Chapter 97 97
Draven's POV
She looked calm, her facial expression indifferent, so I couldn't make out if what I was about to hear was good or bad news. "Well?" I demanded, my voice echoing in the hallway. "How is she?"
Katherine sighed, turning to look at me. "This is quite unusual, but then that shouldn't be surprising as nothing is normal about Hazel's pregnancy," she began.
"What is?" I asked, my impatience growing.
"Hazel is fine," Katherine said quickly, seeing the panic in my eyes. "The pain was caused by the baby shifting in her womb."
I frowned, not understanding. "Shifting? What do you mean?" What does she mean by the baby shifting? Does she mean changing positions in the womb? But Hazel is just 2 or 3 months pregnant, and the baby shouldn't be able to do that just yet.
Katherine sighed, her gaze softening. "All werewolves are born in their human forms. But it seems that Hazel's pup had shifted right inside her tummy.
It's very rare; in fact, it has never been recorded. Especially given the fact that she's 3 months and a week pregnant."
"What do you mean the baby shifted into its wolf form? No wolf can shift until it turns 18. So how is it possible? You must've made mistake. Maddy reasoned out in a state of shock.
"It is impossible based on the law of nature for us werewolves, but it seems that Ashe has a habit of defying the law of nature." She explained. I knew I had to divert her attention before she ended up revealing more than what was needed to Maddy.
"But... is the baby okay?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes," Katherine said, nodding. "The baby is fine. And Hazel should be waking up soon. I gave her a small dose of vitamins to help her regain her strength." She explained calmly.
A wave of relief washed over me. Hazel was okay. The baby was okay. I leaned against the wall, feeling my legs go weak beneath me.
"Thank you, Katherine," I said, my voice shaky.
"You're welcome, Alpha Draven. I'm just doing my job. And just remember, Hazel will need plenty of rest. And try not to panic too much the next time. Remain calm.”
“It's not good for either of them to feel rising tension instead of support. Stay strong." I nodded, taking in her words. At that moment, all I could focus on was the fact that Hazel was okay.
Our baby was okay. And for the first time in hours, I felt completely at peace once more, and my heart had stopped beating so fast.
I motioned for Physician Katherine to follow me to the meeting room. I wanted to ask her further questions, but the problem was speaking here while Maddy was still listening.
I turned to leave, but then I took notice of something. I couldn't help but notice Maddy's pleading eyes as she stared at me; her expression was filled with a mix of fear and concern.
She seemed to want something but was scared to ask. It dawned on me that, in my distress, I had been too hard on her. Knowing that she was scared of me made me feel a mix of guilt and contentment.
Now that she is angry at me, she wouldn't dare try to double-cross me in any way. "Maddy," I called, my voice softening. "Go see Hazel. She's waiting for you inside the room."
Her eyes widened, and a flicker of relief washed over her face. Without a word, she scurried off into the room where Hazel was resting. I watched her go, feeling a pang of guilt for not being more understanding.
She was quite understanding, though, and she had quick thinking too. But I couldn't ponder on that for now; there were pressing matters at hand that needed my attention.
Katherine and I left the entrance of my bedroom and headed towards the meeting room. I entered the meeting room, taking our seats across from each other.
"Katherine," I began, my voice steady but full of urgency. "You mentioned something about Hazel's baby shifting into its wolf form in her tummy. What did you mean?"
The physician leaned forward, her gaze fixed on mine. "Alpha Draven, please take a look outside," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Curiosity piqued, and I turned my attention to the window and froze. The moon was full and luminous as it hung in the night sky. I had completely forgotten that tonight would be a full moon.
On a night like this, all the wolves should have automatically shifted, whether they wanted to or not. And then the wolves would meet me at the altar, where we would assemble and sing praises to the moon goddess.
It was the command of nature, an instinct we couldn't resist even if we tried. Yet none of that had happened. Why? What happened?
I turned back to Katherine, my eyes wide with disbelief. "Why didn't we shift? What's happening?"
Katherine's expression was grave as she spoke. "Alpha Draven, when you called me, I was on my way to the meeting area for all the wolves, as they were all awaiting your presence.
I got there to find that all the wolves were in their human forms, and I wasn't the only one who hadn't shifted," he explained.
"Are they still gathered there? It would explain why the maids are nowhere to be found." I said it mostly to myself.
"Yes. But, Alpha Draven, there are too many mysteries surrounding Hazel's unborn child. I've had my doubts, but after thinking clearly, I'm certain there's a connection to the pup."
My mind raced, trying to comprehend the gravity of her words. The idea that Hazel's baby held so much power that he was even able to control the shifting of all the werewolves The mystery surrounding this child is both thrilling and terrifying.
I leaned in closer, my voice barely a whisper. "What do you mean, Katherine? What kind of connection?"
The physician took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before continuing. She spoke slowly, choosing her words carefully, as if considering my status.
"Alpha Draven, that baby is the only one that is able to shift to its wolf form tonight. I did my research on Alpha Draven, and I found that there are legends among our kind.”
Legends of pups born with extraordinary abilities Some say they possess ancient magic, while others believe they carry the potential to change the course of our existence. But these are just stories, tales passed down through generations."
I listened intently, my mind racing with the possibilities. "Are you saying that Hazel's baby could be one of these legendary pups?"
Katherine nodded solemnly. "It's a possibility that cannot be ignored. There's something different about this child, something that defies the natural order of our kind.”
“And it's not just the moon's influence tonight. I've been observing Hazel closely, and there are signs that go beyond normal pregnancy."
"What exactly are you trying to say, Katherine?" I asked. "Alpha Draven, there is a legend and prophecy of pups that are blessed with immense powers to be great werewolves. But then..."
"Then what?"
"But then, they are personally groomed and nurtured by the moon goddess just to become vessels for possession." She explained. I suddenly felt my whole body freeze as I took in the weight of her revelation.
"These species are called djinns. And they come once every hundred years. They only come when one of the gods is ready to come down to earth and live a normal life.”
“But then it has also been recorded that the stronger the djinn, the greater the upcoming war." She explained.
"What is the probability of Ashe being a djinn?" I asked. "Avery high scale. But we won't know until he is born." She explained it sadly.
We remained in a palpable silence for a while until she finally voiced out. "Alpha Draven, we need to inform the pack," Katherine said, concern etched on her face.
"No," I replied firmly, my voice laced with determination. "Not yet, Katherine. We can't reveal this to anyone else, at least not until we have more answers. The pack is already on edge with the recent events, and this revelation could just cause panic."
Katherine studied me for a moment, recognising the gravity of my words. "Alright, Alpha Draven," she relented. "I understand your concern. But you know that we won't be able to keep this a secret for too long.
A few pack members and the elders might have a knowledge or two about the existence of djinns, so they might find out on their own, making things get blown out of proportion."
I nodded, acknowledging her request. "Don't worry about that, Katherine. As soon as we have a better understanding of what's happening, we'll share it with the pack."
Satisfied with my response, Katherine stood up, preparing to leave. But before she could make her way to the door, I stopped her.
