Chapter 49

"Good morning everyone... The final rites of the awakening is upon us and the court of the realms and beyond proceeds over it. Today's hearing is to decide the date of a once mated couple, a family and a betrayal. I beseech you all, that until you are called upfront, do not speak, pass any snide marks or worse scream. You will be severely punished should you interfere. The court of the realms and beyond is no joking grounds. Let the hearing proceed and may the odds be in your favour. And may Justice be served..."

"To start with, Tricia Bennet, please step forward" Another council man read out loud

We all watched as Tricia bravely made her way through the crowd to the front but we could all smell her fear. I don't blame her. My father and his brothers made an intimidating sight seeing as they were all pairs of twins and looked very much alike.

You had to really know them to be able to tell the difference. And right now, with the way they were seated it was like looking at the same person over and over again but in different seats.

"Tricia Bennett, before we proceed, I would like to notify you of the fact that you have been summoned infront of gods, Kings, Lord's and it will be an insult if you lie. I can promise you that it will be in your very interest if you avoided them because things could go from bad to worse real quick here. Bear in mind that, You can't lie about something we already know. So please do tell us the kind of relationship you have with the Alpha River"

"We... We... We were seeing each other" she stammered

"Yes... Go on..." He encouraged

"And we were really in love before his mate came but then we didn't stop seeing each other. He promised to love me despite her existence and to make me Luna" she answered with a love sick look in her eyes.

I turned to look at Alpha River who had his head bowed in shame. Looks like the cat's finally out of the bag but it didn't make me feel any better.

"So... I guess that warrants enough reasons to have the heir to our throne brutally murdered"

"What!!! No... No that's not true" she exclaimed in denial

No sooner had she ended, did a bolt of lightening strike an inch from where she stood causing her to jump back in fright.

"Need I remind you little Bennett that the consequences for lying in this hearing and that bolt of lightening missing you wasn't luck. It was intentional and I can assure you that you won't be so lucky next time. Understood?"

"Y... Yes..."

"Now answer this question, did it warrant enough reasons to have the heir to our throne murdered?"

"I... I... Yes"

"I can't hear you Miss Bennett"

"YES!!" She yelled with tears rushing down her face.

The gasps and sharp in take of breaths that resonated round the yard could not be help. It was almost comical seeing as they had been warned. Alot looked like they wanted to do more that gasp but they held it in. Good for them but it was the roar that left River's throat that was the real icing on the cake. It took a number of people to hold him back when he make his way towards a now quivering Tricia.

"Is that so? A mere wolf like yourself with no heirachical standing thought it was right to take the life of a fellow wolf out of spite. Killing her because of a mate that was rightfully hers. I bet you didn't know the extent of the damege you have caused but I promise by the end of the hearing, you will be well served with it"

"But... But... We were in love!!! And she cur... cursed me first!! I was with Jay first!!" She shrieked

Ignoring her shrieks, he questioned further;

"How many innocent people did you have to sacrifice to achieve this crazy love? Why are your adopted parents not back from the mysterious trip they suddenly had to go on?"

".... ...."

"I thought as much. With this, I bring my questioning to a temporal pause to call on Alpha River" You could hear River's heartbeat beating rapidly across the field. I bet he did not expect his dirty laundry to be aired out in the open like this.

After taking his stand, the councilman started.

"Correct me if I am wrong Alpha, but you were already in a relationship with Miss Bennett when you found your mate in her mother's pack. Right or wrong?"

Swallowing hard, River replied,"right"

"Did she force you to take her as your mate or bring her to your pack?"

"No"

"So tell me... Why you brought someone's daughter all the way to your pack knowing you were already seeing someone?"

"I... I... I..."

"Ahhh... Cat got your tongue Alpha dear? No worries please answer with yes or no to the following questions... 'Did you break things off with Miss Bennett when you brought your mate home with you and introduced her to your pack?'"

"N... No..."

"Hmph... I wonder why. Is it still ongoing?"

"The relationship only lasted till my mate found out. Things became strained between us and I finally broke things off when she was... was murdered"

"Interesting... I would like for you to turn and look at Chaos as you answer me this last question: Did the moon goddess make so much of a mistake to pair her with you? Did the mate bind mean nothing to you? Did she really deserve what happened to her? You do know that had she being any regular wolf, she really would have being long dead together with your son still growing in her womb"

Silence...

"ANSWER ME!!!" The councilman seethed

"N...No she didn't make a mistake and the bond means everything to me now. She didn't deserve any of it and I know how high the stakes were in regards to her death" He whispered with tears running down his face.

"Mmm... It's too late to shed tears don't you think? And you said you value the bond now... You are hilarious... Let me correct you, you do not have an inkling of how high the stakes were concerning her death. You have no idea. I temporarily rest my case until further notice..."
