CHAPTER 283

CHAPTER 283
ELEANOR'S POV

I felt all the hairs at the nape of my neck rise, the sight of my child screaming from the horror he was through eliciting pain in my soul.

The darkness began making promises again, but I shook my head, this wasn't what we agreed on. I gave in to it, because it promised to get my child back but all we've done is drive Vlad to the edge of madness and now, he held the most important part of my life dangling over a three-storey balcony with a butchering knife.

My parents were right to run into hiding instead of trying to fight him directly.

We'd flown too close to the sun and now, I was on the verge of losing my child.

“Let's go,” I said to Nic despite the turbulent feeling in my head.

But he wasn't next to me anymore, in one flip second, he was running towards the large gate.

I watched in dismay as he climbed the gate like an aggressive monkey on drugs, despite the electric shocks on the iron spirals.

“Nicolai!” I screamed at him, “Come back! He's going to – ooh,” I cried as I felt, heard, and saw the knife slide into my baby.

“You should listen to your bitch Nicolai,” Vlad chuckled, “I'm not going to stop until he stops screaming like a banshee!” He cackled, his voice grating against my ears.

Xander wasn't crying anymore, he'd stopped breathing, he'd stopped…

I stopped feeling my entire existence in that moment, I was frozen in place, yet I could feel the blood seeping out of my palms as I tore through the skin barrier with my own claws

The pain was looking for an outlet, and my eyes watched as he plunged the knife again, even as Nic climbed the building like a spider.

The closer he got, the more aggressive Vlad got, his aggression turning into fear.

“Baby come so you'll catch him!” Nic’s voice snapped me out of my stupor and I ran, unaware of everything but my child and the roaring darkness in my head. I didn't realise when I got through the gate, the shocks seemed to be getting to someone else, my body unfeeling.

I sliced through soldiers, snuffing out lives with ease as I ran towards the building.

I got to the spot right as Nic finally got to his father.

“Now!” He screamed as he plunged his claws into Vlad's neck.

And the bastard let Xander's lifeless body go.

He free-fell into my arms, and even though I couldn't feel a heartbeat, I kept pouring blood into his body, every orifice in his form, I shoved my blood into his eyes.

Then I felt a nick at my side, forcing me to look up.

The soldiers were coming for me, swords and fangs out.

My wolf let out a blood-curdling growl, the grounds shook and they all moved back.

But I was pissed, all my pain made me deranged and I couldn't find a way out.

I held onto his body, but the warmth I was trying so hard to contain was gone.

I began to hyperventilate, the realization hitting so hard I couldn't breathe.

He was gone, truly gone.

“Elly,” I heard a familiar voice, “let us take him home.”

“Daddy he's dead,” I cried, “I killed him, I let him die. He should have taken me instead, why did he take my son?”

“Shhh,” he gathered me in his arms, “let me handle him, go and help your mate. You need to put this anger on Vlad or you'll never recover from this pain okay?”

“We need to go now Luc,” Dad Reed tapped his brother's shoulder, “her blood is powerful but still, it might not work if we're too late.”

“There's still hope?” I asked, mist covering my eyesight.

They looked at each other.

“We're not so sure,” Dad Reed said as he took him from me, “but we'll hate ourselves forever if we don't try.”

That was as much of a no as I was gonna get. If there was hope, they'd be happy to tell me, if only to stop me from feeling so empty yet filled with darkness powered by pain.

I guess they just wanted to take him from me so we could at least achieve something. Xander's death couldn't be in vain and I agreed with that.

I stepped back, looking at the war happening all over the large compound, wolves, vampires, witches, and faeries were all gathered.

All of Vlad's forces had been called to the headquarters as well and I could see trucks piling up and offloading soldiers with a weird energy about them.

But it didn't matter; the battle that was a deciding factor was up there and I hated that I couldn't hear a word.

I looked back again and I saw my fathers zipping off through the crowd, my child's body with them.

My heart broken again into millions of pieces.

I turned around and walked into the building, I found the stairs and I began heading up.

I wasn't hurrying, I had a weird relationship with the darkness now as I headed towards where it wanted me to go.

For once, we were on one page.

“Hey!” Somebody yelled as I turned towards the third level of the staircase, “stop walking!” The person screamed with what would be an amazing authoritative voice if he weren't talking to me.

I turned around and a gasp left my lips.

“You!” I snarled, the face of the Captain that planned all of this rushing towards me. “You did this! You deceived him until you brought that monster back to life!”

“I don't regret it one bit, it had to be done! If you weren't so fucking meddlesome, your son would have been alive!”

“I should kill you quickly and be done with it,” I spat, “but fuck no! You deserve pain!”

He seemed too confident for my liking, still rushing towards me.

“Your protective mate isn't here to save you, so you better listen and go back downstairs. Your parents have already abandoned you, no one will stop me from –”

I clawed out his throat in one angry swipe.

“Let me at him!” Riot demanded and I didn't hold her back.

When I shifted, I watched as Riot tore into him, tearing his flesh one by one, bones crushing.

“We need to head up,” Hazel spoke up, “it's too quiet.”

I shifted back, peeled clothes off a dead soldier, and covered my body.

“DON'T MOVE!” I compelled the bastard and his eyes lit with shock as his own body refused to listen to his mouth.

I bent down and plucked out the bulbs, he didn't need those eyes anyway.

I ran the remaining steps and I followed the mating bond through the room and towards the balcony.

He wasn't there, it was his blood I'd been following.

I forced myself to take a steadying breath and I actually found the invisible cord and I followed, my heart thundering.

The door was slightly ajar and I pushed forward. I saw Vlad's mangled body first.

Then Nic, his eyes were pitch black, tears streaming from them, was sitting before the body, rocking back and forth with his hands wrapped around his knees.

“I killed our child,” he muttered with sorrow in his voice, “but instead of overwhelming guilt, all I feel is anger. All I want to do is destroy the world. It didn't need to have me, I shouldn't have been born. Why would the universe give this animal a child?! And then all it does is give me one moment of peace and then take back everything. I'm done fighting Elly, I'm fucking done!”

“Me too baby,” I sighed, sitting down next to him as we let the anger grow in our souls.

It was better than feeling nothing.
