Chapter Eight
May’s POV
Taking a quick shower, not knowing when the big creepy and pervert Nicholas would show up, was a huge task since I was so used to wasting time away in the shower while imagining myself in one of those erotic novels and trying to make some changes in my head to them.
Remembering how his finger felt in my skin, I fought off the urge to fill myself with my finger, thinking it was his finger, and cry out his name. I couldn’t let him affect me anymore. It isn’t supposed to be this way.
I quickly put on my dresses and walked out of the dressing room. I swapped the flats that I’d picked for pink ones since my dress was mostly pink. I put on light makeup, combed my black hair till I got the tangled knots straight. I also used my necklace, the same one my grandma gave me before she died, before walking out of the room to join them for breakfast.
“Good morning Tiffany, Good morning Bella” I sang as I walked towards the dining area.
I stopped on my track once I remembered what I’d said to the Queen the previous day. I bowed my head in shame, walked slowly, and sat opposite Nicholas.
“I’m sorry about yesterday, Tiffany. I was just hyperactive” Tiffany touched my face, making me look at her before she smiled.
“It’s okay darling. Nicholas already explained the whole situation to me. It’s good you’re much better now. Can you get her something to calm her system, Bella?”
After Bella left to get the drug, I looked over at Nicholas, trying to figure out what he had told the Queen to help solve the embarrassment.
Unfortunately, enough, he wasn’t looking directly at me.
“Here, May” Bella passed the drug and water to me. I quickly swallowed the pill and placed the water back down.
“Tell me, how was your day yesterday? Where did you visit? This town is like the smallest major tourist center any visitor would love. What do you think?” the Queen asked.
“Well, I only visited a friend yesterday and it was at a library. So, I haven’t really visited anywhere yet”
“That’s really bad. If I have more free time on my schedule, I would’ve loved to take you around myself” The Queen said, warming my heart.
“I could go with her during my free period by Friday. It’ll be like a girl’s day out” Bella proposed, and I smiled at her.
“I’ll love to,” I said, earning us the Queen’s permission to go out with Bella on Friday.
I guess I’ll just be bored out of my mind till Friday then, maybe I’ll just hang out with Declan till then and be careful while I’m with him as he still can’t be trusted fully.
My phone beeped, I picked it up and I realized that I got an alert from Nicholas. He had paid twenty-five thousand dollars while on the breakfast table.
He actually kept to the first deal of paying half of the money and I snorted at his silly attitude.
I noticed that he paid five thousand dollars more making it thirty grand and I frowned when I saw the description that he added to the deposit he made into my account.
Extra five thousand for your upkeep!
I wanted to fire back curses at him for thinking I needed his extra five thousand dollars or if I’d begged him to make a financial offer in the first place, but I quickly stopped when I realized I didn’t have his number neither did I have any of his social media accounts.
After we broke up seven years ago and he’d stopped coming to school until he graduated, I made it a job to keep myself off him. No stalking and no visiting. I believed strongly in the *out of sight is out of mind* phrase and I guessed it worked out fine for me.
“Is everything okay, May? Why are you frowning so hard at the poor phone?” I wasn’t even aware that I’d been frowning.
“Sorry about that. It’s just that a dummy sent me extra money to the normal one we agreed on, saying the extra one was for my upkeep when I’m obviously not asking for the money” I explained, directing my hard glare to Nicholas.
“Maybe the dummy actually saw how difficult your life is and decided to help you out a little” He responses for the first time since I got to the dining area.
I smiled bitterly, “What does the dummy know about someone living a hard life? Is it because the dummy lived like that before becoming rich? Or is it because he is so stupid enough to think everybody except him is living a hard life? Extra five thousand dollars that wasn’t asked for is an insult to my person and if you want, you can deliver the fucking message to the dummy”
The whole table was silent at my outburst. The Queen was looking back and forth from me to Nicholas. Both of us were pretty much oblivious of how shocked everyone was as we kept on glaring hard at each other.
“Is there something going on that I should know about?” The Queen asked and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat.
The awkward atmosphere was broken when an older man walked in together with a young guy who looked perfect in the well-tailored suit he was putting on. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the boy was the man’s son and he’s drop-dead gorgeous.
“Good to see you, Mayor Wilson. I’m so glad you could join us” Tiffany stood up and went on to hug them both. “It’s so good to see you as well, Adam”
Adam flashed Tiffany a smile, almost taking my breath away with him. I’ve always seen these types of guys on tv or social media, I never imagined I’ll be one day surrounded with good looking men, even though one of them was my most hated person on earth.
“Join us, please” The Mayor and his son walked over to the table. Adam sat beside me while the Mayor took a seat beside Nicholas.
“It’s so good to see you again, Prince Nicholas,” The Mayor said, jabbing him by his side.
“Same here Mayor. I didn’t know you were in town” He said, directing his word to Adam.
“I came in for thanksgiving and I decided to stay back till new year” Adam replied “Good for you. I guess I’ll be seeing much of you then”
“I have a business proposal I’ll love to talk about with you, but I think that’ll be after breakfast”
“Definitely” Nicholas replied with a curt nod.
“Can someone please introduce us to the beautiful young lady here?” Adam asked, I blushed while the Queen smiled.
“This is May, she’s Nicholas’ fiancée,” The Queen said, and I deflated like a ball.
I so wish I were single right now and not fake engaged to a grumpy asshole.
“It’s not yet official. We’re just taking things really slow” I said, trying to take a little of the burden off my neck.
“Baby doll, can I see you upstairs for a minute?” Nicholas asked, smiling at me. I turned my head from blushing at Adam to glare hard at Nicholas.
“Please excuse us”
Nicholas suddenly intertwined his hand with mine as we walked away from the dining area, he was making an effort by trying to appear like a good boyfriend, but I hated it.
Why?
My hand in his large hand was sending mixed signals to my system. It brought back some crazy memories of when we dated seven years ago. I wanted to skin him alive for holding my hand, but I had to keep up the show till we got to the room.
I removed my hand forcibly from him as we stepped into the room and quickly cleaned my hand with my jeans and sprayed some hand sanitizers on it.
A dramatic way of telling him I hated holding his hand.
“What was that for, May?” He roared.
“What?” I shyly replied, tucking my hair at the back of my ear, feigning complete ignorance.
“I paid you already, so act according to the plan and not like a slut” As those words left his mouth, so did my right hand left my side, and landed on his cheek as it delivered a hot slap that resonated with my anger.
“You’re an asshole” I yelled at him.
“An asshole who had the greatest joy of fucking you back then just to make you believe that I loved you”
My eyes became laced with tears as I fought them back and refused to cry because of how much his words sting.
“I hate you, Aslam. I fucking hate you. It was better when you were dead to me rather than show your face right now. You know what? I want out: I’m not interested in this bullshit anymore. Give me your fucking account details right this instance and let me fucking send your fucking money back to the fucked up asshole that you are”
