Chapter Twenty-Five
May’s POV
“Open the door, May” Nicholas called out from right behind the door.
I was back in the guest room that was given to me by Vanessa after Gabriel dropped the bombshell on me and made me realize everything was a lie.
Once Nicholas realized that I was back in the room, he came knocking hard at my door.
“Open this door, May. Just say something and let me know you’re fine. Fuck!” He cursed out, obviously losing his patience with me.
I couldn’t say a word not only because I was still reeling in the shock of what Gabriel had told me but also because I was crying.
“May, please” He begged, and I refused to answer. I didn’t want to see his face or talk to a liar and a cheat like him.
“May!!” He yelled banging the door three times.
Angrily, I stood up from the bed that I was lying down on, wiped the tears off my face, and opened the angrily.
“Yes, what do you want?” I screamed. “Haven’t you done enough? You’ve managed to break me into pieces what else do you want to do after that?”
“What are you talking about May? Why are you acting like this? Tell me, what happened?”
“Nothing but your plan happened. Shouldn’t you be happy that your plan worked out perfectly as you want it to? Why are you still here banging hard on my door that way?”
“What fucking plan are you talking about?”
“You should be the only one who has a fucking answer to that question, no one else, Prince Nicholas. Guess what, I’ll be leaving by morning and you’ll never see me again because I’m done with a cheat and a liar like you. I hate you Nicholas more than what you hate most in your life right now”
With that being said, I closed my door hard, banging it on his face, making him realize that now I hate him more than anything even though my heart was saying otherwise.
I’ve fooled myself by falling in love with him. I’ve deceived myself that it was better now but knowing everything that has happened is making it even more difficult for me to move on.
Another knock sounded on my door.
“I told you to leave, why don’t you want to listen to what….” I stopped when I realized it was Vanessa and not Nicholas.
“I heard the noise, is everything okay?” She asked, looking worried.
“Yes, I’m really sorry for disturbing your peace”
Forcefully, she opened my door fully and entered without my permission. She sat on the bed, gestured me to sit beside her.
“What happened, May? I can see the tears in your eyes and you’re in pain, what’s going on with you and Nicholas? I thought you guys were fine. I was expecting the wedding bells to be ringing soon”
I hissed bitterly.
“It’s all a lie. Nicholas is just messing around with me. He doesn’t love me like I thought. Fine! He never said anything about love, but I made myself believe that and it turns out that I’m just a play to him”
She looked at me surprisingly, “I thought Nicholas said,” she stopped
“Said what?”
“Did he tell you all these things by himself?”
“No”
“Then, how do you know he doesn’t love you?”
“Someone told me”
“And have you asked him about it?” Her question made me have a rethink.
“No, he’ll deny it. What’s the essence of asking him about it when he’s obvious he’ll make it feel like the person was deceiving me? I heard Nicholas talking to this person on the phone about it. His voice was recorded”
“May!” She shrieked. “You should have talked to him about it before making such final decisions in your head just because of what you heard. You will have to do something for me now, May”
“Which is?”
“Confrontation” I looked at her weirdly, “You’ll have to confront Nicholas and tell him everything you’ve heard and make him deny it to your face”
What!
“Why can’t you do that?”
“I don’t know. I just don’t feel like”
“Do you trust me?”
“Of course, I trust you”
“Then follow me, please”
The cute, puppy look on her face didn’t allow me to say no to her request. I quickly stood up and followed her down the elevator.
Fortunately and unfortunately, I saw Nicholas sitting on a couch with his head in his hand, Gabriel sitting beside him, touching his back slightly while Richard was sitting directly opposite him, talking.
He stopped once he saw both I and his wife.
“Nicholas” Vanessa called out, gaining his attention. “May has something to say to you”
Nicholas stood up, facing me. “What’s going on, May?” He looked so tired and exhausted.
Gabriel was looking at me, smirking as if he had won. I realized that I’d protected him enough, it was time I speak the truth.
“Gabriel told me about a plan that you told him about when I first arrived at the castle. He replayed the recording to me right in the room, the same one where you told him that you’ll make me fall in love with me over again and then throw me out of your house after releasing my nude to the internet”
I said all at once, not scared this time.
Speechless, Nicholas turned to look at Gabriel who was shocked that I said something against him this time.
“She’s lying”
“Yeah, the same way you lied to Nicholas back then that I was the one who forced myself on you at that party when it was obviously you who laced my drink with drugs, so I’ll be unconscious and you’ll carry out your act of deceit and make it look like I wanted you, right?”
“What the hell is going on here?” Nicholas asked.
“Maybe you should ask your best friend” I replied.
“You did all that Gabriel, for what reason? You disgraced her in front of her family, the only people she could call home”
He was referring to when Gabriel had called me out in front of the orphanage and people who raised me and loved me as their own.
“You’re pathetic, Gabriel. You’re a pathetic loser” I called him out.
“Yes, I’m pathetic. But I did all I did because I love him. At least he doesn’t love you back” Gabriel screamed
“Whatever, I wasn’t expecting him to love me….”
“I LOVE YOU, MAY” Nicholas said, stopping me from talking any further.
He continued, “I don’t know what Gabriel has been telling you, but everything is a lie. True, I planned on making you stay in the castle because I wanted you to stay there and find a way for us to come back together. Why do you think I know your home address and occupation? I even know of those summertime erotic novels you wrote two months ago. I’m sorry if this sounds obsessive but Declan was my friend before he met you. He showed me your picture once and then I asked him to help bring you home to the town for Christmas and make you stay in my castle, hoping you wouldn’t go back to the other one. I love you and I never stopped loving you. I just didn’t know how to come back to you after fucking up so bad back then. I should’ve believed you despite not knowing the truth, I should have, and I hate myself for that”
At that point, I was crying. I quickly covered his mouth with my hand to stop him from hating himself “Don’t say that, Nicholas. Don’t, please”
“Am I still your baby boy or do you still hate me?” He asked and I shook my head.
“No! You’re stuck with me”
He laughed.
“I love you and don’t ever believe otherwise, please”
“I love you too baby boy” He placed his mouth on mine giving me a quick kiss before hugging me tightly.
Vanessa clapped suddenly, gaining our attention.
“Gabriel, I think it’s time you leave,” Vanessa said.
“Fine! I’ll leave but that doesn’t mean this is over” He threatened “It’s not over, Gabriel! I’ll be pressing charges against you for what you did years ago. I promise you that” Richard threatened right back while Gabriel walked out cursing.
“I think it’s time to inform the queen of our latest development”
Vanessa announced making us all smile.
