Chapter 11
Damien's POV
‘These bastards! It's been weeks now and there's still no information about Amelia. How is that possible? How useless can these fools be?’
‘I've had almost half of the guards thrown in the dungeon along with more than half the maids. They are all a bunch of useless lots anyway, it's not like it matters.’
I looked out the window, my face placid even though thoughts go extreme fury filled my mind. During the first few days, I had thrown a tantrum, breaking everything in sight and even injuring my guards, but now, all of that fury was inside me.
I've actually learned that I could sharpen my senses by gathering all those emotions and harnessing the negativity of it. My eyes were very calm, my mood unreadable, but I was at my sharpest, I was at my peak.
I guess I have to thank Amelia again, after all, ever since she came into my life I've learnt some new things. The harnessing of my anger is one, and the other is the fact that how much you enjoyed sex depended on the partner.
I feel my anger rising up once again as I thought of her, that ungrateful bitch! I had taken care of her and given her such good sex and yet this is how she repays me?
I should have just made her a slave after all. She must have gotten proud after she found out that I sent away most of my previous concubines. She must have let that get to her head, that's why, that's why she left.
What a fool, she must have thought I couldn't do without her, she probably didn't even know that I only liked her for the sex. Tch.
I took in a deep breath, my gaze unwavering. My outward appearance nothing compared to my inner thoughts. I think I might be getting a split personality.
I turned around, walking out of the room and strolling along the corridors. As I passed, they all averted my gaze, some even going as far as to change direction after spotting me.
The usual me would have lashed out in anger, but the me of now was different. I ignored them, pretending like I didn't care, I strolled along the garden, walking about without a particular goal in mind.
Then, I saw a particular beta sitting around. He saw me approaching but didn't avert my gaze or even scurry away.
I got to his front, nodding when he greeted me. I looked him dead in the eye, I could hear his thumping heart, his pores as they squeezed out sweat and his bones creaking as he trembled beneath my gaze, probably regretting his decision of not running away when he had the chance.
“I take it you have something to tell me?”
My voice was an octave lower and I must say, I loved this new me more. I had always been one to care about power and this new me gave me power. I could make people fear me without even raising my voice, I could make them tremble beneath my gaze and my castle has been run even better than it had ever been without my constant direction.
Even at the pack meeting, there were barely any complaints even Asher was quieter than usual. He had always had his guard up around me but now, it was even more, like I would make a move at any moment.
I would presently be smirking, but my heart was too cold to care, my smile slowly disappearing, and even my inner wolf was beginning to exude a different aura.
The beta just stared at me, his mouth opening and closing several times, his chest rising and falling as he was out of breath.
I could have toned my aura down, but I don't. Apart from the fact that an action like that would make me look soft, it just wasn't in my nature to give a fuck about anyone else.
“Speak,” I commanded
“Y–yes sir. L–la–ady Amelia i–is at al–alpha Asher's castle. I–I hear s–she was now his b–bri–bride.”
The fool all bit stuttered, he was about to say something more when he began hyperventilating. My aura had suddenly grown so intense, he probably felt like he was about to die.
His instinct wasn't wrong though, I was going to kill him. My anger was driving me crazy and it took a lot out of me to control myself. All the negativity rushed through my blood vessels, fueling me with strength and bloodlust.
I felt like I could probably kill him with just a swipe of my claws. But I stopped myself at the last moment, well, it was actually someone else that stopped me.
I looked beside me at the man that just arrived. His grey hair and beard showed his age, but the wrinkles on his face were so few he looked many years younger. He exuded a calming aura that made one think of him as a fatherly figure. His blue eyes were deep like oceans, a gentle light passing through them as he looked at me.
This old man was my guardian and butler, Uriel. The only person I gave a fuck about and the only person in this castle that wasn't terrified of me. Uriel hated killing, especially when I was the one doing it and hence, I avoided killing in his presence.
“The news is not new. They've known for a week now.” He said, the tone of his voice implying a deeper meaning.
Uriel had never been one to hold back on his words. He disliked the fact that I ruled so forcefully hence he was trying to let me know that had I been less terrifying, I would have found out about this news a week ago.
I looked back at the beta, deciding to let him go for his act of bravery. It must have taken a lot of guts for him to have approached me even when he knew he could lose his life. I was pretty sure he would never do something so stupid again.
I turned, heading back towards the castle, Uriel trailing behind me. As I walked I began to analyse my next move.
What could have been Asher's motive? He clearly knew she was my property and he most definitely knew better than to test my patience by crossing me as such, but still, he went ahead and did it.
I could only think of two reasons for this; the first being that he had finally gone senile and didn't care if an all-out war broke out, a war which he would most likely lose. But I rule that option out, thinking it highly unlikely, after all, Asher was a soft fool, he cared too much about his people and would never risk their lives this way.
The second reason though amusing, I found more likely, and that was that Asher actually liked Amelia, genuinely for that matter.
My eyes narrowed, my gaze turning cold as distant memories flashed through my head. Was history about to repeat itself once more?
My thoughts are interrupted by Uriel's words
“Young master, would you mind me letting the prisoners go? The castle needs to be cleaned properly and guarded by living beings after all.”
I looked back at him, a small warmth spreading through me as I saw his familiar carefree smile. That smile was extremely annoying but now for some reason, it made me feel….. something.
I snuff out the warmness, killing it before it spreads far. I wasn't going to leave space for any emotion, emotions only make one weak.
I turned around, and walked away, not bothering to stop as I spoke,
“You do best to wipe that smile from your face when you speak to me. Do how you see fit with the prisoners. And this will be the last time you suggest something to me.”
After walking a few steps forward, I stopped, turning around and looking back at Uriel. His back was still straight, his eyes warm even though there was no longer a smirk on his face.
I narrowed my gaze, pausing for a bit before speaking to make him feel the gravity and urgency of my next words.
“And arrange for a meeting with Asher. Tell him I'll be collecting what's mine during the meeting and tell him to arrange for it as soon as possible, If not, not even you would be able to save him from my wrath.”
