“Sor—” before my apology leaves my lips. I am pulled into a wall of an embrace. Warmth fills me. The scent of sandalwood and citrus.
Luka.
“Hey beautiful. What's wrong? Why are you just standing out here?” He looks down at me concern furrowing his brow.
“Uh… Sorry, It’s going to sound crazy.” I begin to explain. I paused and looked up to his eyes. Soft blue eyes waited patiently for me to continue. I drew strength from them to go on.
“Okay so, I wanted to come find you, and I dont know how to explain it but I had this tug to come up here and to this room. I followed it. But I wasn’t sure if I should knock because I heard a voice talking…. I didn’t want to interrupt.”
Luka leans down kissing me on the forehead. “ in this house you can open any door you want and you will never be interrupting because whatever I’m doing is not as important as anything you need or want.”
I look at at him the honesty in his gaze caught me by surprise, but it shouldn’t be a surprise to me by now because he’s always been like this with me since I’ve met him but still I’ve been a loss for words with how much a man who is just met me not that long ago. Think I’m more important than anything.

That dang word, plays in my mind it’s the only thing that makes sense. And it feels right with him. I don’t know if he feels the same or if he has the same word floating around in his brain, but it just fits for me.
“Beautiful I love how you are just staring at me, but is there something you needed to talk to me about or tell me because you had to come find me and you found me so what’s up?”
“ oh yeah sorry, can we keep going to the hospital soon, please? I just got in contact with Jess and apparently my mom woke up but she was freaking out and they had to sedate her. Just thinks maybe if I’m there it’ll help calm her down.”
“Absolutely let’s go. I just gotta grab my keys so we can be off.” Luka show me out the door and we start walking back the way I came.
“Are the Holloways still here?” Luka asks as we round the corner.
“When I left the room they were and yes, but they were all getting phone calls. All of a sudden it was strange.” I explained.
“I see” was Lukas only response.
“ is there something wrong?” I asked because that wasn’t his typical response to things with me.
“Possibly I’ll tell you more in the car let’s go can’t leave your mom waiting” he said smiling at Me. And that was enough to ease me.
We get to the front door he pauses a second.
“ hold on real quick”
Before I can reply or say anything, he’s off and striding off to the room where all the Holloways were before I found him. He was back within moments. They looked at him and he just ushered me through the door.
We get to his truck and he helps me and like before. The moment he climbs in and shuts the door the engine is running and we’re already pulling out of the driveway.
“So what's going on? I feel like someone’s going on.” I explained.
“ Phil has been trying to get in contact with Chad’s parents”
Why is he trying to do that? I asked.
Because Chad is next in line to take the alpha role with his parents pass away
OK, I asked confused
“I know it’s a lot, but I’m gonna give you a quick rundown of how things are. Phil is one of the alphas of the pack around here, Chad‘s Dad is the alpha of the pack to the east of here. As a courtesy, Phil wanted to see if Chad’s dad knew about this attack because attacking another pack on what has been documented as neutral meeting grounds at the hotel could be a war between packs.”
“Is that what the laws were and why he had that girl attack me?”
“Yes, he seems to think that’s a way to get around because Monica doesn’t technically belong to a pack like you don’t technically belong to a pack. So you’re not enforced to follow the rules to the same degree as me, the Holloways, Chad’s family pack are there are. The only major rule you can’t break is that you can’t just out us to non supernatural people.”
“But like you said I'm not in a pack.” I retort back. “So, how is what Chad did considered attacking a pack member?”
“ you are correct in saying that you’re not a packed member because you haven’t gone through the initiation and the test testing to making sure you understand all the rules especially because you weren’t born into a pack, but you are under the protection of my pack and the Holloways pack” Luka explained
“ wait when did that happen? I didn’t know about that.” I racked my brain trying to think of when that could have happened.
“your family has been under pack protection by the Holloways since Phil became alpha of his pack, so you have been protected since birth, I have decided to have you protected since the moment I met you.”
“ the Holloways I can understand they’ve been a part of my life my whole life Phil was my dad’s best friend. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but you just met me. Why would you protect me like that?”
“You haven’t figured that out?” Luka asked one brow raised.

That word played again in my head, but I didn’t want to admit to it “ no not really not logically” I half admitted. Because in a way it didn’t make sense that word but also it didn’t. It wasn’t something that I could admit to believing into not yet it was just too much.
“ that’s fine. You will soon or someday I can wait. I’m a patient man.” Luka chuckle to himself like he told a funny joke.
“So what happens now?” I asked,
“ I take you to your mother” Luca winked.
“ I know that’s where you’re taking me but what about the whole chat thing in the vampires?” I asked
“ there’s nothing you can do right now we’ll figure it out later. Plus we have people investigating and watching if we start pushing too much Chad and his family might go underground and we might not get the answers we want so right now as much as it sucks We just have to live day-to-day and figure out your wolf thing in your powers and what you’re able to do if anything that is because the white wolf is a myth and we don’t know too much for certain just lots of rumors”
“OK” I didn’t like that, but he was right there was not much I could do until I figured it out my connection with the white wolf hopefully with my mom waking up, she can answer some of our questions. How am I a wolf shifter? how did nobody know? Did she know? Did my dad know this was gonna be a lot and it was gonna open up a whole new can of worms but with Luka right here with me, I felt safe I felt ready for what came next.
We got to the hospital. I could see just pacing she was full of anxiety when she turned and saw me she ran to me almost knocking me to the ground in the biggest hug ever. Hearing her voice on the phone meant a lot to me. It told me that she was OK but seeing she was OK, hugging me and being here in front of me was a whole new sigh of relief. I didn’t know I was holding. I start crying she was crying. He looked crazy. We laughed and hugged harder. It was amazing.

No, but they said the sedatives will be wearing off soon. You might get lucky and see if she’s awake.
“OK, thank you”
“Do you want me to come with you?” Jess asked.
“I don’t know” I replied, feeling insured something felt weird.
“I can wait by the door if you want?” Jess offered.
“Maybe”
“Let’s all go together” Lukas suggested.
“Yes that sounds like a great idea. Let’s do that.” Jess agreed.
“OK” they agreed, even though something just was prickling on the back of my neck as if in warning.
“If you change your mind, we can leave and give you space” Jess offered
“ OK thank you”
We got to my mother‘s room and I paused. He racing down my back. Something wasn’t right it wasn’t afraid but something tasted wrong on my tongue. Luka started looking around. Did he feel it too?
“What’s the matter?” Jess asked.
“ oh nothing I just got a bad taste in my mouth. It was weird.” a half truth.
“ oh OK help with this I meet you in a minute I’ll go grab you a drink OK” jess tell me as she runs off. As soon as she’s out of earshot.
“ do you feel that?” I asked.
“ no but I can sense that you’re bothered by something” luka tells me.
“ something feels off to me my back just flashed hot but not with danger. I don’t know. I’m not danger. I know that but something is wrong like really wrong. I don’t know how else explain it” I tell him.
“ OK we proceed with caution. I’m here with you and you’re safe OK?”
“ OK”
We get in the room and I see my mom sleeping in the bed. I am so relieved to see her at rest, the slow rise and fall over our chest. Slowly, the machine start beeping a little faster and I watch her eyes flutter open. I wanna cry I wanna fall over my mom was waking up. My mom was OK. My mom was looking at me. My mom was looking at me weirdly why did she look at me like that?
“Who are you?” My mother asks in a cold voice that I don’t recognize no familiar warmth no smile no twinkle in her eye. What happened?
“Mom, it’s me” I pleaded with her, but she didn’t recognize me. Didn’t recognize me.
“that’s impossible There was no way I have a daughter what games are you playing at?” she questions Coldly. I watched her sit up. And move into a defensive position. Then she sniff the air. Then sniffed it again. Cold anger filled her gay at me.
“Why do you have my wolf”
