Chapter 15: True Savior
Julia’s POV:
As much as I was surprised by the voice behind me, my anxious heart could feel a strange solace, as if I truly needed it. Turning my neck around, I saw it was Damon, looking dazzlingly handsome as ever but holding a solemn grimace toward us.
I could see our eyes briefly met, before he stepped inside the room, holding his gallant aura which immediately froze Mr. Todor. He stood up from his chair with a jolt, and his unexpected entry made Yasmine’s sly smile disappear.
“S-Sir!?” After processing the reality, Mr. Todor gulped and tried to pass on a clumsy smile to greet Damon, since as our CEO he held the highest designation in the whole office. “G-Good morning, Sir. Didn’t you apply for leave yesterday? How are you here—”
“I don’t think I should answer you about my daily whereabouts, Mr. Todor. Instead of being nosy about me, why don’t you try to do your job for better?” As expected, Damon silenced him off with his haughty remark which gave me a great relief inside to watch that man getting humiliated before me.
My body unknowingly moved a little closer towards Damon, as if my heart could finally feel at ease now that he was present there. And it seemed upon noticing it, he proceeded to condemn him, “Mr. Todor, didn’t I ask you a question? Who gave you the right to fire Ms. Julia from her job? As per I know, you’re just the Supervisor of this department. So, do you even possess that authority in the first place?”
As if hearing those insulting remarks made the baldy Mr. Todor grit his jaws, he glowered at me before answering, “Sir, you don’t even know what a grave blunder Ms. Julia had done to the company! Our biggest client order with Zed company crossed the delivery deadline and went missing two days ago, but she didn’t even bother to bat an eye at it!
“Due to her careless mistake, the company might face a 14 billion dollar loss, can you believe it? She was in charge of this task…so how could I still forgive this great blunder?”
His loud uproar echoed vibrantly inside the room, making me feel too anxious from inside. Upon hearing his complaint, when Damon turned his gaze back on me, he only asked in a cold, curt voice, “Ms. Julia, am I hearing the truth?”
“Of course not, Sir! I don’t know…but something crazy must’ve happened here!” I voiced out my loud protest, fixing my ardent gaze on Damon as I could see he wasn’t looking at me with a dubious gaze. “Until yesterday I was checking the delivery details and everything was perfectly organized. But today when I tried checking all the emails I had exchanged with that company, all of them were missing! It can’t be possible nonetheless… Besides, not only me, but Yasmine was also in charge of organizing the order.”
When I pointed my finger towards Yasmine this time, since I was determined I wouldn’t let her do as she pleased anymore, I saw a panicked look come on her face. She quickly rushed closer towards Damon and put on an innocent facade while trying to defend herself, “Sir, I had perfectly done my job and I even showed the emails to our Supervisor as proof. But it seems like Ms. Julia is trying to blame me when it was her fault—”
“Then it’s even more doubtful that only her emails are missing and yours are intact.” Interrupting her words with his curt answer, Damon once again made me feel pleased with his true sense of judgment. Instead of judging the whole fiasco based on Mr. Todor’s allegations, he chose to apply his presence of mind, like a true leader in the industry.
His curt voice completely silenced the two of them, but without batting an eye, Damon averted his gaze back on me, “Ms. Julia, then what do you intend to do now?”
“I…I want to investigate the truth, Sir.” I confidently gave my answer, even though I could feel Mr. Todor’s piercing glare towards me, it didn’t waver my iron will. “Please allow me to reach the depth of this matter and by doing that, I am sure I can find the one who has set this trap for me.”
“And why should we give you a chance after you have caused us such a great loss—”
“Mr. Todor, I didn’t give you the permission to speak in between.” When that baldy bastard tried to gnaw at me once again, like my true savior, Damon scolded him which made him immediately apologize.
Exhaling a big sigh, Damon rolled his big dark eyes at me for a brief moment before he rumbled aloud towards them, “Ms. Julia is one of our valuable employees who has never committed any small mistake before. So, I also feel she must investigate this matter as long as her work here won’t be very interrupted by it. From now onwards, I will be in charge of dealing with this mishap, so Mr. Todor…I hope you won’t meddle in any further.”
“Tsk…okay…Sir.” With heavy reluctance in his tone, Mr. Todor was forced to comply with his command, but I could visibly notice Yasmine’s face turned pale with a nervousness apparent in her. Without wasting a second more, Damon instructed me to walk outside and head to my work desk, following after him.
But before I could grab the doorknob, I heard Yasmine gnawing at me from behind.
“As expected…from the CEO’s bitch…she always manages to pull him in her matters. How annoying!”
I could vividly sense her hatred through her tone and even though it hurt me inside, holding my head high, I quietly walked out of that chamber since I knew I wasn’t at fault. Heading towards my desk, I continued thinking about how to come up with the proper investigation for this grave trouble.
But that moment, my phone rang vibrantly and upon taking it out from my bag, I saw it was my landlady’s number. She was a nice amicable old lady who had rented the apartment to me in a cheap price, but I was a little startled to see her number since it was very rare for her to call me, unless it was an emergency.
“Hello, Julia?”
Her polite voice unknowingly made me a little nervous as I reciprocated, “Yes Ma’am, what’s the matter?”
“I am sorry for calling you now when you must be at work…but…the matter is a little urgent. Umm, Julia…I am selling the whole apartment complex, so I want you to move out within this week.”
“Y-You…what?”
