Chapter Seven

May’s POV

I did return to my senses after I woke up but the way my head was pounding almost made me wish my senses were still altered.

I sat up on the bed and groaned, I was mad at the fact that I allowed myself to trust Declan despite not trusting anyone after what happened with Aslam back then.

I’d willed myself to always remember I’ve got only me to protect and no one else can be trusted to protect me. How I allowed myself to trust Declan is still a mystery to me.

I guess joblessness can really do a number on people. Because if I had a real job, I wouldn’t have been here in the first place, trying to pay my rent with help from him or his mom.

Groaning loudly as I heard my phone ringing, I picked it up and the first thing I realized was that it was seven in the morning.

Banging my head on the wall right above the bed, I wondered how the hell I was able to sleep that much? Did I sleep on this bed while Nicholas slept on….?

He can sleep wherever as long as he didn’t sleep right next to me. I hate him so much that I want to strangle him.

I picked up the phone once it started ringing the second time, not bothering to check the caller.

“May” I knew who it was immediately he spoke. I would recognize that voice as my new hated person, probably on my hate list, right next to Nicholas.

I mean he ranked second that first.

“Who is this? How can I help you?” I feigned ignorance. It was better not to know people like that.

I stood up from the bed before I could grab his response and moved close to the big wardrobe where my bags were placed behind it. I opened it to see if I could grab some clothes, take a shower, and get some pain killer to use.

“It’s Declan, May and I know you saved my number. Are you still mad at me?” He asked.

“I would be mad at you if I know who you are. Maybe a better introduction would do” I replied.

I grabbed a floral print crop top with jeans and decided to wear simple flats rather than sneakers or heels since I wouldn’t be going anywhere.

“I’m sorry I put some drugs in your drink, May. I swear it was just to make you feel better and nothing else” He apologized making me angrier.

“You drugged me Declan. There’s a thin line between the two issues. You didn’t ask for my consent before putting those drugs in my drink. You don’t even know if I’m allergic to any of those substances. You just went ahead to do shit like that. That’s A+ creepy and dangerous. Right now, the D in your name screams danger” I yelled into the phone, already getting to the edge of my sanity.

“I swear, I wouldn’t have done anything to hurt you, May. I wasn’t thinking straight cod I was high myself. I’m so sorry May”

“You could’ve raped me, Declan. You could’ve sold me off to some mafia for prostitution or maybe some vampires to turn me into their bloodsucking pets”

He suddenly started laughing on the other end of the line.

“If you haven’t noticed May, I’m not a monster. I mean you might not trust me and all but no, I wouldn’t do such an awful thing to you and no, I wouldn’t sell you off because this is not one of your novels or those erotic novels you read. Just give me one last chance, May, if I screw up again, kill me but after you confirm that I wasn’t high when I screwed up”

At that point, I knew I had to let go of the issue and give him a chance. He could probably be telling the truth and I wouldn’t know that if I shut him off like I usually do.

“You’re a drug junky, an addict that needs some psychological check up,” I said, softly smiling.

“Does that mean I’m forgiven?” He asked.

“No! I’m just giving you one more chance. If you screw things up or do what you did, one more time, either I kill you or call the cops on you, trust me, you wouldn’t like any of those options”

“Okay, ma’am. I wouldn’t do that again unless if you asked for it” He said, yielding to my condition.

“Fuck off, drug addict”

I laughed “I see you’ve woken up and I see that you’ve made up with your boyfriend as well”

I shrieked at the sound of his voice before turning to glare at him. I quickly ended the call, lifted my head back to the son of a gun that had managed to scare my head off for the third time in a row.

“You need to stop doing that” I warned.

Nicholas walked closer to me, making me hold on to the clothes I was holding tightly.

“Stop doing what, baby doll”

I closed my eyes immediately he called me baby doll, it brought back memories that I wanted to enclose in a black box and ship off to the end of the world.

“You don’t have the right to call me that, Nicholas” I requested “Call you what”

“You know what I’m talking about, Nicholas”

I flashed my eyes open once I felt a slight touch on my cheek. Nicholas was already standing so close to me, his eyes warming my body up, his finger on my cheek with a smirk on his face.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, baby doll”

His finger moved from my cheek down to my chin, tracing the hollow of my neck down to my chest and I held my breath when his finger stopped at the top of my breast.

“Stop Nicholas!” I demanded.

“Why should I stop baby doll? You were cool with it when your boyfriend drugged you. Why do you feel so repulsive about me touching you? Care to explain”

He knew how much effect he had on me, he knew how much I loved him back then and how much his touch turned me into a jellybean but one thing he wasn’t aware of is the fact that all that was seven years ago when I was naive, stupid, and barely seventeen.

“Because I hate you! I hate your smell! I hate your touches! I hate your eyes! I hate you for existing Aslam. You’re on top of my hate list in case you need to get it into your head”

His demeanor changed. His smirk was replaced with a frown that only lasted for some seconds before he quickly replaced it with a smirk.

“Well! We can say that’s all you love about me. Don’t you dare call me Aslam, I’m not that person anymore” he cautioned and took a step back.

“Don’t you dare call me baby doll as well, Nicholas. I’m far beyond that timid, foolish girl anymore. If you dare as much try anything stupid, I’ll burn you”

He suddenly placed his hand in my hair, “One thing I always loved about you was how you loved challenges no matter how soft you were. In case you need to know, May, I love the smell of burnt stuff. Have a nice shower and come downstairs for breakfast, the queen wants your presence there and be quick, we’ve got a show to put up”

Once he walked out of the room was I able to breathe properly.
