I felt terrible inside, but I knew I couldn't fall apart now, Tammy was still in the ICU.
After comforting Beckett, I went back to my room and lay on the bed, unable to sleep.
The check Howard gave me was still in my wallet. As long as I cashed it, everything would be resolved.
I took out the check and rubbed it with my fingertips.
Just as my thoughts were drifting, my phone suddenly rang.
When I answered, before I could say anything, an excited female voice came from the other end.
"Ms. Brown, you need to come quickly, your mother is not doing well!"
I was stunned and stumbled out. Beckett saw me like this and had a guess, following me as I ran.
I don't know how I got to the hospital. By the time I arrived, Tammy was already covered with a white sheet and being wheeled out!
"Family, please accept our condolences."
I rushed forward, shaking the doctor's arm, begging him to save Tammy again. Tammy loved life so much, how could she just die like that!
The doctor looked at me and shook his head.
"The condition was initially under control, but after your mother woke up, she didn't want to burden you. While the nurse was out, she pulled off the ventilator and hit her head against the wall."
Watching Tammy's body being wheeled away, I felt all my strength leave me, and I knelt on the ground.
"Ahhh! Someone has fainted!"
Before I could struggle out of the pain of losing Tammy, a horrified scream came from behind me.
I turned my head with difficulty, and Beckett, who had been following me, suddenly collapsed.
My pupils contracted sharply.
"Doctor, help!"
Beckett was also wheeled into the emergency room. Watching the red light above the door, I felt completely lost.
In one day, I lost Tammy, and Beckett also collapsed. I couldn't understand why such misfortune had to befall my family.
Both my parents were kind people, always helping those in need with money and food. Why couldn't such good people receive good fortune?
I sat on the bench outside the emergency room. I don't know how long had passed when a tissue was handed to me.
I looked up and saw Howard's handsome face.
"Wipe your face, you look terrible."
I took the tissue and thanked him.
"Thank you for your help earlier."
But to my surprise, the man who said we would be strangers after goodbye actually sat down beside me.
"It's nothing. I don't like seeing someone I've slept with living so miserably."
We sat on the bench, and for a brief moment, we ignored the inappropriateness of our relationship.
"Why are you here?"
He, the head of the Wilson family, had appeared at the hospital several times and ran into me.
I didn't believe it was all a coincidence.
"When you had someone investigate me, didn't they tell you this hospital belongs to my family?"
Howard looked at me with a mocking smile.
I immediately felt ashamed and lowered my head. It was foolish of me to think I could use Howard to get back at a cheating man.
The atmosphere became awkward. I didn't dare look at Howard and could only focus on the emergency room door.
The emergency room light stayed on all night. It wasn't until dawn that Beckett was wheeled out.
I quickly stood up and rushed over.
"Doctor, how is Beckett?"
