It Was You!

It Was You!

“Ahhaahaha!” I screamed frantically as the guard bound my wrists with chains connected to the ceiling. The other pulled the chain from the other end, and I was lifted off the floor, my legs barely touching the ground.

“I have marked your faces.” My lips trembled violently. “I'll kill every one of you when I get out of here. Puaah!” I spat at the guard before me.

He froze slightly, his eyes glaring at me from his helmet. He took out a handkerchief and wiped the spit off his helmet.

“Let's gag her and wait for Ray to return,” his deep voice said, and my eyes widened slightly.

Ray?

He was assigned back to his position?

“W-wait! Mmm! Mmm!” My screams were muffled as he forced a rag inside my mouth. My feet curled in disgust and I wiggled around, lifted my feet, and kicked him.

“Tie her up!” he snarled.

Someone grabbed my legs tightly and I winced from the pain. Coldness wrapped around my feet and the sound of chains filled my ears.

The other one successfully tied my mouth with a rag, preventing me from speaking. I attacked as he grabbed a sack and began walking towards me.

“Mnnoo! Mnnn!” I shook my head frantically, knowing fully well what he was trying to do.

He ignored my screams and covered my head with it. My eyes darted around frantically in the darkness, my heart racing heavily in my chest.

I tried breathing, but the sack stuck stubbornly to my mouth, making it difficult to breathe.

He grabbed my neck and I felt the rope being tied around it, blocking out any air from getting through.

“Mmmm!” Tears fell down my cheeks as panic overtook me.

At this rate, I was going to die!

“Is everything ready?” Ray's voice sounded in the room, and I shook frantically, hoping he would know it was me.

“Yes, sir,” they said.

“That's good.” He chuckled. I heard his footsteps closing in on me. “It's fascinating to get such a welcoming gift from the Alpha himself. I didn't expect him to throw a criminal at me immediately after assigning me back to my position.”

I felt his hand on my arm. “I will make sure to take good care of you.”

His hand trailed up my arm towards my head, and I shook more to make him know it was me, but at that moment, someone interrupted him.

“You can't remove the sack, sir,” the guard I had spat on earlier said, and my body went cold. “The Alpha specifically gave an order for her to be tortured without you knowing who she is.”

“Oh? Is she someone I know?” Ray muttered.

“I can't be so sure, sir. Does her scent smell like someone you know?” the guard added.

Is this a plan?

My eyes widened as realization struck me. The guards were working for someone!

Ray's sniffing sounded in my ears. “No. Although, I must say her scent feels familiar to me. I haven't been out, so I don't know much about what's happening in the Pack.”

“Do not worry. I'll make sure to execute the Alpha's order,” he added.

I heard the sound of metal clinking and then liquid pouring onto something. My nose scrunched when I perceived the strong scent of gasoline.

What was he trying to do?

“Mhhhh!” I breathed with difficulty.

Seconds later, his presence surrounded me and something hot slowly closed in on my feet.

“I'll be gentle,” he whispered, and I flinched when I felt the burn on my feet.

“MMMMMMMMHHHHHHH!”

Nyxion's POV

My fingers flipped to the next page of the handbook, my eyes skimming through the content in it.

Naeris was a good writer.

Everything about her childhood was written here.

“On the 4th of May…” I muttered, reading through the content. “...my brother brought a seashell as a birthday gift to me.”

A slight smile stretched on my lips as I went through the words down to the last page. As I turned to the next page, the smile on my face froze because there was nothing written on it. Instead, the writing was upside down.

I turned the handbook upside down and began flipping to the right.

“Hmm. Her handwriting is different here,” I muttered, skimming through everything. It contained the details of her parents' death, her time serving Talon, and when she was finally handed over to us as a peace treaty.

After that, there was nothing else.

I shut the handbook and stared outside the window. The door pushed open and Draven's scent wafted through the air.

“Did you bring it?” I asked, turning sideways to him. Draven closed the distance between us and handed over the letter that the council received before Naeris was thrown in the dungeon.

For the past week, I had been searching for the culprit behind it. I raided everywhere and even suspected Ryder.

I slowly opened the letter, staring at the handwriting.

“Who would have thought the victim…” I opened the handbook, staring at the second part where the content talked about her parents' death. “...is the culprit.”

I squeezed the letter, storming out of my room. “She played me.”

Everything was part of her plan.

It was no wonder the timing felt off.

“Everything happened after Aeron left for the Town Hall,” I gritted my teeth, storming towards her room. I lifted my hand and banged on the door.

It slowly opened and she came into view, seated on the balcony with a maid massaging her feet.

I walked inside the room towards her, but before I could get to her, she turned to face me, her eyes as cold as ice.

I've never seen her look that way at Aeron.

Why was she always cold towards me?

I never did anything to hurt her.

“Your brother isn't here.” Her voice came out softly, and she glanced behind me, probably at the door.

I walked towards her, and the maid massaging her feet lifted her head towards me and bowed instantly.

She got up to leave.

“Stay,” Naeris ordered calmly. She returned to her work.
My eyes never left Naeris. I lifted the handbook, waving it in the air. Her gaze moved towards it and back to me.

“It was you..."
