Chapter 28 Chapter 28

Chapter 28 Chapter 28
Silas's pov

I thought I was seeing things. Sisilya stood by the hallway, sneaking in like she was some teenager who had joined a party and had come home at the dead hour.

By morning, I met her the same way I had seen her the previous night. The only difference was she wasn't sneaking around. She kept making her way in and out of the kitchen like it belonged to her.

I had patiently waited by the door of the living room to see if she'd leave but her constant in and out showed she wasn't. Minutes later, she was out and she went up to her room, while I made my way into the kitchen.

I noticed a plate sitting in the kitchen with a purple liquid dancing in it. I was close to lifting the plate to sniff it when she popped behind me like a freaking ghost.

“What are you doing here?” Her lips bent in frown as she caught my eyes. Everything about her made me cringe to the brim.

I ignored her, making my way out of the kitchen. Seeing that she had already established herself there, I had the housekeeper make me breakfast instead.

“Silas” Her voice still followed me out of the kitchen. She was beginning to get on my nerves and I hated how much leverage I had given her out of pity. “I'm talking to you and you have the guts to walk out on me?”

I stopped, standing between the hallway and the stairs to my room as I turned lazily to face her. “What do you want?” I sighed, knowing that her exact words would be nothing but a reflection of her foolishness.

She rolled her eyes, “What is this about you and your brothers being so disrespectful towards me? I mean, we are a family now, we are supposed to stick together, aren't we?”

Her words caused me to snort. What was she really thinking? That I'd be the one to warm up to her because Reis and Ruan would kill her if they get the chance to?

She stared at me confused. “What's so funny about what I said?”

I turned to mount the stairs, one leg up and the other down. “It'll be so funny if you really expect me to brush your shoulders all because you think that I'm supposed to be the odd one. Go feed that nonsense to your daughter.” I spat as I ascended the stairs, paying deaf to her calling.

If there was something I had hated since Luceila stepped into this house was the fact that her scent was everything. It was so hard to get over, no matter what part of the house we were in.

My room was down the hall to the right, hers was in the opposite direction. I could smell her like she was standing in front of me. All I could do without getting into trouble was peek and disappear.

Something I knew my brother would die to do as long as they were able to get a glimpse of her.

I narrowed down her side of the hallway, hoping to see her. I was almost close to her door when my phone rang so loud that I felt her jump from her bed and head for her door. Before she could pop her head outside her door, I raced into my room.

I took out my phone to see Draven calling me. Despite how disappointed I was, I still swiped across the answer button and had the phone in my ear.

“This better be something important.” I growled, dreading how I'd pounce on him if he had called me for a stupid reason.

His sneaky laugh came up from the end of the phone and it itched me close to irritation. “You must've been engaged in some nasty activity, haven't you?” The way he spoke made me feel like he was in the same room with me.

“Draven” I stretched, I was getting uncomfortable. Plus, Luceila's scent was filling my nose again even without my door being open.

“Hey, chill. Obviously you're not in your living room because if you were, you wouldn't be lashing out as you are right now.” I quickly rushed out of my room when he finished, only to get downstairs and find him settled in like he owned the place.

I slapped the back of his head as I settled into the chair beside him. “You came in without telling me, you little freak. What if I wasn't at home?”

Draven laughed it off, not caring how I felt about it. “I know when you're home and when you're not.” He let out with so much confidence.

I hissed, throwing his words behind me like they meant nothing. Draven was that one person that knew just how to get me to knot my fists into his face.

The housekeeper brought in cookies and Draven instantly dived in, not waiting for me to take even one bite. I ate rather slowly, my gaze fell with each bite.

That scent hit me again and I couldn't get my mind to stop roaming.

“Have you been thinking about her?” His question hit me and I had to bat my eyes a few times to be able to prepare a lie.

I shook it off, “Who? Luceila? Why would I do that? You know she's my stepsister so I can't think of her in that way.” I played the act like I was born for it. Draven even had to glance at me a few more times before he let out a short laugh.

He sent a cookie into his mouth. “Yeah, I believe you.” He chewed loudly like he deliberately wanted to get me angry. “I definitely believe you, no doubts.” A snicker followed.

Before I could open my mouth to say anything, Luceila descended the stairs and walked into the living room where we sat. The moment she saw us, she paused like she was under a spell.

One could easily tell that she wasn't much of a people person and seeing Draven seated so comfortably shook something in her, something she wasn't expecting.

“Oh, I'm sorry I didn't—”

“It's okay.” Draven flashed his gracious smile, “You obviously weren't expecting anyone to be here, I'm sorry I startled you.” He sent another cookie flying into his mouth again. The way he ate irked me.

But nothing disgusted me than the way he was smiling at her like she mattered more in the world. And just like always, she was enjoying the attention, smiling from ear to ear.

I cleared my throat. “I'm sure you didn't come down here to have yourself flattered by my friend or are you looking for someone else to leach your fake innocence on?” That earned a slap to the shoulders from Draven.

I didn't need to say anything else before Luceila slunk away like she was never there. My heart beat slowed down for a minute. When I turned to take a cookie, Draven had swallowed everything and he wasn't smiling.

“You're starting to get on my nerves and it's sick how fast it's working.” He started typing something on his phone. It was his way of showing that I had annoyed him.

I dismissed his words, killing anything that smelt like remorse. “She'll be fine. She does this all the time so I'm not surprised.”

Draven hissed and for one, it was loud and I felt it. “I wouldn't blame her for the distance. I mean you and your brothers are just too old to realize that no matter how much hatred you guys hold against her, she'll always be a part of this house forever.” He stood up, still on his phone.

I frowned, “Leaving already? Don't tell me it's because of her?” My arms rested on the chair as I waited for him to clear me of my thoughts.

“No. I'm going out to meet Nathan. There's been a raid on the border and he needs my help finding out who did it.”

I jolted to my feet, loving the news I was hearing. Finally, something that will take me out of this house. I didn't waste time saying anything else, I raced him to the door.

The frown on Draven’s face lifted to a grin. “I thought you weren't so excited to leave the house?”

I waved him off. “Not when this is happening. Come on, let's go investigate some borders.”
