Upon hearing the news, Howard was particularly excited. He had just stood up but then considered me.
"Let's go together. After all, she is my niece."
Seeing me agree, Howard was very happy. He draped his coat over my shoulders, and we walked arm in arm towards the operating room.
At the entrance of the operating room, four people were standing there: Joseph's parents and Jessica and her husband.
"Jessica, how is it inside?"
Hearing Howard's voice, Jessica turned her head, but when she saw me next to Howard, her expression instantly stiffened.
"It's still uncertain. Olivia's health has always been poor. I wanted her to have a C-section."
"That's not acceptable! How can a child of the Miller family be born via C-section? C-section babies don't go through the squeezing process, so their heart and lung functions aren't as well-developed! Besides, what woman doesn't give birth naturally? It's just your Olivia being overly delicate!"
As soon as Jessica finished speaking, Joseph's mother, Dahlia, chimed in.
I had a strong impression of Dahlia. When I was with Joseph, she didn't like me. Now that her son had married Olivia, a rich girl, she still dared to bully her?
Sure enough, a slap landed squarely on Dahlia's face.
"Shut your filthy mouth! My daughter is none of your business! How dare a nobody like you act so arrogantly towards me! You've got some nerve!"
Jessica's words were spot on. After all, the Miller family's current residence and their relatives' jobs were all arranged by the Smith family.
Rather than saying Olivia married into the Miller family, it was more accurate to say Joseph married into the Smith family.
Dahlia staggered from the slap and was about to retort but was stopped by her husband, Heath Miller.
Heath apologized meekly.
"Jessica, don't be angry. How the child is born should be up to the doctors."
Jessica's expression softened slightly, but she still wasn't ready to let Dahlia off the hook, glaring at her coldly.
"The first child, whether boy or girl, I allowed to take the Miller family name. But the second child must have the Smith family name!"
Dahlia was indignant and wanted to say more, but a glare from Jessica silenced her.
In front of a mother, her child is her bottom line.
Howard and I stood quietly on the side, waiting. Dahlia and Heath saw me and wanted to make some snide remarks, but seeing Howard next to me, they swallowed their words.
If they couldn't afford to offend the Smith family, they certainly couldn't afford to offend the Wilson family.
A doctor came running out from inside.
"There's a problem. The patient is hemorrhaging and urgently needs a blood transfusion! Who has type A blood?"
Jessica panicked and grabbed the doctor's collar.
"What's going on! Does our hospital not even have type A blood? How are you people doing your jobs!"
The doctor was also sweating profusely. This was not the time for Jessica to throw a fit.
Howard stepped forward and separated the two.
"Where's the type A blood?"
"Yesterday, another woman was hemorrhaging, and the blood bank was depleted for her! Now there's a shortage of type A blood!"
"Can a relative's blood be used?"
"No, it could cause hemolysis!"
The doctor's words left everyone in silence. I had seen Howard's information, which stated he had type A blood. If relatives couldn't donate...
Thinking of this, I stepped forward.
"Take mine. I have type A blood!"
