up, you know my character best. How could I possibly do something that would ruin our reputation?"
Jonathan was silent for a moment, then sighed. "Alright, look at yourself now, get up already!"
"Stay away from James from now on!" His tone was still harsh, but he stopped scolding her, clearly believing her words.
A flash of smugness crossed Isabella's eyes. Just as she was about to get away with it, Albert, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke. "I'll clear this up with James and have him publicly clarify to clear your name."
Jonathan agreed disapprovingly. "Talk to him properly, tell him to stop doing these unnecessary things in the future!"
If it weren't for him, the Harper family could have taken two spots this time - imagine how impressive that would have been!
Although Isabella was annoyed that Albert didn't believe her, she wasn't worried. She just reminded him weakly. "Albert, be gentle when you talk to him."
Because she knew in her heart that James would willingly take the blame for anything. Let him ask all he wants - if he gets the truth out of him, she'd admit defeat!
Albert's probing gaze swept over her. Seeing she showed no signs of guilt, he suppressed his doubts and said in a low voice. "OK."
Meanwhile, Olivia was hospitalized again.
She had a fractured leg - new injury on top of old. The doctor who treated her last time shook his head, saying frankly that this time it would take at least a year and a half to heal.
"Mr. Blake, Ms. Harper's leg injury is too severe this time, combined with the relapse of her old injury. She'll need a more comprehensive rehabilitation plan going forward," the doctor advised.
Hearing this, Alexander nodded thoughtfully and said in a low voice: "I understand."
That evening, Olivia slowly woke up.
"Don't move." She had just tried to sit up when Alexander, beside her, pressed her shoulder down.
Olivia blinked, looking at Alexander somewhat confused. "Where is..." She moved her leg, and just as she was about to speak, she winced from the sharp pain in her leg.
"Your leg is fractured." As Alexander spoke, he carefully helped her sit up, placing two pillows behind her back.
With his reminder, Olivia belatedly remembered the accident at the competition venue.
"The doctor said your injury is very serious this time and you'll need more comprehensive rehabilitation."
Olivia asked puzzled, "Like what?"
"Like moving back to my place." Worried she wouldn't agree, Alexander explained. "You got injured saving me, so I should be responsible for everything during your recovery."
Olivia hesitated. "But I just paid my rental deposit..."
She'd only lived there for less than half a month. If she moved out now, not only would she lose the rent, she probably wouldn't get the deposit back either.
Alexander said, "I'll handle the deposit issue."
"What about the company..."
"I'll apply for paid leave for you."
"Okay." Seeing how well he had arranged everything, Olivia agreed right away.
The next day, Olivia returned to Alexander's villa and moved back into her previous room.
She spent a month recovering in bed. During this time, people came in an endless stream to check on her - colleagues calling to show concern, collaboration requests and project invitations following her competition victory, companies extending job offers, and harassing messages from the Harper family.
Albert: [Is the hospital food okay? If you don't like it, I'll have the servants from home come take care of you]
Albert: [Colleagues say staying in the hospital is draining. If you're bored with no one to chat with, you can message me]
Jonathan: [Come back to work at the company this week. Find time to have dinner with your sister and clear up the misunderstanding. What does it look like for you two sisters to have such a strained relationship!]
Jonathan: [Stay away from Layla from now on. If she hadn't stirred things up, your sister wouldn't be affected by public opinion now. And you too! You could have helped explain things at the time!]
Olivia ignored Albert's awkward concern and didn't respond to Jonathan's harsh orders. She simply blocked them all and calmly deleted the messages.
Actually, she shouldn't be so cold to Albert. After all, he wasn't as heartless as Jonathan - he still cared about her.
But she didn't need it anymore.
She wasn't the old Olivia anymore. She no longer craved the tiny bit of love they threw her way.
Since they favored Isabella, let them keep favoring her. It had nothing to do with her anyway.
As Olivia was lost in thought, a knock on the door interrupted her, and a delicious aroma drifted in.
"Ms. Harper, it's time for lunch."
The servant brought lunch to the small table on the bed with a smile, then reminded her. "The doctor will arrive at four this afternoon. Remember to keep that time free."
"Okay." Olivia nodded vaguely, her attention completely drawn to the abundant lunch.
After this period of rest and recovery, Olivia could finally walk on the ground, though she still limped. And each time she could only walk for a few seconds - any longer and her foot would start hurting.
At four in the afternoon, the family doctor knocked on Olivia's door right on time.
"Where are we going?" Seeing the doctor pushing a wheelchair toward the third floor, Olivia asked puzzled.
They usually did treatment either in the gym on the fourth floor or in the garden on the first floor. Why were they going to the third floor today?
"Ms. Harper, starting today, you'll be doing rehabilitation in the rehabilitation room."
Rehabilitation room?
The door was pushed open. Seeing what was inside, Olivia froze in place.
It was filled with professional equipment for leg rehabilitation!
