I couldn't help but give Howard a thumbs up. This guy really knows how to strategize, not letting any resources around him go to waste.
Walking into the art exhibition, there were many unfamiliar faces.
"Relax a bit, the people here are either rich or noble. Most of them are here because of Hannah's reputation. However, Matthew does have some skills. After today, he will have established himself in Emerald City."
Soon, the art exhibition officially began.
Matthew stood on the stage, looking radiant, while Winter stood beside him, gazing at him with admiration.
"Thank you all for coming. All the paintings on display will be sold, and fifty percent of the proceeds will be donated to charity in Emerald City!"
As soon as Matthew finished speaking, everyone started applauding. I glanced at the paintings; they were so expensive that I couldn't afford them even if I sold myself!
As the exhibition started, a group of people quickly gathered around Howard, exchanging pleasantries and praising him for being young and promising.
Someone noticed me and couldn't help but ask.
"Mr. Wilson, is this your new girlfriend?"
Howard put his arm around my shoulder and laughed heartily.
"No, this is my wife. We are already registered, just haven't had the wedding yet."
My face turned red instantly. This was the first time Howard acknowledged my status in a formal setting. To say I wasn't excited would be a lie.
"Mrs. Wilson is truly beautiful. Mr. Wilson is very fortunate!"
"Indeed, a talented man and a beautiful woman, you two are a perfect match!"
Everyone was perceptive enough not to inquire about my background. Instead, they all congratulated Howard on winning the beauty.
Halfway through the exhibition, I started to feel a bit tired and decided to go to the buffet area to get something to eat.
Just as I picked up a glass of red wine and turned around, I accidentally bumped into someone, spilling the wine all over them!
I felt a bit embarrassed. The red wine had soaked into the other person's off-white dress, and the scene fell silent for a moment.
"Sorry, I didn't know you were behind me."
I quickly apologized. When I looked up, I saw a girl with a dignified appearance, but her eyes were a bit red.
"It's okay, it was my fault too. I'll just go change."
Her words lacked confidence, and for some reason, I felt that the dress didn't suit her.
Before the girl could leave, a man hurried over and started scolding her without a second thought.
"Are you blind? How dare you bump into Mrs. Wilson! If you don't want to work here, you should leave early!"
The girl didn't dare to speak up, just kept wiping her tears.
I reached out and pulled the girl behind me, looking at the man with dissatisfaction.
"I accidentally spilled the wine on her. Why are you scolding her?"
The man immediately put on a fawning smile.
"Mrs. Wilson, how can you say that? She was blind enough to bump into you. Getting spilled with wine is what she deserves. Besides, it's an honor for her to be spilled with your wine!"
The more I listened, the more uncomfortable I felt. I didn't want to look at the man anymore and turned to the girl.
"Do you really have another dress to change into?"
The girl shook her head, sobbing softly.
"No, this is the only decent dress I have."
I felt a bit sad. In this girl, I saw my former self. I thought I should do something.
