Book 2. Nine - Regret 1

Book 2. Nine - Regret 1
Up until now, I’ve tried to keep all my feelings in check so I could stay levelheaded, because I can’t afford to make any mistakes, but seeing one of my men hurt fills me with so much rage, I see red in front of my eyes. So I unleash all my anger, which all brings more clarity, and I point at everything that moves—shooting, injuring, killing So’oks as I push forward, determined to get us out of here before Zun or Xak get injured as well. The others are right behind me, Zun taking down incoming enemies as well.
I only stop once, while Zun covers for me, to grab a couple of laser guns from the dead So’oks and hand them to the Myrris. Zun already has one, but I give him another anyway. Seeing him kill several enemies at once makes me want to fuck him hard, but that will have to wait.
Armed as we are, we head for the exit. Getting out isn’t easy. More and more So’oks become aware of our presence, determined to either capture us alive or kill us if that’s not possible. I don’t like either option, so I’ll go with a third—kill as many of them as we can and get the fuck out of here in one piece.
We move fast, trying not to get killed, aiming right and left, in front and behind, taking out as many So’oks as we can. Near the exit, one of the Myrris gets injured—shot in the left knee a second before I fry the brain of the So’ok who hit him. He grunts loudly in pain before killing two soldiers who thought attacking us from behind was a good idea.
“Are you alright?” I ask over my shoulder as another So’ok goes down.
“Never better,” the Myrris lies through gritted teeth. He’s the one helping Zun carry Xak out.
The leg of his light blue pants below the injured knee is turning indigo—probably the color of his blood. Once we’re out of here, we’ll have to treat his leg right away so he doesn’t bleed out. There are still a few packs of nanorobots left in Zun’s backpack—one for Cax and the last for the Myrris. If anyone else gets injured, we’ll have to split them.
“Good,” I say, aiming at a nearby machine and blasting it apart before turning my attention back to the incoming So’oks.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity of dodging, shooting, and killing, we make it out alive. But we’re not out of danger yet. Not until we are back at the base, and everyone knows of the threat present on Azuron.
We take refuge in a nearby chamber, darkness draping around us like a thick blanket. Our backs press against the walls, hands covering our mouths and noses, laser guns pointed at the tunnel before us. Seconds later, a large group of So’ok soldiers rushes past. I stop breathing, waiting for them to disappear down the tunnel.
The stomping of heavy boots against solid ground echoes on and on, stretching for what feels like minutes—until, finally, the sound fades into the distance. Finally, silence follows, but we still don’t dare move. Not for many minutes more, until we are sure that’s the only group looking for us.
Eventually, one of the Myrris whispers, his voice barely audible, “I’ll take a glance at the tunnel. Someone cover for me.”
I nod once, and then he moves slowly until he’s right at the entrance, scanning right and left.
“Clear,” he whispers once more, his voice slightly louder this time.
We leave the chamber behind and go in the same direction the So’oks went. It doesn’t take long to reach a part of the tunnel that splits in two. One of them has a small X, made by Zun earlier, to indicate that we have already inspected it. I don’t know what awaits us in the other tunnel.
“Which way do you think the So’oks wen?” I ask no one in particular.
It is Zun who tries to guess, “Right? Maybe left?”
“So, which way should we go?” I wonder.
The Myrris who got shot grunts, “Left.”
The unmarked tunnel.
“Alright,” I agree, glancing at the injured Myrris. “But first, we need to take care of your injuries—and Cax’s.”
I move to Zun and grab the nanorobots from his backpack, splitting them into three equal parts—one for Cax, one for Xak, and the last for the Myrris.
Once the nanorobots start healing their injuries, I expect Cax and Xak to snap out of their drugged state. But whatever sedatives they were given, it’ll take time for them to fully leave their systems.
While we wait for the nanorobots to do their thing, the Myrris tell us their names—Tarev, Syrel, and Eryth. Tarev is the one who got injured. Once his leg is healed, we start moving again, faster this time.
The tunnel is long, with no chambers or caverns in sight to hide in case of danger. At least, we reach a quite spacious cavern that appears to have been home to the Yetharis, but it’s now deserted, probably because of the So’oks.
We stop here for a couple of hours to get some rest and see if we can find something to eat and drink. The Myrris keep an eye on Cax and Xak while Zun and I rummage through the ruins of the Yetharis straw huts, and eventually we find dried meat, nuts, and roots. The cavern has no source of water, but in the last hut, we find something: three full waterskins. Zun picks up one, removes the cap, and smells the contents.
“Well?” I ask impatiently, feeling like I’m dying of thirst.
Before he replies, he takes one small sip, then says, “Alcohol. Made from wild fruits.”
It’s not what I had hoped for, but it will have to do for now.
Eager to quench my thirst, I snatch the waterskin from Zun and take a big gulp. Big, fucking mistake. The strong liquid not only burns my throat, but it also makes my head spin. But it doesn’t stop there.
I’m starting to become hyper aware of how close Zun, the heat emanating from his body, the way his scent wraps around me, making me drunk with lust, the way my heart beats fast against my ribcage, or the way my chest rises and falls fast.
Before I know what I’m doing, I take another sip, while looking straight into Zun’s eyes. A few drops of alcohol escape my mouth and run down my chin. Zun dips down his head and licks my skin, cleaning it before taking the waterskin from me and drinking the rest of the alcohol.
I place a palm against his chest, while with my other hand, I grab one of his wrists and guide his fingers between my legs.
“I need you right fucking here,” I moan, while the heel of his palm presses against my clit. “I need your big, hard cock deep inside me fucking me hard before filling me with your delicious cum.”
