Chapter 124
Ella didn't know if what Heath said was true or not.
But hearing him give everything from the Lewis family to her without hesitation at this moment, even if it was fake, even if he was lying to her, she still felt a trace of comfort in her heart.
She smiled faintly, "I was just joking with Mason, I don't really want anything from the family."
Rhea held Ella's hand, her eyes full of heartache, "Even if you don't want it, we should still give it to you. From now on, you'll stay by your father's side and learn from him. As for that good-for-nothing Mason, if he really dares to be with Scarlett, he can forget about getting another penny from the family."
Mason heard Rhea's words from the staircase.
After hesitating for a few seconds, he turned around and went downstairs to stand before Heath and Rhea, gathering his courage to say, "I can give up all the family assets, but I want to marry Scarlett."
It wasn't like he didn't have the ability to make money.
Plus, he owed Ella.
If Ella really wanted everything from the Lewis family, he could hand it all over.
"What did you say?"
Heath was furious, pointing at him and demanding angrily, "Say that again."
Rhea signaled Heath to keep his voice down—there were other guests in the house.
Making a scene would only give people something to laugh about.
Ella also reminded them, "Let's go talk in the study."
The family moved to the study.
Heath picked up his riding crop and pointed at Mason, scolding, "Kneel down."
Then he had the butler call Scarlett over.
When Scarlett walked into the study and saw Mason already kneeling on the floor, with Rhea and Ella standing nearby, she knew that her relationship with Mason had been exposed.
If the family pressed her about it, she would have no choice but to put all the blame on Mason.
Only this way might Heath and Rhea still acknowledge her as their adopted daughter.
Otherwise, she would definitely be kicked out of the Lewis family.
Thinking about how Ella would see her humiliated, Scarlett felt both jealous and helpless.
"What are you standing there for? Come here and kneel down too."
When Heath saw Scarlett, he didn't treat her as an adopted daughter at all, but as a shameless woman who had been fooling around with Mason.
Scarlett walked over with her head down and wisely knelt beside Mason.
Mason was afraid that Heath and Rhea's anger would be directed at Scarlett, so he immediately protected her and explained to Heath and Rhea, "Mom, Dad, if you want to blame someone, blame me. I'm the one who's morally corrupt and disgusting. I've been lusting after Scarlett since she became an adult."
"I also forced her to be with me. To prevent her from marrying Joshua, I deliberately took photos of Scarlett in bed and sent them to Joshua, which led to the wedding being canceled."
When Heath heard this, his face changed completely.
Unable to contain his anger, he raised the whip and struck Mason.
Scarlett instinctively backed away in fright.
She hadn't expected Mason to go this far for her.
If she continued to blame everything on him alone, plus with Ella's presence, would there be any place for her in this family in the future?
Perhaps only by becoming Mason's wife would she have the right to compete with Ella for the Lewis family assets.
Watching Heath ruthlessly whip Mason again and again, while Rhea and Ella beside them didn't even try to stop him, although she didn't want to care about Mason's life or death, right now he was her only support.
Scarlett had no choice but to rush over and hold him, taking the whip strikes from Heath.
Then she cried out, "Dad, stop hitting him. If you must hit someone, hit me. I don't blame Mason."
Heath never hit women.
Seeing Scarlett rush over to hold Mason, he immediately stopped, "Scarlett, move aside."
Scarlett shook her head, holding Mason tightly and refusing to let go, giving people the illusion that she and Mason were a pair of star-crossed lovers, "Dad, actually even without Mason, Joshua wouldn't have married me anyway. He's just a liar who wanted to play with my feelings, just like he played with Ella's feelings."
"We shouldn't fall into Joshua's trap. If you think what Mason and I did has completely disgraced the Lewis family, I can just die."
Knowing that Heath and Rhea still had some feelings for her, Scarlett immediately kowtowed to them while kneeling.
She looked as pitiful as could be.
Watching from the side, Rhea thought about how Joshua first married Ella, then later made Ella leave with nothing.
That kind of man really was no good.
She reminded Heath, "Forget it. Since it's already happened, scolding them more won't change the facts."
Ella knew it was her turn to step in.
She walked forward and took the whip from Heath's hand, then persuaded him, "Dad, Mom's right. Since it's already happened, let them be. Mason likes Scarlett, and they're not blood-related, so why not let them be together."
These two people better stay together forever.
Never separate for the rest of their lives and harm others.
Only by keeping them together would she have a chance to inherit everything from the Lewis family.
Heath still listened to Ella's words. Pointing at Mason, who was covered in wounds, he said, "Listen to me. I won't interfere with you and Scarlett anymore, but you have to transfer all your shares and assets to Ella's name. Do you hear me?"
Since Ella had asked for it, they couldn't refuse to give it.
This was what they owed Ella.
Even though Ella said she was joking, as parents, they should treat their children equally.
Mason and Scarlett had lived comfortably by their side for over twenty years.
Ella had come back after narrowly escaping death, so they naturally had to satisfy all her needs.
Seeing that his father had agreed to let him be with Scarlett, Mason endured the pain on his body and nodded in agreement, "Okay, I'll give all my assets to Ella."
Hearing this, Scarlett opened her mouth to object, but felt she had no right to.
If she spoke up, wouldn't the Lewis family know about her ambitions?
But if Mason's assets all went to Ella, how would she and Mason live in the future?
Looking up at Ella, seeing her staring at her with a smug expression, Scarlett hated it in her heart but didn't dare say a word.
Ella stepped forward to help Mason up, pretending to care, "Mason, does it hurt? I'll get you some medicine. You take Scarlett back to your room first."
Mason thanked her, feeling that since Ella didn't blame him for what he'd done before, he should give everything to Ella.
As for their future life, he believed Scarlett would start over with him from scratch.
"You disgraceful thing, stay in your room and reflect on your actions for the next few days. Don't go out and disgust people."
Really finding Mason and Scarlett's behavior shameful, Heath pulled Rhea along and stormed out.
After only Mason and Scarlett were left in the study, Scarlett couldn't help but reveal her true nature, "You're giving all your assets to Ella—how are we supposed to live in the future?"
She didn't want to suffer hardship with Mason outside.
After living a privileged life for over twenty years, she never wanted to return to the hard days of searching for food in garbage dumps.
Mason had been beaten badly, his white shirt stained with blood.
He turned to Scarlett and gripped her hand affectionately, "Even though I'm giving my assets to Ella, I can still work at the Lewis Group. Just the CEO position alone has an annual salary of over a million dollars. Are you still worried I won't be able to support you in the future?"
