Chapter 152
Scarlett committed suicide by hitting her head against the wall?
Her case hadn't even gone to trial yet. Why would she give up hope and kill herself by hitting the wall?
Ella looked at Zachary, "Is she dead?"
Zachary nodded, "She should be dead already, but logically speaking, someone like her wouldn't give up hope. Even if she got sentenced, there's no way she'd get the death penalty. I suspect that..."
Someone wanted Scarlett dead.
Suicide was just the excuse they needed for her death.
Ella felt Zachary's suspicion was right.
Scarlett couldn't have killed herself.
She didn't deny that she had someone get rid of the child Scarlett was carrying.
But that wasn't enough to kill Scarlett.
So who actually did it?
As Ella was puzzling over this, Zachary's warm, pleasant voice sounded in her ear.
"Forget it, let's not think about it. Now that Scarlett's dead, we've avenged Aurora."
Zachary put his arm around Ella, signaling her to lie down and sleep.
She'd been at the police station all this time, surely not eating or sleeping well. Today he just wanted to be with her, to give her a solid shoulder to lean on.
Ella nodded and slowly lay down.
She tried not to think about Scarlett, but her whole body became tense and uncomfortable.
She was afraid Zachary would try to be intimate with her at this moment.
She wasn't prepared at all.
If it weren't for making Joshua give up, she wouldn't have entered into a marriage so quickly.
She just hoped Zachary would understand her and not pressure her.
Seeming to sense Ella's discomfort, Zachary let go of her and lay properly on his side, saying like a gentleman, "Ella, good night."
Hearing "good night" and feeling Zachary move away from her, Ella was a bit surprised.
She turned her head to look at him. The dim wall lamp illuminated his handsome face, which looked flawless, handsome and wonderful.
At this moment, Ella's discomfort faded, replaced by little ripples spreading through her heart.
She told herself that Zachary was so good.
One day, after Dorian came back, she would give him her whole heart and live a good life with him.
Ella closed her eyes peacefully and let herself fall into a deep sleep.
The next day.
Dorian was especially well-behaved, getting up and washing up by himself.
When Ava came to see him and saw him washing his face and brushing his teeth on his own, she was quite shocked.
"Dorian, you can do all this by yourself? How amazing."
Dorian didn't like Ava at all.
Just as annoying as Joshua.
She had even scolded Ella and him before.
If it weren't for the chance to leave this house, he couldn't be bothered with her.
Putting aside his thoughts, Dorian looked at Ava with his electric toothbrush in his mouth.
"Grandma, I've been doing this myself since I was two. Grandma, after breakfast, can you take me to the cemetery to see Aurora?"
Ava felt that Dorian had been raised by Ella to be far too mature for his age.
She touched his head sympathetically and nodded in agreement, "Okay, as long as you eat nicely, Grandma will agree to whatever you want to do."
But going to Aurora's cemetery—did she, as the grandmother, even have the face to go?
Back then, it was she who had told the doctor not to try too hard, which led to Aurora's death.
All things considered, what difference was there between her and the murderer who killed her own granddaughter?
Ava felt guilty and wanted to make it up to Dorian.
When Dorian finished washing up and she took him downstairs for breakfast, she said to Joshua, "Dorian wants to go to the cemetery to see Aurora. Can I take him later?"
After all, he was Joshua's child, and she was afraid something might go wrong, so Ava felt she should get Joshua's consent.
Joshua had already gotten out of his wheelchair.
Though his injuries hadn't fully healed, they didn't prevent him from going about normally.
Hearing Ava's words and looking at Dorian, who did seem to have become more obedient, he wondered—if he didn't agree, would Dorian go on a hunger strike again?
But he had witnessed Dorian's cleverness and scheming.
After a moment of silence, Joshua said to Dorian, "Does it have to be today? How about waiting until Dad finishes his work, and I'll take you in a few days?"
Dorian looked up at him, putting on a sad and disappointed face, pouting as if about to cry.
"Last night I dreamed about Aurora. Aurora said she misses me. Please just let Grandma take me."
Ava couldn't bear to see Dorian cry and immediately urged Joshua, "Don't worry, I'll bring several people along. Dorian won't get lost."
Joshua still felt Dorian was playing mind games with him.
A child this small could disappear in the blink of an eye.
If he got lost while in his care, how would he explain it to Ella?
Joshua insisted, "We'll go in a few days. Just stay home these days, and if you behave well, Dad will definitely take you."
Dorian, seeing his plan didn't work, got a bit angry.
"You're not a good dad at all. Aurora died and you don't want her anymore, and you won't even let me go see her."
He lowered his head, tears falling in big drops.
Ava held him in her arms sympathetically and looked at Joshua, "Just for an hour, it should be fine."
Joshua insisted, "You're not allowed to take him out."
After breakfast, he got up to go to the office.
He also had Brian send over bodyguards to watch over Dorian at all times, not allowing him to step one foot outside the gate.
On the way to the office, Brian sat in the passenger seat and turned back to report to Joshua in the back, "Mr. Thomas, Scarlett died at the police station last night."
Joshua's handsome face remained coldly expressionless.
That Scarlett—four years ago she pretended to be Ella to deceive him, sent people to kidnap Aurora, causing Aurora's fatal injuries and death.
She also pulled out Aiden's oxygen tube. Her death was getting off easy.
He ordered coldly, "Just handle it."
Brian nodded.
Thinking of something, Joshua asked, "How's that thing I asked you to do last time—sending people to Eldoria to infiltrate the Baker family?"
The Baker family was such a large clan, it really didn't have to be Zachary who inherited it.
But he had to make Zachary leave Emerald City and go back to Eldoria.
Brian nodded and reported, "The Baker family is huge. Knox Baker has five grandsons in total. Zachary is the third one, and he's one of the few talented people in the Baker family."
"Knox had high hopes for him, but Zachary gave up everything to come to Emerald City, which made Knox very angry."
"Also, the Baker family has a deep friendship with the Johnson family. The two families work closely together."
Hearing about the Johnson family, Joshua's eyebrows moved slightly.
He looked at Brian, "Michael?"
Michael had been gone so long that Joshua had almost forgotten he'd ever appeared.
Brian nodded, "That's right, the family of Michael who we deported."
Joshua thought about Michael's relationship with Ella.
That guy would do anything for Ella.
So why not let them fight each other while he watched over Dorian and waited for Ella to return!
"Send someone to notify Michael that Ella and Zachary got married."
Brian understood.
The Lewis Villa.
Mason came back from outside early in the morning, full of rage.
Seeing Ella having breakfast with Heath and Rhea in the dining room, with Zachary also there, he walked over and stood beside them, his eyes red with fury, "Ella, was it you? Did you send someone to kill Scarlett?"
When he received this news, he felt like the sky was falling.
No matter how wrong Scarlett was, she would have paid for it by going to prison.
Her child was gone too.
Wasn't all this enough to make up for the mistakes she made?
"Mason, what are you raving about? Is this how you talk to Ella?"
Heath got angry and yelled at Mason.
Rhea also said, "Ella just got out of the police station. How could she have the ability to send someone to kill Scarlett?"
Mason realized something and turned to look at Zachary.
"You did it, didn't you?"
Zachary sat properly, denying it coldly, "What does it have to do with me?"
"If it wasn't you two, then who was it?"
Mason still suspected that Ella had Zachary send someone to do it. Angrily, he said to Ella again, "You already made her lose her child, which counts as avenging your child. Why wouldn't you let her go?"
"Ella, do you want me to hate you for the rest of my life?"
Ella, who had been silent all along, finally couldn't take it anymore and stood up to confront Mason.
"I admit I had someone get rid of the child in Scarlett's belly, but her death has nothing to do with me."
She'd been at the police station all this time and hadn't paid attention to Scarlett's situation.
Last night when Zachary told her, she was still surprised.
She didn't expect Mason would blame her for it.
"Besides you two, there couldn't possibly be anyone else."
Mason still believed Ella did it, glaring at her hatefully, "I won't forgive you. I don't have you as a sister anymore."
Angry, he turned and left.
"Mason."
Heath stood up and called out, but couldn't call Mason back. He turned to comfort Ella, "Ella, don't pay attention to him. Our family doesn't need this good-for-nothing anyway."
Rhea also comforted her, "That Scarlett even kidnapped me and Dorian—you can see how evil she was. It's good she's dead, so she won't harm anyone else."
"Ella, don't take Mason's words to heart. Let's eat first. After breakfast, you and your dad go to the office. From now on, you'll be in charge of the company."
Ella nodded.
Mason didn't recognize her as his sister.
Then she had no need to give back to Mason what Heath had given her.
Ungrateful thing—if he loved Scarlett so much, he might as well go die with her.
After breakfast, when going to the office with Heath, Ella brought Zachary along too.
After all, Zachary was also the CEO of the Baker Group. Managing a company was easy as pie for him.
He stayed by Ella's side as an assistant, helping Ella secure her position as CEO.
All day long, Ella waited for Dorian's call.
After Joshua went to the office, Dorian tried every way to please Ava.
Ava felt guilty toward him and granted almost every request, except for going out.
When Dorian asked for a phone to make a call, she gave him one too.
After getting the phone, Dorian immediately ran into his room, closed the door, and dialed Ella's number.
Ella and Zachary were busy working in the office when her phone rang. She immediately picked it up and answered.
Seeing Dorian's little face appear on the screen, Ella's heart ached and she almost couldn't hold back her tears again.
"Dorian, are you okay?"
Dorian nodded.
"Mom, I'm fine. I wanted to get that old witch to take me out so I could run away, but they're too smart—they won't let me leave the house at all."
