Chapter 32
He fixed himself at the bottom of my bed and watched me as I smiled sadly down at him.
“How is she?” I asked softly
“Which one?” Richard teased
“Fuck you Richie… my mate of course”
“She’s cold and quiet and… I don’t know distant? She’s there yet so far away” Jeremiah’s mate Stephanie answered sadly
“Oh, hey Stephanie, I didn’t see you there”
“Well I just came in. I just closed from training and thought I should come and see you”
“Oh thanks. But what training?”
“The one Alpha Chaos is offering”
“Alpha? So, she was serious”
“Yeah. Drilled it into our heads on the first day of training. She’s okay but she’s not okay. She’s not the same person we met on her first day here. Oh and the white in her hair has moved from half to like two-thirds”
“She’s losing herself” I whispered brokenly
“Yes that’s one way to say it” Stephanie replied solemnly
“Well how is Tricia?” I asked next
“Left the pack to go visit her friends in the Red Moon Pack” Matthews rattled out
“That’s good. A curse is no joke. Speaking of jokes, why are you all dressed like that?”
“Well it’s not by choice. That’s for sure” James Freeman, Jeremiah’s second in command said sarcastically
“Someone please tell me what is going on?” I barked out in frustration
Jeremiah was first to go. He let the blanket fall to the ground before turning his back to me.
“What the fuck!!” I whisper yelled
“And that’s not even the worst.” Silas Barnes, Richard’s second in command said before shedding his own ridiculous shirt.
The rest followed and I couldn’t even look at their backs anymore. It didn’t even deserve to be called a back anymore.
“What happened?”
“Your mate’s father happened. He’s one scary ass motherfucker and I wish to never see him again in my life or dreams for that matter” Leone Esposito, Matthews’ second responded with a look of pure horror in his eyes
“Shut up Leone. You had it easy than the rest of us because luckily, Kiara and Chaos see some cuteness in you that we don’t” James teased
“Someone explain why some look worse than the other whiles some are somewhat gone”
“Well…” Stephanie started “On the first day of training, Alpha Chaos cooked for us. Some food from her father’s realm as it is tradition to feed us after we swore allegiance to her. She said the food has so many blessings and attributes that it could do wonders. I personally didn’t care because the food looked so tasty, I just wanted to eat. So I did.
In fact we all did and had seconds. Then I asked if I could bring some to Jeremiah. She refused at first before asking us to enjoy the rest on the table because she would make a new batch that we can all take home. The moment I tasted the new one, I knew it was different and say less powerful than the one before but I didn’t say nothing.
I took it home to Jeremiah who was bedridden by then after his first encounter with King Chaos and fed him the food. It didn’t take more than a second before the wounds on his back started healing. Not completely but still healing. So I kept part of the food in the refrigerator and mixed it with his food anytime he had his meals”
“Lucky bastard…” Leone teased
“You are one to talk” Silas snapped “I watched as Chaos herself healed you the moment she saw you in pain… we didn’t even get a second glance”
“Don’t blame me. Blame my cuteness” Leone replied sassily causing the rest of us to laugh
“What about you Matthews?” I asked curiously
“Oh um… it doesn’t work on me? He stopped when he saw the crest on my shoulder and chest. Technically I am family and no one hurts family” he said while gauging my facial expression which I kept blank
I smiled softly to let him know that I’m not holding that against him before turning to Richard
“Well… after the first visit, I just couldn’t take it. It was just too much so I went to see Chaos the next day and I apologized. Call me a pussy… no offense Steph… but it was the least I could do. The moment she told me she had forgiven me; psh the pain was also gone. Just like that. I advise the rest of you to try that” Richard said seriously
“Now that you say it like that I would be going to see her as soon as possible” Silas said
“Okay enough with the boring stuff… Stephanie, tell us about how your training has been so far and how the place is like” James questioned with intense interest
“Why are you asking her? Why don’t you go and see for yourself?” I asked with furrowed brows.
“Well since you are not up on the latest, let me do the honors” Silas teased “First, no one goes there except the trainees and secondly, they are all chicks and thirdly, no one has seen the insides. Again except the trainees. Even the all mighty Matthews hasn’t been there. So we all have no option but to live through them. Now please keep quiet and let me have my daily dose”
“Yo!! I have a scheduled date to be there tomorrow when their weapons and other gadgets are handed to them. I might be getting a pair so watch it” Matthews yelled out
“Really!! Take me with you… please” James begged
“Okay… I will talk to my baby and she will talk to Chaos then we will see from there” Matthews placated
“That’s more like it. Now talk to me Steph” James said
