Chapter 88 Reaping What You Sow
The old woman, muttering curses under her breath, darted into a narrow alley, panting heavily as she continued to swear.
"Damn it, how did she figure out what I did?" she grumbled angrily, "I don't believe it. I can still run and jump. There's no way I could die today."
She spat a few times on the wall and eyed a small yellow dog tied up in a nearby yard, her mind scheming.
"Haven't made a sale yet today, and a kitten's already dead. This pup looks good though, should fetch a decent price once it's fattened up!" she muttered, hunching over and slowly approaching the yard wall.
Seeing no one around, she pulled out a syringe from her pocket and jabbed it into the dog wagging its tail at her.
The puppy immediately collapsed, unconscious. The old woman scooped it up and left.
At 8:30 PM, after negotiating with a shady buyer, she finally sold her last batch of stolen dogs. Just as the sale was completed, a group of plainclothes police officers appeared out of nowhere, guns drawn, surrounding her.
Behind them were numerous media personnel with flashing cameras.
The buyer's face turned pale, trying to run, but the police chased after him closely. Due to the crowded city area, they couldn't shoot.
Within minutes, the buyer was caught.
The buyer, a burly man with a face full of fat, was being held down by the police as he glared up at the old woman and cursed, "You wretched woman, you're such bad luck! Running into you is the worst!"
Several officers surrounded the old woman, who initially panicked but then regained her shameless demeanor.
"I have a heart condition! Don't touch me, or you'll be responsible if something happens!" she shouted, trying to manipulate the situation.
The young officers looked at each other, hesitant to act, and forced her towards the police car for questioning.
As they approached the car, one of the officers momentarily let his guard down, and the old woman made a break for it.
The police reacted quickly, but she fell to the ground.
Her face turned pale, cold sweat beading on her forehead. Her hands trembled as she searched her pockets for her medication.
Seeing she was having a heart attack, the police didn't dare touch her and called for an ambulance. Just as she managed to get her medication out, her hand shook, and the bottle fell, rolling away.
"Help me! Get my medicine!" she gasped, her eyes wide with fear.
An officer hurried over to pick up the vial when a pack of stray dogs suddenly appeared, barking aggressively and surrounding him, though they didn't get too close.
A stray cat darted in, grabbed the vial in its mouth, and dashed away, scaling walls and climbing trees until it was out of sight.
Seeing her medicine being taken away, the old woman was overcome with rage.
"Damn it!... Help... me!" she pleaded, her voice weakening.
Her pupils dilated, and she lost all signs of life.
An officer checked his watch.
"Time of death: nine o'clock sharp," he noted solemnly.
The police captain nodded and ordered the team to return to the station.
In the crowd, Tomas's assistant checked his phone and sent a message to Tomas: [Sir, the old woman is dead. Time of death: nine o'clock sharp.]
Tomas read the message, raised an eyebrow, and a look of intense interest appeared in his eyes. "Quite an interesting woman."
The next day at Mystic Haven: Fortune & Fate, an unexpected visitor arrived.
Snow and Marc were not there. When they saw Lorna had arrived, they decided to go to the arcade.
Lorna, noticing Snow's curiosity about the arcade, allowed Marc to take him there.
Now, Lorna was alone in the studio.
A tall, handsome young man walked in.
Lorna glanced at him nonchalantly.
"Beautiful lady, I've heard you're really good at fortune-telling." Tomas took off his sunglasses and gave Lorna a flirtatious look.
Lorna felt a chill; she could sense the aura of decay surrounding him.
"How did you find out?" Lorna asked, forcing a smile.
"The old woman died exactly at nine o'clock. Miss, your curse is quite powerful," Tomas said, mistaking Lorna's accurate prediction for a curse, and giving her a mischievous smirk.
Lorna sat down on a wooden chair, ignoring him. "You're joking. It was her own doing and has nothing to do with me. What do you want to know?"
Tomas, unfazed by Lorna's cold attitude, sat beside her.
His eyes gleamed with amusement as he looked at Lorna. "I'm not here for a reading. I need your help to get rid of some lingering spirits."
Lorna paused her tea-drinking, probing cautiously. "How do you want them gone?"
"Completely obliterated, never to exist in any form in this world," Tomas said calmly, his words chilling.
Lorna smiled slightly, "You have quite the nerve, saying such things in front of me."
Tomas shrugged indifferently, resting an arm on the table. "You wouldn't be so heartless, would you?"
"Do you think I can't see through your dirty deeds? Like your face masks?" Lorna's smile didn't reach her eyes, filled with coldness.
Tomas's playful demeanor vanished instantly, replaced by a murderous glare.
"You're a man in your forties or fifties, why are you pretending to be young in front of me?" Lorna bluntly exposed Tomas's facade.
Tomas's face twisted with anger. He was most sensitive about his appearance, which was why he resorted to those dark deeds.
"Miss, your beautiful face would make a lovely mask," he threatened, dropping all pretenses. He pulled out an ornate dagger and moved closer to Lorna, while his bodyguards swiftly surrounded her chair.
Lorna sneered, "Do you really think a few men can restrain me?"
Tomas smirked wickedly, his eyes filled with a desire for Lorna's skin. "You're just a woman. Naturally, you're not as strong as a man, right?"
Lorna laughed derisively, "Well, it's your bad luck to have run into me."
With a flick of her finger, Lorna sent an Immobilization Scroll into the air, freezing Tomas and his bodyguards in place. Tomas's eyes could still move, filled with humiliated rage and a hint of fear as he stared at the floating scroll.
"Unrepentant, are you? Since you want to deal with vengeful spirits, why not join them first?" Lorna's eyes glinted with meaning as she smiled.
Under Tomas's watchful gaze, she pulled out a Retribution Scroll, activating it and sending it into Tomas's body.
The fear in Tomas's eyes intensified, and he blinked frantically in a silent plea for Lorna to release him.
Lorna stood up and walked towards the inner room, waving her hand dismissively without looking back. "Get out!"
Dying here would only sully her domain.
As soon as Lorna spoke, Tomas and his men regained their mobility.
Tomas's eyes flashed with malice. Just as he took a step towards Lorna's back, his feet were forcibly turned, and they all rolled out in a line.
Standing at the entrance of Mystic Haven: Fortune & Fate, Tomas and his men didn't dare step back in. Any movement caused excruciating pain in their chests.
"That wicked woman must have cursed us! Let's go!" Tomas led his men away.
In the Allard Mansion, Bernard looked at the information sent by his assistant.
It read: the Savage family.
Bernard was discussing overseas warehouse matters with Lyndon.
"Bernard, the Savage family holds a significant position overseas. If we bypass them, it will be quite challenging to expand our business!" Lyndon said over the phone.
"They are a major player in the industry. If we want to enter their territory, we can't avoid dealing with them. See if we can negotiate a partnership. If not, we'll think of another way," Bernard replied, feeling tired as he rubbed his temples.
"Got it, Bernard." Lyndon hung up and went to convene an emergency meeting.
Even if the Savage family refused to cooperate, they couldn't hinder the Allard family significantly.
