Chapter 111
Scarlett never expected that Rhea, who had always been strict and harsh with her, would be so nice to Ella now, even though she knew Ella was shameless and full of lies.
She'd rather have Ella stay with her than her own adopted daughter.
Scarlett hesitated, about to fake some more concern, when Rhea urged directly, "Mason, take Scarlett back. I'm fine here, you don't need to watch over me all day."
Mason nodded, signaling Scarlett to leave.
Only after leaving the hospital building did Scarlett dare to lose her temper.
"You saw it, right? Ella's up to no good. First she tried to harm me, now she's harming Mom, but Mom actually let her stay alone."
She grabbed Mason's hand, "Mason, you can't wait any longer. If Mom dies at her hands someday, you'll regret it too late."
Mason also didn't expect that the usually serious Rhea would be so friendly to Ella.
His face darkened as he told Scarlett, "I need to plan this carefully, make sure I can walk away clean before making a move, otherwise I'll harm myself."
He didn't want to kill Ella only to pay with his own life.
That wouldn't be worth it.
Scarlett deliberately threw a tantrum, "I think you're just scared. Just send a few people to handle it, why do you need to do it yourself?"
She shook off his hand and walked ahead.
Mason followed, patiently explaining, "If I get others to do it, it's easy to trace back to who ordered it. Don't worry, I'll make Ella disappear soon."
"Come find me after you make her disappear!"
Scarlett still looked angry, storming ahead.
Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Rhea watched Ella carefully massaging her legs by the bedside, wondering why everyone said she was bad.
Having a child out of wedlock, making Aiden die of anger.
But she felt Ella was as pitiful as her own lost daughter.
Looking at Ella, she thought of their daughter who had been missing for twenty years, and her heart ached.
Rhea covered her face and wiped her tears, telling Ella, "It's not easy for you either. You just lost one child and still have to take care of another. Why don't you go back? I'm fine here."
Ella pulled out a tissue and handed it to Rhea.
She clearly felt close to her and wanted to ask about her daughter.
But afraid she was overthinking it, worried that Rhea would think she was trying to climb above her station, Ella had to put aside her questions and nodded, "Okay, I'll head back. If you need anything, contact me anytime."
Just as she was about to turn and leave, she ran right into Ava, who had come to visit Rhea.
And behind Ava was Joshua.
Seeing the mother and son, Ella instinctively tried to avoid them and walk around, but Ava blocked her.
"Don't tell me you're the one who hit Rhea with your car?"
Ella didn't deny it, "Yes, I hit her."
Ava got angry immediately, looking at Rhea sitting on the bed, "She definitely did it on purpose. She knows Scarlett is marrying Joshua, so she's upset and wants revenge on you. You're just going to let her walk away?"
This shameless woman had a child with someone else and dared to marry Joshua while hiding it from them.
And made Aiden die of anger.
Joshua was kind enough not to hold it against her, but she wouldn't let her off so easily.
"Mom, don't make accusations without evidence."
Joshua coldly cut off Ava's words, but his gaze at Ella still held some tenderness.
He actually wanted to know if Ella would care that he was marrying Scarlett.
"How is this making accusations? In broad daylight, she could have hit anyone with her car, why did it have to be Rhea?"
Ava ignored Joshua and stepped forward to tell Rhea, "This Ella is rotten to the core. She's just upset that Scarlett is marrying Joshua, so she's deliberately causing trouble at this critical moment. You can't let her off easy."
But Rhea didn't mind, looking at Ella and saying, "You go ahead back, don't overthink it."
Ella nodded, not wanting to stay a moment longer looking at a certain someone, and quickly walked around them.
Joshua hadn't wanted to get involved with Ella again.
But seeing her leave looking wronged, he couldn't help feeling sorry for her, and finally chased after her without hesitation.
"Joshua."
Ava called out once, somewhat frustrated with him.
But thinking that the Lewis family was marrying up to her Thomas family, she didn't need to care about what Joshua did or whether it displeased Rhea.
She sat down primly, her face stern, "Rhea and I are about to become in-laws. I really can't stand this Ella. Why don't you take this chance to teach her a good lesson for me?"
Rhea smiled and sighed, "Ava, why bother with a younger person? She's not having it easy either. Lost one child, left with nothing after the divorce, and still has to raise another child. Let her go!"
Joshua hurried forward and raised his hand to stop Ella, "How did you hit Rhea with your car? Did they give you a hard time? Do you need money? I..."
"No need."
Knowing that Joshua was determined to marry Scarlett, Ella coldly cut him off, not even willing to look at him.
"Save your money for marrying someone else. You don't need to worry about my business."
She pushed his hand away and walked quickly.
Joshua didn't follow.
Ella's attitude seemed like she didn't care at all that he was really marrying Scarlett.
How could she care?
She had someone else in her heart, had a child, and the three of them were probably living happily together.
And he shouldn't be so presumptuous anymore.
Joshua withdrew his gaze and left with some bitterness in his heart.
When Ella got in her car, she was angry inside.
Angry that Joshua insisted on marrying Scarlett.
Yet she couldn't find any evidence that Scarlett had caused Aiden's death.
Did she have to watch helplessly as Scarlett married into the Thomas family?
Ella returned to Zachary's place, distracted.
Perhaps understanding what was on her mind, Zachary came to sit beside her and asked with concern, "Are you facing some difficulty? You've seemed troubled these past few days."
Ella said worriedly, "Joshua is going to marry Scarlett, and I still haven't found evidence that Scarlett killed someone."
The main problem was that now Joshua was keeping his distance from her for Scarlett's sake.
He didn't want to be with her at Tranquil Villa.
She had no other way to provoke Scarlett into showing her true colors.
Perhaps the only hope could only rest on that DNA test report.
"My people haven't found any clues either."
Zachary consoled her, "Don't worry. If it really was that woman, there will be a slip-up eventually."
Ella felt she could only wait.
These days, seeing Dorian unhappy, she didn't go out and stayed with Dorian the whole time.
Until a week later, when the test results came out.
She left Dorian with Zachary at home and drove to the testing center herself to get the report.
Before reaching the testing center, she received a call from Mason.
He said, "My mom needs your help with something. Where are you now? I'll come pick you up."
Ella quickly refused, "I still have something to do. Can I come over after I'm done? It'll be quick."
She just needed to pick up a test report.
Those were two reports. Once she got them, she'd know whether she had any blood relation to the Lewis family, and whether Dorian had any blood relation to Joshua.
But Mason didn't give her time and came directly, "I'll come get you now. Send me your location."
