Chapter Twenty-Four
May’s POV
“Really really super bad” I replied, laughing. Nicholas didn’t laugh back, he only pulled me closer and kissed the side of my head.
“What actually happened, May? You always do that whenever you want to avoid a topic”
He read me like an open book. I wasn’t ready to talk about it to anyone, especially Nicholas. I didn’t want to open myself that much to him, yet.
“I don’t feel like talking about it” I replied silently.
“Okay! You don’t have to do that. But I hope you trust me enough someday to tell me what happened and until then, I’ll be right here with you, holding you when you want me to”
I snuggled closer into his body as he wrapped his hand around me. I wanted the time to stand still forever so things could stay that way for us.
“Sleep baby, I’ll wake you up by morning”
I did as he said and slept off, dreaming of us.
When I woke up the next morning, Nicholas wasn’t there and that made me confirm that the dream I had about him standing up from the bed and telling me to go back to sleep.
I smiled when the memories of the previous night came rushing back.
After performing all my regular morning rituals, I went outside of the room to see if I’ll see anyone direct me to where others are. I got into the elevator and pressed the button leading to the last floor.
Once I got there, fortunately enough, I saw Vanessa with her child, Racheal.
“Hey May. Beautiful morning it is”
Vanessa said upon sighting me.
“It sure is a beautiful morning. I mean, everywhere looks so beautiful around here. I wish I can stay here forever” I gushed out.
“Why not? I mean I’ll love to have you stay here forever”
“Hey Racheal” I bent down to pat the adorable young girl’s hair. She was grinning widely at me, beautiful just like her mother.
“You’re my uncle’s girlfriend, right?” She asked, startling me.
I wanted to say no but with the anticipating look on the girl’s face, I wasn’t ready to break her heart.
“Yes, I am” I replied, earning a hug from her.
“Have you seen Nicolas this morning?” I asked.
“Yes, the burial is in two days and he’s helping his brother out with the preparation and everything” Vanessa explained.
“He was a great man and a good father too. He might have made some mistakes, but still, he was astonished by his sins when he brought Aslam back to where he belongs. I still can’t believe he kept in contact with him through all those years”
“Sorry! But I don’t seem to understand anything you’re saying, Vanessa”
I was confused at her words and I hope she clears the air about it.
“Nicholas hadn’t told you anything about his family yet, right?” I nodded. “You shouldn’t be hearing it from me, it is Nicholas’s story and it sure his to tell”
I didn’t want to pry further so I stopped asking any questions and only followed to have a nice breakfast.
After breakfast, I went back to Nicholas’s room, I sat on the couch, put Netflix on, and found myself a new series, tiny pretty things, to watch. I was on the fourth episode when Nicholas came in.
“Hey baby doll,” He came over to where I was sitting, bent his head down, and kissed me.
“Hey, where’ve you been?” I asked
“Trying to plan an escapade for us”
“Escapade?”
“Yes, go get dressed babe, I’m taking you out for dinner, movies, and games, but movies first”
“Why?”
“That’s a way of saying I’m trying to woo you over till you feel I’m worthy enough to be yours. I know I don’t deserve an amazing woman like you, but I want to prove it to you that I can be better and to get your forgiveness, baby doll”
“There’s nothing to forgive, Nicholas. Like you said, it’s all in the past and it’s time to move on”
He held my face close before dropping his lip on my forehead.
“If you say so, May. But I want you to get up, take that cute ass of yours up my sofa, and get dressed so we can get out of here and have some fun, okay?”
“What about the burial arrangement? Ain’t you sad that your father died?”
“It’s going on well, Richard is in charge of almost everything”
“Don’t you miss him?” I decide to our further
“Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about it. I mean, I only got to know he existed about five years ago when my mom died. He’d always kept in touch with her”
The revelation was new to me. “Your mom is dead! Tiffany is not your mother”
“No baby doll” He sat beside me and pulled my body closer to his. “I’m sorry I never took you home back then to introduce you to my real mother, you would’ve loved her. The day I wanted to take you was the day when I found out about that stuff”
He didn’t need to mention what the stuff was before I understand what he was talking about.
“It’s okay, Nicholas. It’s all in the past now”
“Is that like our word now?”
We both laughed at that.
“Thank you for coming back to me and before you say anything, get that pretty ass up and get dressed baby, let’s leave this place for a while”
That day, we only went for a walk, after we couldn’t pick out a movie at the cinema. When the sun had set, we took a walk down the street, hand in hand, talking about high school, friends we had, and life in general.
Sometimes when I feel his eyes on me, before I could turn to look back at him, he’ll turn to look at another direction. I love the way he smiles when he sees a little baby, I love the way my hand fits into his and I can’t stop myself from smiling when he does. His smile is like a magnet that draws my heart towards his.
The next time we went out, we decided to try out the cinema again. We got to the cinema, a bit distance away from the palace. I waited at a corner while Nicholas went on to get the tickets for the movie and some popcorn.
I didn’t bother checking what movie it was, thinking I could trust Nicholas not to pick a horror movie until I got into the cinema and realized it was a rerun of The IT.
Twenty minutes into the movie, after screaming, holding Nicholas’s shirt for half of the time, throwing my popcorn into the face of whoever was unfortunate to sit beside me, I ran out of the hall.
“That was evil, Nicholas” I pointed at him when I saw he was behind me.
“That was fun, especially when you looked like you wanted to faint”
He laughed.
“I’m not talking to you anymore” I retorted to silence and started walking towards the car park.
“Come on, May. I’m sorry about that. I didn’t know you weren’t into horror movies”
I turned to glare at him because he knew how much I hated watching horror movies.
“I said I’m sorry, baby doll. Don’t get mad at daddy like that. What do you want? A kiss, a hug, a car, a yacht? Daddy will do anything for you baby, just say it”
My back was turned to him so that made it easier for me to smile as he couldn’t see.
“How about your head on a plate of gold?”
“Don’t be so mean, baby”
I smiled, got into the car, and waited for him to join me.
I loved it anything he called me baby even more than I love him calling me baby doll.
“Am I forgiven?”
“Maybe, depending on how much you feed me at dinner. I’m starving” I pouted.
“You poor baby! I’ll feed you till you can’t eat anymore then I’ll take you home and fuck you till your legs can’t walk no more”
He took my bottom lip into his mouth before taking my full lips. I threw my hand around his neck kissing him back the same way he was kissing me.
“Let’s feed you first, we’ll continue that later” I nodded, and we went on to dinner.
Mid dinner, we received a call from the palace. The King needed Nico’s attention and we didn’t have a choice but to go back and get to it.
“I’m really sorry I called you here like that Nicholas and May, I know I messed up your date but please forgive me for my act”
I quickly waved his apology off, “it’s fine, your Majesty. We were almost done when you called”
“Thank you, May. Let’s get into my office, Aslam. We have a whole lot to discuss. There’s an emergency…” The King gestured for Nicholas to follow him, but my man stopped and gave me a fat kiss, right in front of the King and promised to be back soon.
My man!
I smiled at that thought as I walked into the elevator, leading to his room.
“You know you’re just part of a fucking plan, right?”
Guess who!
“Before I say anything else, let me give you a little demo”
He tapped the button of his phone and when the voice recorded started talking, I knew who it was.
At that point, I saw hell broke loose right in my head.
