Chapter 27

Amelia's POV

I opened my eyes slowly and for a moment, I was disoriented. The white light entered my eyes and I had to squint. I was a bit confused at first about where I was until I remembered that I had just given birth to a pair of twins.

I felt a smile bloom on my face and I sat up. I still felt a bit groggy but I didn't mind. At that moment, I was very happy.

I looked to my side and I saw Asher, the smile on my face got a bit wider. He was carrying both twins and his hands were full. He looked cool and mature as he rocked the twins gently. He looked up and noticed that I was awake and he spoke,

“Hi… I would come to you but ..” he gestured at the twins in his arms and I giggled. I understood what he was trying to say, we wouldn't want the twins to wake up and start crying.

“You look good being a father,” I said and he paused a bit. I could see that he was feeling a bit down and I wondered why.

“I hope I'm a better father than I was a husband,” he replied and I looked away.

I wasn't a great mother, was I? He is currently holding the child of another man and yet he doesn't know. I felt bad for lying to him and the guilt I had been trying to suppress for months now came spilling out.

“I'm really sorry,” he said to her and I looked at him. I smiled a bit, feeling even more guilty but I tried not to let it show. I might have made the mistake of lying to him before but I wanted to do better.

I loved Asher very much and all of those slumbering feelings had awoken once more when I saw how much he cared for me. I wanted to give us another chance.

“Me too.” I apologized to him also. I had also been distant due to my guilt for lying to him and it had affected our relationship a lot. I felt like I had to apologise to him too.

It was quiet for a moment and then I gestured for him to hand over one of the twins. I wanted to hold my child, to feel them close to me. I really loved them so much.

Asher got up as gently as possible and handed one of them over as quietly but his attempt to not wake them up failed and the one he handed over to me woke up and cooed a little.

I giggled and I reached down my finger to scratch him a little but the moment I did, he opened his eyes to look at me.

I froze and my heart seemed to slow down. Those piercing silver eyes, that coldness even though it wasn't intentional, it felt like my soul was being seen through.

He knew Asher knew that this was not his children. These eyes could never be mistaken and they could only have been inherited. They were too piercing and too cold to have been to a normal child.

I felt my world turn over and I tuned everything else out. It was over for me, Asher was finally going to send me away. Where would I go? How would I survive? Who could I run to?

I wasn't like before when I would be the only one suffering, this time, I have a pair of twins to worry about. There was no way I would give them to that cold-hearted man, no way!!

I burst into tears, rivers flowing down my cheeks as I became lost in my own thoughts. I felt someone touch me and I shiver. I was scared and I felt alone. It was like I was back there, back in that house.

I wept for a long time, I didn't know how long or what had happened throughout that time. I was drowning in my misery and I couldn't care less if the world burned.

But then I remembered I had a child now, two in fact. I couldn't be thinking like this anymore, I have to step up and take responsibility. No matter what, I would make sure my children doesn't grow up the way I did.

I came back to reality and I wiped my tears and snot. I regained my composure. I began thinking of what do do next but then I noticed something out of the corner of my eyes. It was Asher and he was standing by the door, looking at me.

I was scared at first, I was afraid that he might be angry at me, tat he might try to harm me or my children. I wanted to move to protect them but my body was weak.

“How long have you been standing there? What do you want?” I asked cautiously, trying as much as possible to make my voice sound steady.

“Amelia… I'm not your enemy,..”

“How can you say that!!!! I lied to you for months! I gave you false hope!! Aren't you supposed to be angry?! Furious?!”

“I guess… but even with everything you did, I didn't exactly respond in a good way either. I love you so much Amelia, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you even if it means having to love another man's child.”

I looked into his deep green eyes and I could see the sincerity in them. This was the Asher I fell in love with, this was my Asher.

He slowly approached me and sat beside my bed and without thinking, I hugged him right and I began to cry again. I was happy and sad at the same time.

“I promise to always tell you the truth from now on.” I said to him but he shushed me and kept on patting my back to console me.

“It's okay, I also promise to be a better husband from now on.”
