Chapter 40
Joshua looked up at Ella.
There was no expression on his handsome face, but he didn't deny the medical visit either.
He just wanted to see if Ella was telling the truth.
After all, she was a habitual liar - he couldn't let her fool him again.
After a moment, Joshua went back to his meal, saying in a low voice, "Fine, then you go to the hospital with Karen tomorrow and bring me the test results."
Ella froze.
This feeling of not being trusted really hurt.
But she couldn't blame anyone else - after all, she had deceived him and told him lies before.
Ella said nothing and got up to tell Karen to go with her to the hospital for tests first thing tomorrow morning.
Aurora and Dorian soon came running back.
Seeing Joshua eating dinner, Aurora went up to him, tugging at his sleeve, blinking her big eyes, and calling out sweetly.
"Daddy, what are you eating? Can I have some?"
Dorian stood beside her, acting all grown-up as he reminded her.
"Aurora, he doesn't like us. Let's go upstairs and play."
Joshua really didn't like the two of them.
Because they were someone else's kids.
If they were his children, he would definitely keep them by his side all the time.
Joshua didn't even glance at the children, let alone answer. He sat there with his head down and a gloomy face, continuing to eat.
Aurora didn't want to leave with Dorian. Not caring whether daddy was willing or not, she started climbing onto his lap.
"Daddy, hold me. I want to see what you're eating."
Joshua had to move away from the table and stared at Aurora, trying to look fierce. "Get down."
"I don't want to. I want daddy to hold me."
Aurora climbed onto Joshua's lap and threw herself into his arms, happily swinging her little legs.
"Daddy's arms are so warm and big. Dorian, you come up too."
Seeing that Joshua was getting angry, Dorian quickly pulled at Aurora. "Get down quick, he'll hit you."
"Daddy won't hit me - I'm so cute."
Aurora laughed, propping herself up to look at Joshua's truly terrifyingly gloomy face, innocent and pure.
"Daddy, do you like me? Am I cute?"
Joshua kept his emotions tight. Even though Aurora looked very cute and spoke in a soft voice that really touched people's hearts.
But this was someone else's child.
A child Ella had with someone else.
Joshua just couldn't feel any fatherly love for them. He roughly pulled the child off.
Then he yelled at the child fiercely, "Don't come near me again, you hear?"
Aurora thought Joshua would really like her.
But Joshua not only pulled her off his lap, he yelled at her too.
Aurora got scared, pouting with tears starting to fall.
"Why are you doing this?"
Seeing Joshua being mean to Aurora and roughly pulling her off, Dorian immediately stepped forward to stand in front of Aurora, shouting at Joshua with anger mixed with a bit of cuteness.
"Can't you be a little gentler?"
"Get lost."
Joshua wasn't moved at all, even yelling at Dorian.
And Ella happened to see this scene.
She quickly came over to pull the children away, teaching them.
"Aurora, don't cry. Let's go play somewhere else, okay?"
"But I want daddy. Mommy, didn't you say we could call him daddy? Why doesn't he still like me?"
Aurora cried out loud, looking at Joshua with teary eyes, really wanting Joshua to hold her.
Ella patiently explained to the children, "He's not used to having you around yet. Give him some time!"
She quickly picked up Aurora and left, afraid that Aurora's crying would disturb Joshua.
Before leaving, Dorian glared at Joshua, his round little face stern with anger.
"We only tried to please you because we like you. If you don't like us, then stay away from our mommy."
"If you yell at Aurora like this again, I'll jump up and hit you!"
After yelling, he hurried to catch up with Ella and Aurora.
After the mother and children left, Joshua sat there, not feeling there was anything wrong with his behavior.
They weren't his kids. The fact that he could tolerate their existence and let them live in his house was already very kind.
He had no obligation to take care of their feelings or play along with them.
After eating a bit, Joshua went upstairs to his study.
After coaxing the children to sleep, Ella took the initiative to return to the master bedroom.
Soon after, Joshua came too.
Ella quickly got him his pajamas and ran the bath water.
Then she went back to bed to rest.
Joshua didn't mind her presence. After washing up, he got into bed too.
But tonight the two of them had nothing to say to each other, sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams.
The next day, morning.
Ella had to go to the hospital with Karen for tests.
She knew Karen was there because Joshua arranged it - to monitor her.
Just afraid she would lie and deceive again.
Ella didn't mind. After arriving at the hospital, she went straight to the OB-GYN department.
Joshua had already gone to the office early.
When Aurora and Dorian woke up, both Joshua and Ella had already left home.
As Patricia was helping Aurora get dressed, Aurora asked gloomily, "Patricia, what do you think we need to do for daddy to like us?"
Patricia smiled bitterly, not knowing how to answer.
After all, she didn't understand the situation between the children and that Joshua.
Dorian, who was dressing himself nearby, finished getting dressed and told Aurora with a serious face.
"Aurora, don't worry about that person. We just need to be ourselves. If he doesn't like us, we don't like him either."
"But I really like daddy."
Aurora looked at Dorian, frowning her delicate brows, saying angrily, "Dorian, I think he should be our daddy. Being with daddy makes me feel safe and happy."
Dorian corrected her, "Nonsense, our daddy is already dead. He's not our daddy."
"But I want him to be our daddy."
Aurora insisted on her decision.
Since they were going to live with Joshua from now on, she would definitely work very hard to make Joshua like them.
Ella said Joshua wasn't used to their existence yet.
So she would wait until Joshua got used to them and liked them.
Dorian shook his head helplessly and jumped off the bed to wash up.
Aurora and Dorian hadn't started kindergarten yet. After breakfast, they played in the garden with Patricia watching over them.
At noon, Scarlett came over.
She was looking for Ella.
Walking into the courtyard, she saw two children squatting on the ground studying ants in the distance.
She was very curious about why there were two children here.
Just as she was about to go ask, Patricia stopped her, very alert.
"Hello, who are you looking for?"
Scarlett, dressed fashionably and with a proud attitude, told Patricia, "I'm looking for Ella. She's home, right?"
Aurora and Dorian in the distance heard her words and immediately got up and ran over, saying innocently, "My mommy went to work with daddy. Why are you looking for my mommy?"
Scarlett looked at the two children, hearing what they said, her heart jumped.
"What did you say? You're Ella's children?"
